40 ‘Cool Guides’ People Shared On This Group That Contain Information They Don’t Teach At School (New Pics)
Whether we're talking about politics or the animal kingdom, learning something new can require a fair amount of time and effort. Luckily, we don't always have to read lengthy scientific papers. Some people do it for us. And not only that — they narrow down everything to a few bullet points and illustrate them to help our minds remember.
And if you want a place that stores these effective tools, look no further than the subreddit r/CoolGuides. As the name suggests, it collects picture-based reference guides for pretty much anything and everything.
"If it seems like something someone might print, physically post, and reference then it is a good link for this sub," its moderators write in its 'About' section.

Dana Jandhyala, who has had a long career as an educator where she has taught in different schools and institutes, believes that visuals hold more appeal than plain text to curious and intuitive minds.
"Till date, several studies have been conducted which prove the power of visual aids in eLearning," she wrote. "And there are some interesting results drawn from them. Such as, learners respond to visual information faster as compared to text-only materials. Also, visuals help improve learning tremendously and on multiple levels. Hence, around 65% of the population comprises visual learners."

Simple Trick For Calculating Percentage
I had this realization on my own. I’m crap at maths, it was the best feeling!
Jandhyala said there are several advantages of visual aids:
They help store information longer. "Images are the simplest and the most effective way to make sure that the information gets stored as long-term memory. As per Dr. Lynell Burmark, an education consultant, our short term memory processes words and can only retain about seven bits of information. Whereas, images are directly processed by our long-term memory, where they get indelibly etched."
They make communication quicker and simpler. "Information listed in bullets is no doubt simpler to process. But, that same information in the form of an image or a video is processed even more quickly."
As per the Visual Teaching Alliance:
- Of all the information transmitted to the brain, 90% is visual;
- As opposed to text, visuals are processed 60,000x faster;
- Humans are capable of getting the sense of a visual scene in less than 1/10th of a second;
- 40% of nerve fibers are linked to the retina;
- Our brain can see images that last for only 13 milliseconds;
- The human eye can register 36,000 visual messages every hour;
- Hence, the eLearning programs which incorporate suitable visuals gain a higher preference over.

Visuals aid better comprehension. "They help learners grasp concepts easily by stimulating imagination and affecting their cognitive capabilities. Besides, the visual language is also known to have the potential to stretch 'human bandwidth' – which comprises absorbing, comprehending and analyzing new information."
Visuals act as stimulators for emotions. "Emotions and visual information are processed in the same part of the human brain. Visual stimuli and emotional response are linked in a simple way and these two together generate what we call memories. Hence, powerful images and visual metaphors create strong impressions and lasting memories in learners."
They drive motivation. "Most of the students struggle with some of their subjects because they find them uninteresting and hence lack the motivation to put in the required efforts. Visuals are the best bet in such scenarios. Captivating images, engaging videos, interesting infographics, etc. help learners fight the boredom and motivate them to do better."
So it very well might be that the things you'll learn from these guides will stay with you. At least for a little while.

