Someone Points Out That Dads Watch TV In A Very Specific Way, And It’s Hilarious (25 Pics)
There are these certain things that, it seems, pretty much all dads start doing somewhere along the line after becoming a father. And no one has yet figured out why. We've got taking grilling very seriously, not wanting a dog and then having the best relationship with it, shaking a handful of peanuts before popping them in their mouth, sneezing extremely loudly—the list goes on and on and on.
One of the most dad-like things people on the internet have been pointing out for quite a while now is watching TV standing up. Why do they do that? Is there something about it we don't know? Are we missing out? The mystery remains unsolved...
With that being said, Bored Panda invites you to look through some of the best meme-worthy photos capturing dads casually watching TV. As always, don't forget to leave a comment and vote for your favorite ones!

He must stand a lot, judging by how often they play the national anthem over there
Wow another baseless comment from someone not from America, we play it just as much as any other country, once before sports games. You will rarely hear it not at a sports game.
Load More Replies...I have a lot of respect for your dad. Sad to say, but nowadays it takes a lot of courage to show that you love your country. You are lucky to have him as your father.
In response to Mewton's Third Paw's valid but "hidden" comment asking why it takes courage to show love of country, a person can be held up to public ridicule scorn, contempt and humiliation. Further, it might trigger an Antifa or BLM member to physically assault the patriot. It may sound like no big deal but taking such a chance is a big deal. It’s the opposite of the safe position of “taking A knee” which is trending now.
Meanwhile, the news: blah blah blah trump blah blah covid blah blah blah blah something not remotely newsworthy blah blah blah blah (repeat forever)
Load More Replies...but when others do that it's "why u not sitting down. u'll ruin ur eyes!!"
I'm not a dad but I do this. For me it's a feeling like I should be doing something else though I'm not sure what it is.
Is my dad the only one who just sits down? I on the other hand will stand in front of the tv tho
THINKING ABOUT HOW SIMPLE LIFE USED TO BE........it'll stop you in your tracks.....
My dad stands just like this but his feet are further apart, and I do the same thing lol
I only liked it when Ward was tough on the Beaver.
Load More Replies...This is me (and not at all my husband, who is a dad). OMG, I'm a dad.
i beg your frickin pardon but this isn't REAL football
Load More Replies...Aha! I think you have just discovered the reason behind this strange behaviour!
Yes! They need an award for cracking this code.
Load More Replies...Probably south asian or middle eastern
Load More Replies...Always with the hands behind his back. Or maybe not always. Sometimes the arms crossed over the belly.
He is wearing a normal t-shirt on top, and a "lungi" at the bottom. See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-shirt and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lungi
Load More Replies...Are those cigarette butts laying on the floor by the garbage inside? By the broom? lol...it might be a stick or something but it looks like butts. lol
About a year after I got married, hubby announced he wanted to give up smoking. So I helped. I banned smoking in the house and stopped kissing him until he gave up. (Mwahahaha!) It was especially hard on him because there was nowhere outside that he could shelter from rain or the cold. He gave up within months.
He came in for just a second and stopped for a couple more seconds and will be leaving in a few seconds.....or he forgot he had the hoodie on while in the house
Dad's just taking a mental 5 minute break....so necessary for adult survival...
You are a little boy who needs to try and ruin whatever they see.
Load More Replies...I mean, who doesn’t? Screw the Buccaneers, let’s go Chiefs!

It is like a cabin, but with more modernistic angles/shape.
Load More Replies...My guess is this is the "I want to watch this movie but I have things to do so I should not sit down" stance
At least now he can't be told off for "just sitting there watching TV all day long"!
If you stand. it means you have a way to show you are not really a tv fanatic as you really are.
No, this is what an electronics department looks like. And trust me, I work in one, it's definitely NOT heaven.
Load More Replies...Hey! It's a tough decision to choose one! Either the TV or the wife yelling at home!
mine doesn't even watch sports. he watches youtube and disenchantment and futurama and arrested development
mine doesnt even watch tv. because we don't have one lol
If he doesn't yell at the TV, is he really a dad or is he just a guy with some children?
He's a plump little dumpling, isn't he?Poor puppy.
Load More Replies...He is memorising the whole thing and pre-planning his day's schedule around the things he wants to watch.
What is wrong with the dog? What did i miss? He is one of those dogs that look like that. He is suppose to be that size. He looks happy to me. Not sure why its a 'poor dog'. Lucky dog seems to have a nice and warm home by what i can see.
Smart Dad for having the tissue box close by. I too shed a lot of tears over this TV coverage.
And this is how my grandfather stands, but replace the paper with a cookie or with coffee.
Looks like he's in the middle of cleaning and has paused to watch the TV.
YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Load More Replies...I know this one. He needs new glasses - or the couch closer to the tv. That writing is way too small to read from the couch.
some people do, though in my experience it isn't very common. my grandparents used to have a small tv in their kitchen
Load More Replies...Why?! It's my damn house. I go to work every day to support you, your mother, those damned brothers and sisters of yours, that cat that gets more salmon than I ever get, and I paid for that food you're eating while sitting on my couch. I didn't see you up this morning when I left for work, and you sure as hell didn't pack my lunch or ask me how my day went. So yeah, I'm standing right here where I want.
That tv is so high, there's really no other way to watch it other than standing.
my dad also stands up whale watching tv my mom tells him to sit down tho and he finally does
That was my favorite band a few years back. I'm thinking of listening to them again sometime soon.
Awww,,,,,, give the guy a break. He's happy for now. Leave him alone.
TYJO WE LOVE YOU THE LAST CONCERT OF THEIRS I WENT TO WAS AMAZING AND TYLER WAS SO NICE AFTER THE SHOW WHEN I HAD A PANIC ATTACK BEFORE I MET HIM. HE WALKED ME THROUGH THE WHOLE THJNG AND I WAS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME
Do you not have security cams in your house?
Load More Replies...They probley have them for reasons like I have 2 at my house in front of the door so we can we see whos at the door and in front of the garage so we can see if anyone pulled up to the driveway
we do it for attention.............. LOOK AT US NOW AND BATHE IN OUR GLORY
Load More Replies...Actually, he's learned to sleep while standing. This makes you think he's still alert.
As a dad, I can tell y'all it's just so we can work out our gluteus.
Yea, my dad would do that, but part of it was he would have this thing about "relaxing" or "watching the game" that would make him feel like he was being lazy
It's because when dads sit to watch tv, they fall asleep and snore, whilst claiming to be awake and resting their eyes/watching tv
In a lot of these rooms, the TV is way too high on the wall, so sitting and watching is actually straining the neck. It is eye-level when standing and much more comfortable.
When my sis or me are watching a show, and my dad also likes the show, he watches, but he watches in the doorway. STANDING UP. lol
Dad here. Not all if us are like this especially us with flat feet. If I stand in one spot for more than 5 minutes my feet will really hurt. I much rather sit in my couch cross legged with my dog on my lap.
