A sense of entitlement is a personality characteristic that's not exclusive to spoiled kids. The belief that you deserve special treatment or recognition for something you haven't earned can be quite universal.

And the subreddit which we will call 'Entitled Batch' can prove it — this online community is dedicated to shaming people who think they can always get their own way and are better than everyone else.

The moderators, however, point out in its 'About' section that the sub "in no way intends to spread hate or abuse or to offend any party, it was created for story sharing and entertainment."

Since its inception in December 2018, it has amassed quite the collection. Here are some of the most popular posts that have appeared on the sub since our last publication on it.

vincethewillnill Report

If a person isn't behaving as badly as these folks and you aren't sure whether they might have a sense of entitlement, experts suggest going through the following characteristics and seeing if they apply:

  • People with a sense of entitlement expect to get preferential treatment and special favors in life, without regard for why they should be treated specially. They assume "the world owes me." For instance, they might feel that the policies of an organization should not apply to them because they should be treated with special favors.
  • Regardless of what they have, they strongly believe that they deserve more. They expect to elevate their lifestyle above that of others without putting in the effort needed to do so.

  • When they reach a certain level of success, they feel that everyone should bend over backward to help them. If someone has a problem with them or does not agree with what they are doing, they will try to make the other party feel as if they are wrong and that it is a horrible thing to disagree with them.
  • Their personal needs come before everyone else's needs. They believe that it is your job to ensure they have everything they need, even if this means that you have to sacrifice taking care of yourself.

Cats are independent and dependent, but they don't generally insist on 70% of one's income. Of course, all bets are off if someone is paid in mice.

  • They're very dramatic when something does not go their way. In these cases, they might try to make themselves look better by bringing you down.
  • They are not grateful for what they have in their life. A person with a sense of entitlement may not say thank you or show other signs of appreciation for what they have. This is because they believe it is their right to have everything, so they don't value anything.

masteromatic Report

  • A sense of entitlement tends to be spread across their entire life. Someone who acts this way about one thing is likely to act the same way in other situations as well. They may be greedy or will take friends for granted instead of being appreciative.
  • They act like victims and blame other people or outside forces for their problems. Again, someone with this attitude believes the world owes them and that other people are responsible for making their lives better.
  • But if you read through the list and remain unsure, look them up on the subreddit 'Entitled Batch'. If they're not here, maybe they aren't that bad, eh?

So....willing to pay for the dog but not the care of said dog? If you have full time employment then consider budgeting for a dog walker, or doggy day care?

That's a good start, but even then grandma can still refuse to have a dog in her house, which would be perfectly reasonable.

Owning a dog when working 8-9 hours a day (plus travel time) is not great for the dog. Unless you're going to prioritize the dog outside of work, you shouldn't get a dog, full stop. A dog needs company, walks, mental stimulation. I love dogs, I really want a dog, but for 3 months a year I work 10 hour days. In addition to long days now and then. I would never do that to a dog. They give you everything. You should give them what they need.

almost every person I know and have a dog works for 8-9 hours plus travel time. 8 hours work is a basic hourtime in my country. Some of them works for 12 hours (but have those dogs on gardens though)... Dogs are clever and they understand you need to go somewhere, they will just andjust their daytime to it, and most of the time they would sleep (average time of sleep for dog is 11 hours)... I have a cat, she is more independent than a dog, and she just sleep the whole time. I set a wecam and she wake up and walk to the front doors like 10 minutes before I will arived, and sometimes she will not even come before I will open up those doors.

Well, clearly, you must put grandma in a home and force her to sign over her house to you. There's altogether too much of this whiny 'it's my house' thing going on. You want a dog and that's what counts.

Honestly I would have been on board with this one until I read what the grandma "had to do" for the person's dog. It doesn't seems like OP and their bf are living with the grandma out of need because they pay rent and renovate the house so I believe it's more a question of her having company and such...