Tips For Police Encounters
Where's the educational flier for the police? 1. Do not violate a person's civil rights. 2. ....
because they rely on lack of knowledge to gain entry and information to secure a conviction. The entire legal system is looking for who to blame, they actually care little about you personally.
Load More Replies...You have a right to remain silent. It’s ALWAYS BEST to exercise that right, ALWAYS! If you are stopped by a law enforcement officer, take into consideration they get shot at and they want to feel safe, you can lower their heightened level of concern by just doing a couple of things. Always keep your hands in view. If you need to get something like an ID or paper, say what you want to do before you do it. Pull your car into a well lighted area. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, you may not get an answer but it’s worth trying. Try to calm yourself, talk slowly, be specific. And remember, not all cops are jerks, they are human beings just like you.
LOL...oh Mazer...this is wonderful advice, but does NOT work for everyone...especially in America, sadly. Sometimes, there is no "lowering their heightened level of concern"...since for many, their "concern" is that they are in front of a Black male. Nothing more. I have personally witnessed some of the most respectful, polite interactions with cops that do NOT end well for the driver...because they STILL insist on removing from the car, patting down, searching, interrogating...no matter how much in view your hands are or what you tell them you are going to do. They are human, you are correct...and that sadly comes with their human biases and prejudices, too. This may work fine for some...but not for all of us. Not all Americans are treated the same by police.
Load More Replies...I would never say ANYTHING on this card. I can worry about my rights later. In the moment, I'm trying to not get hurt or murdered by the police. Gotta love being a person of color in the US.
Load More Replies...Just some more tips to this that will help everyone: For 1. A cop may tell you "No" and are not free to leave. This doesn't mean they are violating your rights, but you may be held for investigative purposes. 2. This means a cop cannot search without your consent, however cops can still search by the following: getting a warrant, may have seen something in plain view that is illegal, dog alerted to something on in your car and now can search, search after getting to arrested, or if it is not your property and its someone else's, they give consent (ie. car). 3. This means an officer should not ask you any questions related to the crime without your lawyer present, but they can still ask you questions in reference to anything else not related to the crime.
If you're not being detained, then you're free to go. If you are detained, then they can only detain you for a "reasonable time" without arresting you. Cops will absolutely ask you questions about the crime even if you don't have a lawyer present, it's up to you to not answer any questions. Don't even answer questions that are seemingly innocent "Did you watch the game last night", may just be a leading question to find out where you were.
Load More Replies...And for the love of god, keep your hands visible. If you need to reach for your ID say "My ID is in my pocket/purse, may I reach for it?" And don't call them names.
And never ever take any field tests for a DUI, all that will be used against you. You don't have to tell them where you are coming from or where you are going, just say I respectfully decline to answer your questions. You will probably get arrested, but great chance of getting it dismissed due to no evidence.
they could just burst in, shoot your ass, then realize they're at the wrong address.
Why do people expect every cop to be evil? They’re not, but because the bad ones get most publicity a ton of people hate them now.
how is this considered showing cops as evil.? Its knowing your rights
Load More Replies...I think most of the Crazy stuff here is U.S related. :D
Load More Replies...Being polite, answering simple questions and following simple directions will get you out of most police interactions pretty quickly. If you are rude, posturing and acting threatened as soon as they walk towards you...you are already acting like you got something to hide.
This is BS. First most cops won't do anything illegal because it's a waste of time. The person's lawyer will have it thrown out of court because it was illegally done. As for the lawyer no you can't if you're in the street/city. Any lawyer will tell you they can't do anything until you're charged with something. If a cop pulls you over no you're not free to go otherwise he wouldn't have pulled you over. You're detained until he finishes writing you a citation or whatever the reason it was. In certain cases they don't need a search warrant. So make sure you know which cases they are before opening your mouth and being wrong.
I guess it’s because of civil liberties in America? Personally since I don’t have anything to hide I’d just let them search and hope it clears me. If for example somebody matching my description committed a crime. Asking me questions and searching might clear me as a suspect, rather than them spending time focusing on me.
When my mom called the police he asked like 5 times if it’s okay to come in, and then when he walked in he made sure like 45 times again.
This thing should really just say “walk on eggshells for paranoid and bully cops”. American policing systems are lately corrupt and usually racist. Even if you happen to be white (which makes your chances much much better), a cop might still harm you and violate your rights AND GET AWAY WITH IT. They’re literally immune from the law in most cases. Look up “qualified immunity”. Unions are on the wrong side of society here; they promote the worst of the problems by protecting officers who need to be barred from ever working again (and put on criminal trial), and pushing for ever more funding and “protection for police” when they are the most legally-privileged, above-the-Law group in society.
What this should say is: “You have rights, but you probably cannot exercise them or have them protected, because the police have and abuse a vast power disparity between civilians and police. It’s best to do whatever they want, because they might kill you or make up violations in revenge for standing up for your rights. Especially if you’re not a white male.”
No, you can read the warrant outside your home. You have to remain in one area under the "control" of an officer. They cannot seize any evidence that is not specifically covered under the warrant. In other words, they are searching for drugs and they find bloody knives they may NOT arrest you for that or seize the knives. Further investigations of you and the bloody knives are "illegal" if they would not have discovered the connection between you and the bloody knives in another way. Fruit of the poisonous tree.
Load More Replies...Isn't there something called "probable cause" that they can apply without a warrant or that is something only in movies?
I've read for you to NOT to step outside because the laws change once you're outside your home... once you're outside you're now "public"...
Doesn't apply to black people.or else we'll end up as another BLM hashtag
How about being nice and courteous and don’t jump to conclusions
Because police officers know your rights, and at any chance they get will try and trick you into revoking your rights. If an officer shows up at your door and asks that you let them in and you do so, you have waived your right to not have your home searched without probable cause. The police are free to go through anything they like in your home, and stay for as long as they please because you have given them permission to enter.
Load More Replies...If you're presentable and drive a presentable vehicle, and are obeying the law, chances are you'll never need this.
This is crazy…. here in Australia, when I see police, I don’t jump to the offensive straight away. I can’t imagine living somewhere that views them in such a wary light. Such a different world to me.
Tell me you're white without telling me you're white. I'm sure the minorities in Australia would have something completely different to say about your police officers.
Load More Replies...When stopped by police, be polite. If you’re guilty, just accept it, and don’t listen to the idiot cards in the picture. You’ll only make them mad and give them a reason to try extra hard to find the most broken laws they can. If you don’t think they are real, call 911 to ask them for proof of legitimacy and have it on speaker. A real cop will be patient and understanding.
Because you have rights and there are laws?

Why You Shouldn’t Give Up When Starting Something New
This what millions of antivaxers are experiencing right now. They feel informed because they did internet research. Or because they are a nurse. Or because they know someone who backs up their opinion. They don't even know how much they don't know. To me, the scariest part of being in the US right now is how willing people are to take their opinion as a fact and use groupthink as a form of confirmation. Thousands of people who studied the subject for 8 years and currently work in the field are saying one thing while the other side has Timmy, the YouTube video maker talking to a guy that used to work at company and got fired is saying another. And somehow the thought process is the video is right. That is scary

Plant Watering Guide
Not true. It depends on the type of plant. If it's a deciduous plant, you risk drowning it with overwater / waterlogging. Similarly if it is a succulent. You need to look at the leaf type to determine how much water to provide. Assuming a pot plant: waxy leaves, thicker than paper: 1 cup every three days papery thin leaves, dry/papery surface: ½ cup every two days or ¼ cup every day thick fleshy leaves: ½ cup once a week etc.
