50 Times People Spotted Things In Very Unusual Colors And Just Had To Document It For Everyone To See
The chance your backyard is being savaged by a mole is quite a high one. Unless we’re talking an albino mole, this little white dude with a congenital lack of melanin, which occurs 1:100,000. But there’s something inherently beautiful about the odd ones out in this world, where everything seems identical to one another.
And this time, we have prepared a real treat for anyone who loves rare sights, unusual color combinations, and anything out of the ordinary. Thanks to the subreddit “Real Life Shinies” created on the 16th of June, 2016, 247k members have gathered an incredible collection of “shinies but in the real world!”
From wild animals and pets to street signs and architecture, these shinies will change your perspective of the color of things we know very well, or rather, we think we know. Let’s make our heads spin a little, and then a little more.

This Golden Mouse
To find out more about the community of “Real Life Shinies,” Bored Panda reached out to the moderator u/papa_goobs, who said that the subreddit was first created by the user u/IAlwaysLieAMA who has since quit social media. “He originally posted a comment and someone had done the whole "/r/fakesubhere" and ended up creating the subreddit and it just took off from that post.”
Today, the subreddit has around 1 to 3 posts daily, but the moderator assured us that they can receive up to 10 submissions per day if the subreddit gets featured anywhere.
When asked what the title refers to, u/papa_goobs explained that “Real Life Shinies refers to the Pokémon universe, in which you can obtain a specially colored version of a Pokémon by random chance. This translates into objects that aren't the natural color they are in a more mainstream light.”
The moderator’s favorite posts are the “oddball ones, like this clear pie, or most recently, this little guy with his extra toes.”
A Really Shiny Beautiful Creature
These horses are not all this brilliant. But they are all fabulous horses. They are the "true" color for a palomino, which three shades darker or three shades lighter than a new gold coin. This is exactly the color of a new gold coin and it is one of the most beautiful horses I have ever seen.
Yes and if I am not wrong the most expensive one in the world

They probably would cost a ton for them to place one order and the shrink (what they throw away) would be enormous because the wholesale and retail would be so high that very few people would end up buying them and they’d end up as shrink. Wouldn’t be worth it for most stores to place the order (I used to work in a grocery store).

Animals like this should be put into some kind of national parks or reserves, somewhere hunters can't kill them. Because they will. They will want a trophy from such a rare animal 😥

White Dog With A Black Head
(Absolutely no racism intended) Why are there so many black things in this post?
Melanism (Genetic mutation that causes cells to contain extra melanin (Pigment)) is one of the more common 'rare' genetic mutations. Since an animal is more likely to survive to adulthood and reproduce, being all black than all white (being white makes them more visible to predators) they pass on their mutation more often than those with albinism.

Alolan Fox
You're cooler in some ways, he can't type worth a darn.
Load More Replies...There are actually a whole breed of foxes like this! This little guy is, to my knowledge, a Canadian Marble Fox! Marbles usually have, hence the name, marbled fur, usually in any range of whites, blacks, browns, and sometimes oranges. Even their noses can me marbled! Their tails are usually a bit smaller than a red fox, as well as their full-body height. As well as living in Canada, they also live in Alaska.
Strawberry Finch
Half Red Half White Flower
Very cool! Cause is a random mutation during flower development that caused a main component for producing the red pigment to be either trash and completely absent. All cells descending from the original mutated cell inherited the defect and are therefore unable to create the pigment. Mutations happening in fully developed organisms are pretty common - after all, growth and tissue renewal require cell division, and for each cell division the complete genome has to be copied. Despite the extremely low error rate overall, the sheer number of cell divisions means that per organisms, mutations are pretty much bound to happen. That's what cancer is about... Also the cause of moles. Also, it's the reason why skin and colon cancer are the most common, those tissues renew like crazy! Older cells are pushed to the outermost layer, where friction eventually removes them. The skin is completely renewed about every 4 weeks. Lecture end. Sorry about the weird berth from roses to skin cancer...
This is exactly why I love Bored Panda. There's always someone in the comments who can explain further.

About 30% of Dalmations are deaf so be careful walking up to one or trying to pet one that doesn't know you. They are not usually egressive, but can be startled or scared by those who may not be aware.
They are definitely a handful. I rescued an abused dalmation years ago. He was very big and muscular with a large square head. He was strong. It was hard to control him. His abuse made him psychologically off. I think he had PTSD. I gave him as wonderful a life as I could until he developed throat cancer but if I had ever had children I don’t think I could have kept him.

This lobster looks like it just molted. I.e. - cracked its shell to start growing a new one. It is possible that right before it crawled into the trap, it molted. It was attracted to the bait because it really needs to eat to get that shell growing fast so it is not vulnerable. It is very soft at this time.

Not A Shiny Visibly, We Discovered A Dilute Tortie Called Delilah Is Male Sexed Today! Tortie And Calico Males Are Extremely Rare!
In cats, the gene for the reddish fur color is located on the X chromosome, and it can mask (i.e. "overpower") other fur colors. Since males have only one X chromosome, they either have (= fur completely red) or don't have (no red at all) the red gene. Female cats have two X chromosomes, and in each cell one of them is completely inactive. Neighboring cells tend to inactivate the same X chromosome, but overall, which of them is inactivated is pretty random - 50/50 chance, basically. So in cats with red patches, you can basically "see" in which skin regions the same X chromosome is active. If a male has red patches, it means that the male has an extra X chromosome - a genetic defect called the Klinefelter syndrome, commonly associated with infertility.

Peppered moths!! Sadly, the original white-with-black-spots variety are becoming rarer and rarer since the Industrial Revolution, since the moths blended in nicely with the bark of the Birch trees. Unfortunately, once the factories came, they produced tons of soot and debris and pollution covered and stained the trees black, so the variety of peppered moths that had darker wings and bodies are becoming more and more common.

In Hawaii, we have blue and green traffic signs that are typically red. This isn’t all cases, but different communities can have different colored signs. In my town, the official, government stop signs are red but read “WHOA”.” Given your comments on sun bleached, I’m wondering if the colors were chosen so they wouldn’t fade as much as red. Because they’re definitely installed in other colors. BTW, I believe this particular green sign is from a beach park in Puna, on the Big I.

kill rate than lighter bears, because light bear's prey can see them easier because they stand out a hella lot. More melanistic bears are harder to spot, especially since most of their prey has better contrast sight, so darker bears can hide and sneak around better without being seen. Lighter bears just tend to scavenge off of carcasses of animals leftover by wolves, cougars, other bears, or any other big game-hunting predators when they feel the need to shake up their diet a little. "Shiny" is a Pokemon term that refers to rare Pokemon that are a different colour to normal ones.
