There are thousands of different kinds of professions out there, and each one of them has something unique and special about it. Problem is, working in a certain field every day for who-knows-how-many years can sometimes make you forget about that kind of things.
Recently, a Twitter user named MasalaBai asked other users of the platform to share one special thing about their occupation that feels the most empowering to them. "Beautiful replies that remind you why you chose the profession," she added. MasalaBai started by sharing a one-of-a-kind thing about her own profession. "Journalism: Amplifying the voices that otherwise would not reach the powerful," she wrote.
Bored Panda invites to take a look at some of the most interesting things Twitter users have shared while answering this question.

Some of the most bigoted and defeatist things I have ever heard came from "disability advocates". Oh, you have two bad legs, so you CAN'T do X. The bigotry of low expectations is real. #ConstantlyExceeding #NeverAVictim #JustBadLuck Doctors and advocates and many people in the general populace see the DISABILITY first, not the individual, then assign low expectations based on the handicap. Never define someone by their disability. They are a PERSON who happens to have a disability.... I work full time plus. I help others. I work side jobs. I just happen to have a disability.
But it would be nice if there was a conversion table from "love, courage, respect and gratitude" to money. Nurses and most medical staff are underpaid, overworked and underappreciated.
Same, people don't understand my addiction to fiction. It is my way of living an alternate story.
This is much more an issue with the editor than the journalist, since they are the ones who decide what is published.
If only journalists lived by that idea. Today it seems like their job is to convince people to follow their opinions and what they media’s opinion is. No one wants to report the news anymore and the times I have called the media to report things what I told them didn’t get reported, so apparently the people without voices are still nobody to them unless they have an exclusive about a murder or political related. The news has turned into garbage
Journalist here. We're not all self-righteous assholes. Lots of us care about our work on behalf of the community.

I really lolled at the first statement : Amplifying the voices that otherwise wouldn't reach the powerful.." People are protesting over 60 years against racial inequality and racism. There's been a lot of press coverage and what did the powerful do the solve the problem? There could be a million people standing in front of the White House screaming for action and the powerful inside would plug their ears.
Remote worker for an overseas company - I bring foreign currency into my country, which goes to taxes to help with our covid response as well as supporting local businesses and nonprofits.
So many journalists empowered by their work. To tell the truth about a variety of situations. Then they work for companies who completely edit their work and keep those truths from the public. Most of those journalists cave in to the almighty dollar because, why fight it. Empowerment.
