30 Features That Most Find Unattractive But For Folks In This Online Thread, It’s The Opposite
InterviewThere’s no arguing about taste when it comes to most things, including art, food, and even attraction. You tend to know what you like instinctively, and there’s nothing to feel guilty or ashamed about. Some people feel so comfortable having embraced these truths about themselves that they don’t mind sharing their thoughts with others online.
The members of the CasualConversation group opened up about the conventionally unattractive features of the human body that they personally find particularly attractive. Scroll down to see what their niche romantic preferences are like. Crows feet and gap teeth are just the tip of the iceberg.
Bored Panda reached out to artist AxelPogg, who sparked the online discussion, to hear his thoughts on attractive personality traits, not just physical ones. You'll find the thoughts he shared with us below.

Going grey gracefully, I always find people of a certain age who still dye their hair look way older than those who don’t (Jonathan Ross, Paul McCartney)
I love that Matt LeBlanc chose the natural look, he looks b**b!
ETA: I realised I’ve only used men in this example but it absolutely extends to women!!
Growing old is a privilege not everybody has, live well, laugh often and love always ❤️.
Me, too, and I’m shocked because I’d been certain I’d be the type to hide it. At least so far, my grays are the silvery, silky type, and not the yellow, Brillo-y kind my mom had. Maybe that’s in store for me later, but for now, I’m enjoying the pretty silver sparkles in my hair, and I’ve even gotten *compliments* on ‘em … from young folks! I had no idea! Did you, Doom?

