With the year we’re having, it’s safe to say that a lot of us are expecting 2021 to be far better. However, even if some of us are losing faith in humanity, things aren’t as grim in 2020 as we think. People from all over the world are sharing the times that the results they got exceeded expectations and posting them on the ‘Expectation Vs. Reality’ subreddit.

Bored Panda reached out to Reddit user Zarishka, whose photos of the Doctor Who cupcakes she ordered went viral on the subreddit. According to the redditor, the cupcakes were baked by Alena who lives in Nur-Sultan, in Kazakhstan. “She bakes cupcakes, cakes and cake pops! And can decorate them in any theme the customer wants. According to redditor Zarishka, the Doctor Who cupcakes that exceeded their expectations were really good. “Chocolate cupcakes with salt caramel filling and cheese cream on top. Sweet, salty, and creamy at the same time!” That sounds like heaven to us!
“The cupcakes were for my best friend’s bachelorette party. Well, just out of lockdown style bachelorette party, a picnic for three people counting the bride in a local park. She wanted the whole wedding to be in the Doctor Who style, however, because of the pandemic all the wedding plans fell through, and we didn’t even think we’d be able to do the bachelorette party,” Zarishka said.

Thank goodness you found them! I think too many promising interests in astronomy are ruined by terrible "toy" telescopes. Especially when fairly decent (and upgradable) entry-level scopes are only $50.

Back in the 80s, I bought a friend's son a Kenner "video cam" that recorded B/W images onto a cassette tape. Fast forward to 2002 and one of his videos was in heavy rotation on MTV... and the Kenner Cam was in hot demand by fledgling film makers.
“But then the situation seemed to become more stable in our city, and the lockdown was lifted, so we decided to have a small party for the three of us, and I immediately ordered the cupcakes with very short notice. The baker didn’t even know about the series, so I didn’t expect to get these amazing cupcakes at all. My friend was super happy with them! I love Doctor Who, however, I can’t say that I’m as big of a fan as she is,” the redditor told Bored Panda.
She added that she doesn’t think that the photos do the cupcakes justice. “They also had edible glitter on them, star-shaped candy, and silvery candy of various sizes. Very pretty!”

I Pointed My Camera Straight Up And Left The Shutter Running For An Hour To See What Would Happen. Didn't Expect A Flowing River Of Stars
This was taken at Ice House reservoir in Pollock Pines, CA last night. I head out to dark skies on occasion to do astrophotography, but last night I forgot a tracker to compensate for the earth's motion, so I took some experimental shots without it. Turned out much better than I expected. Star trail shots are challenging to compose, so I got pretty lucky with the way they seemed to flow through the trees.

The ‘Expectation Vs. Reality’ community on Reddit has 710k members and they’ve got pretty much everything to do with (yup, you guessed it) expectations: from roaring successes to facepalm-worthy fails.
One thing that’s pretty much consistent about people is just how bad most of us are at predicting how we will feel in different situations. Generally, we tend to expect too much and then get disappointed when reality slaps us in the face like an angry otter with a wet fish.
Even though we yearn for success and want to avoid failure, research has shown us that we greatly overestimate how much happier we’ll be when rich, famous, in the perfect relationships, and working our dream jobs.

Sure, we get a (massive) boost when we win the lottery, get married, or get that promotion we’ve been angling for these past few years. But. But! That joy doesn’t last long. Soon enough, we’re back at our ‘standard’ happiness levels, wondering what goals we should pursue next. We’re very adaptable and that’s both a blessing and a curse.
Instead of focusing on how ‘perfect’ life will be if only X, Y, and Z happened, you should appreciate the things around you. Don’t take things for granted. Start a gratitude journal. Let the people in your life know what they mean to you. Sappy? Sure.
But gratitude will make you much happier. And this happiness is within your reach. So hope for the best, prepare for the worst, don’t expect much, but bask in the glow when the results accidentally exceed your expectations.

Years ago on the show Miami Ink, there was a client who wanted a tattoo to commemorate motherhood & her small children. The artist asked her some questions about her young family. At some point she mentioned that she always checks her rearview mirror when she's driving, to make sure her kids are OK. The artist came up with the following design, a rearview mirror w/ the mother's eyes, and hanging dice, the dots representing each child's age. I would have never thought it but the tattoo was gorgeous and the mother loved it.

One of my firm's executive assistants has one of these at her desk... right next to her retirement countdown timer. 423 days... 18 hours... and a bunch of minutes and seconds that become immaterial as I can't keep up with them in a post! :::UPDATE::: She decided to take advantage of some long overdue vacay time, then retired to make artistic cement garden planters. I made a special trip in to the office on my day off to say goodbye to her the day before Halloween. 2020.

Worked at a place called New York Pizzaeria in Houston. Pretty good food and I still eat there. They make a 3 foot (1 meter) diameter pizza for $40. When I worked there I had a station wagon and was the only driver with a big enough car that could deliver it.

That is seriously impressive for a first attempt. Most people can't even pipe a more basic shell pattern when they first learn to decorate a cake.

This is what people should look for- a cake that looks impressive but doesn't require a ton of technical skills. The flowers and figures look purchased, so they just had to put the frosting on, line the cake with the pirouettes and add the crumb layer, add the green frosting- donezo. So many people give up on trying because they simply try things that are too hard for them. This is a great choice in cake style and great execution.

Very good! The only real difference is the "motion" of the waterfall. :) Something I learned with art, try to keep the strokes going in one direction! In this case, vertical (downward) to make it look like falling water.

'Winner winner chicken dinner!' is literally a taunt from a video game. Idk which one exactly, but could be CoD or Player Unknown Battleground. Still questionable taste in games for an 8 and 13 y.o kid since most FPS games of the sort are rated M, but ffs chill out with the dumbass 'future shooter' comments.

It sounds a bit odd, but this is a damn tasty spread. Cream cheese is super versatile, so mixing it with a little sugar and pineapple is perfect, and pecans add a nice look and texture.

The phone I'm typing on right now has been dropped countless times, flung off the roof of my car at 60 mph and slammed on the edge of a coffee table by a frustrated 5 year old. It looks a little beaten up at this point (understandably) but it works perfectly. It's a, now obsolete, galaxy s7 bought off e bay. I've had it for years but refuse to replace it because how could there be a phone in existence more badass than this?

This is not a win. I’d be p*ssed! Had an iPhone once for about two years, perfect condition, not a single scratch. The case was rock solid. Was sending it off to one of those phone recycling sites where you get £40/£50 for it. Had to take the case off the phone. The case was so frigging strong that it SHATTERED the back of the phone when it came off :(

Yes, if the phone is capable of wireless charging the back has to be glass instead of metal. Wireless charging is magnet magic and the metal would interfere.

Nooooo, it's really not. :-p No tomatoes involved and the dough is bread dough. It used to be the "test bread" to see if the oven was hot enough for the loafs.

IME, they are hard boiled for safety reasons, and not overcooked. They are usually the same type of eggs served in the supermarket's deli and salad sections. I believe that they are intended to be eaten cold.
