When living in a foreign country, you always discover new things that raise your eyebrows, make you laugh, or give you a certain emotion.
Being Belgian living in Taiwan, I discovered many new things that I found very special. So I started to make a list not to forget them.
The list was a perfect base for a 100-day drawing challenge. You can discover the result on my Instagram page or my website.

Same in Japan! Some of the pedestrian crossings in Japan also had songs, much nicer than the harsh "BEEP BEEP BEEP" back in the UK...
In Indore, India in the morning all the trash trucks play wake-up music so people wake up early AND throw out their trash, because of that Indore is one of the cleanest cities in India.
Because in Chinese, the number ‘4’ is pronounced ‘sì’ and that’s very close in pronunciation the world ‘sǐ' which means ‘die’ so us Taiwanese people are superstitious of the number 4
Interesting! Then how does it work with B4? Does that mean something else when spoken out aloud?
Load More Replies...It's always a funny thing to see how different people react on temperature. My fiance is Venezuelan, he already considers 25° celsius as freezing, I'm Swiss and I start melting at 28° celsius.
uh... I'm American. What's 20 degrees Celcius in Fahrenheit?
Load More Replies...Then I wouldn’t fit in, I love plants but everyone thinks I hate them because I can never keep them alive. 😭
Let me pack my bags and head over to Taiwan that is all i need to hear!
As an Asian who grew up in Asia, let me tell you that this has nothing to do with an "obsession pale skin and most transparent skin". It gets VERY hot out there and this is to prevent you from getting heat strokes, dehydration and bad burning sunburns which can give Asian skin hyperpigmentation, a lot of people don't spray themselves with cans of sunscreen. Bamboo Umbrellas and bamboo conical hats have long been apart of Asian culture solely for protective functional reasons.
Load More Replies...I get it. this makes sense. why don't we have these in amarica? its easier to carry it this way sometimes.
Ooh my sister would love to go their tofu is one of her favorite foods!
Have you climbed any of them? The sights from the top are beautiful, though you have to watch out for poisonous snakes and hornets!
Don't try to climb any of them. Tempetures and weather change in hours of these high mountains where people dying in their travel.
Taiwanese breakfast though... fresh soy milk... egg wraps... oh my goodness, SO DELICIOUS.
Scientific reason: More and more people in asia require glasses as extended looking at books and/or screens when being young mess with the calibration of the eyeball. Looking often at objects far away and sunlight prevent that. It's also genetically more likley to be near sighted for east asians
I wonder if Taiwanese people have some kind of genetic disorder that links back to their ancestors?
Nope it's not. How are they for recycling and are there thrift stores?
I would actually love to do that and it’s probably pretty common in a lot of countries
I believe this is spot on, but I'd like to remind everyone that Taiwan also has non nature based attractions, such as, for example, the 101 building in Taipei and other stuff. Haven't been there myself, but heard a lot from Taiwanese colleagues back in university and now at work.
Are you sure they aren't just use to being patient? Queuing is proper and respectful of those around you, but I wouldn't call it fun.
I think the author doesn't actually think that, it's the observation that everyone's on their phones while waiting in line. I could be wrong, but that's how I see it.
Load More Replies...OO I remember my first time having one of these. it was in the form or a sweet dumpling.
Honestly, these are really fun to unwrap... when I actually want to use my brain.
I'd say it's just by nature. If you go to an Asian household there is no way you are walking out without being properly fed and watered, packed food to go and if the household does gardening you'd also have a basket full of produce to tote back home. :'D
Load More Replies...Is that because most of their toilets are bidets in which case you only need a square or two to dry off afterwards?
I guess the government figured people weren't following the traffic laws because they couldn't see the lights
I believe these tracks are indeed places within parks and by the rivers, because they're probably next to a bicycle lane.
Load More Replies...Are they not textured/grooved to help with grip or are they perfectly smooth?
A waterbottle :). Cause it is so crazy hot here. Can't go out without one.
Load More Replies...Don't forget the angry old men carrying around the fluffiest puppies and all the fruit flavoured milk. I love that stuff.
Thank you for the ideas! The fruit flavoured milk is indeed a big thing. Luckily I didn't encounter too many angry old men :D
Load More Replies...I can say these are so true! And I can think of no better way to use my first comment on BP!