Load More Replies...I started greying in my twenties. At 45 almost all black hair is outnumbered.
I wish I could go gray. My hair is blonde and turning Brunette. At this rate I won't see any gray hairs until I'm almost 60.
My hair is the same. I'm 54, and I think I noticeably started going gray and getting streaks in my late 40s. You'll get there. Both my sister and mom just went white. I wish I had gone that route, but my sister thinks if it hasn't happened by now, it ain't gonna.
Load More Replies...Making a good first impression is obviously something that many of you hope to do, whether you're dating or not. However, how you look and how utterly amazing your job is might not be what you should exclusively focus on.
The BBC reports that appearance and sexiness rank near the middle in surveys of people’s preferred characteristics. Meanwhile, things like financial prowess and having a super nice house rank among the least important attractive qualities. Instead, it’s certain personality traits that leave a much more powerful impact!
“Traits like agreeableness, extraversion, and intelligence score consistently higher than physical attraction as things that men and women in same-s*x and different-s*x couples look for in a partner,” the BBC explains.
I. Adore. Crows feet. Why would anyone hate them or get rid of them???
Anything that suggests you spend lots of time smiling and laughing or looking around at a world bathed in sunlight has always been so attractive to me.
A long time ago at school I was in a biology lesson where we were discussing the effects of aging on the body, and somebody mentioned 'crow's feet'. Our teacher said that she preferred to call her's 'laugh lines'. I said to the kid next to me 'They're not laugh lines; nothing's *that* funny'. Unfortunately, I spoke louder than I'd intended and earned yet another trip to the headmaster's office.
The Beautiful South has a song about crow's feet - "The Prettiest Eyes." Watch the whole video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hR9LYrCR_4I
I completely agree! I just realized I’m probably going to agree with everything on this list. The aging stuff that everyone hates, I’ve always loved:) it’s nice seeing other people get it:)
Freckles and/or sunspots. Every long-term partner I've had had them all over. No idea why, but I just love them!
100% can confirm. Those weird fake e-girl freckles weird me out, those girls look like AI-generated with them, but genuine freckles yeet me into a higher state of consciousness.
However, psychology professor Greg Webster from the University of Florida notes that people tend to give answers that they think make them look good in the eyes of others. This is social-desirability bias. And, as such, this might skew the results a bit. That being said, people still typically say they prefer intelligence over looks.
Agreeableness is a strong predictor of current and future relationship satisfaction. When combined with physical attractiveness, agreeableness can also predict desire for a serious relationship. Webster notes that being nice is “indispensable for harmonious long-term relationships” and that “agreeableness is kind of a necessity.”
I worry about my own aging skin... some wrinkles, chin not as tight, etc. But when I see other people with various stages of older skin I realize I don't see it in a negative way, I think they look nice. It's normal and natural to age that way, and I think it looks fine.
Skin will wrinkle, it's unavoidable. Some people have it more than others and earlier, but it WILL happen. It's a sign that your body has been carrying your soul around for a few decades. Imagine that :)
Superficial people act as if they've never seen someone in their middle and golden years. Those wrinkles and sunspots tell a story. They are a reflection of who you are. Deep laugh lines and crows feet show someone who's had a lot of fun in their life. deep frown lines show someone who's been either concentrating very hard much of their life, or often grumpy, or just serious. Weathered hands show someone who's worked hard, been out in the sun/cold, did a lot in their life.
My mother was whingeing about her wrinkles, so I told her to look at it from an artist point of view - would she rather sketch a frozen lake or a craggy cliff. Don't know if it helped.
Very dark brown eyes. Almost black. Not saying this is considered unattractive, but they’re common. Everyone is always oohing and ahhing over people with light blue or green eyes and I think having dark eyes is more attractive and comforting/reassuring for some reason.
Seeing the sun shine just right in my wife's eyas and they magically explode into an amber galaxy full of mystery and love!
My sister has those eyes. So dark you can’t see the pupil, looks gorgeous and otherworldly and she always says she want my color and I want hers😁
I have think for blue eyes and dark hair but recently saw someone with blonde hair and dark brown/black eyes and I think that's also my thing now.
My wife has brown eyes, but they go lighter or darker depending on her mood (among other things), which I find very sexy.
Upvoted you to counter the downvote someone gave you. Why you got downvoted is weird. It is awesome that you love your wife's eyes
Load More Replies...My mother had almost-black eyes, and they were also the kindest eyes I've ever seen. I sure miss her.
Crooked noses, when you see people getting surgery for that turned up button nose it’s so boring and strips the person of personality in their face.
There was an ad with one dude who had a pretty distinctive nose and got surgery and a button nose. He looked amazing with his natural nose, interesting and not like every other guy. Someone said from a Greek god to Brayden and Okaythen. I absoultely agree with this entry.
I have always looked at peoples noses, it gives us character. What a boring world it would be if we all liked the same!
Furthermore, when you combine agreeableness with social, physical, and financial dominance, you get attraction.
“We can think about dominance as being turned inward towards a relationship or dominance being focused outward away from the relationship. What people want are partners who are socially, physically or financially dominant, but not necessarily towards their partner,” Webster noted.
“It's one thing if you're able to dominate other people, but are you willing to share those resources with your romantic partner?”
Thick eyebrows. I don’t know why but I think girls with natural eyebrows are very pretty lol.
I don't notice eyebrows as much except when they are really done up, even when never tidied up and unplucked I don't notice as much. When they are really done up to the point it looks cartoon-ish that's all I can look at. The hairs are there for a reason.
Some of us Gen-Xer's were lied to when we were young about how to manage our brows, sooooo lol
Thick natural eeybrows are cool, those eyebrows that are so much 'aligned' (for absence of a better word) look sillly and/or unnatural.
It's all about fashion, if you have fine brows when lush ones are in, then it will be the same. I'm approaching the age where just having brows is good enough for me.
everyone has thick eyebrows right now?? how is that seen as unattractive?
Im autistic and an artist, and i find that my veiw on people in art influences how i see people, I find people with unique faces really attractive. and I don't just mean 'hot unique', because honestly, most conventionally 'hot' people look the same to me. and people who have the same, perfect proportions are always less fun to study and draw. I mean big/ crooked noses, noticably long/ short/ round faces, negative canthal tilt, crooked teeth, cleft lip, chubby people, muscular women, acne, freckles, moles, etc. I love all these features, I find these things appealing to look at apposed to the 'Hollywood standard' of prettiness.
As an autistic person who is actually an art historian and a pretend-to-be artist, I totally get this. Particularly with muscular (natty) women, utterly attractive to me.
It's what every contestant on 'Portrait Artist of the Year' says as well. Generally they struggle with the younger, conventionally pretty women. And they do great with the older character actors.
Thin lips in women. I've noticed that every single western female celebrity did a lip surgery or does lip fillers, even if their lips are not that thin at all. You barely can find thin lips in western actress, singers, bloggers, politicians. Even every middle class women does lip fillers. And average lips started being considered thin nowadays and estheticians recommend fillers for them.
I find this annoying, too. It's like everyone is trying to imitate a Bratz doll. The overlining outside the lips is wild.
Annie Murphy doesn't seem to have hopped on the lip filler bandwagon, and I think she is gorgeous.
I like a fuller but natural lip. I especially like a prominent cupid's bow, like Anya Taylor-Joy has.
Unless you have cleft lips, the lips you're born with are the better.
What I find annoying is that some of us actually have naturally full lips and - because so many people are getting fillers - everyone just ASSUMES that we have, too. I've also had people tell me that they love my lipstick color or can't believe how long my lip liner lasts. What? You mean this f*****g yellow chapstick in my pocket? I don't wear lipstick or blush; half the time I'm actually trying to find ways to tone my natural color down.
So people are giving you compliments? How horrible
Load More Replies...We were curious to hear about the inspiration behind the online thread. "I think I just made that post because I was thinking about how cool stretch marks are and how much I like them; that was about it," artist AxelPogg told Bored Panda.
However, he was quite surprised by just how much attention his question got online. "I did not expect the post to blow up the way it did. But posts with more general questions like that tend to get thousands of comments from what I've seen on the subreddit since. People like giving their own take on stuff like that, which is why I think it got so much attention."
A guy having a tummy ❤️ You guys don’t have to be rock solid bodybuilders for people to be attracted to you.
Mine is sculpted. A bad hernia and a nearsighted surgeon. Looks awesome lol

I love short men ❤️ always have, always will
There's something irresistible about a short guy with confidence.
But short guys with so much confidence they literally CRUSH YOUR HAND when they shake it? 🤬 The last man who did that to me crushed my hand SO hard, I involuntarily shrieked in a roomful of people and kicked him (HARD) in the nads. (That was also involuntary; I think it was my body saying “STOP THAT **NOW**!”) He approached me an hour later to apologize, WITH HAND OUTSTRETCHED, but I turned and bolted. I’m pretty sure a couple of bones were cracked, as my hand hurt me for two months. I’m otherwise okay with confident short men, but when the confidence goes overboard, GTFO. I have bones like a bird, and even Stevie Wonder can see that. You don’t crush bird-boned people unless you’re a moron!
I love me a cute short guy. Not a fan of straining my neck when kissing.
Women with strong backs and or broad shoulders.
I don't care what my broad shoulders look like, I just wish it was easier to find jackets that fit well. To get ones I can move my arms in, means the sleeves are way too long and the bottom is too baggy.
Omg yes! If a shirt or dress fits me in the shoulders the rest looks like a tent. I despise my quarter back shoulders

Bored Panda also wanted to get the author's thoughts on non-physical personality traits that he personally thinks might be universally attractive.
"I think a universally attractive trait is just being kind and considerate," he shared his perspective.
"That might sound sad since it's the bare minimum, but it's becoming more rare by the day, I feel, so we should appreciate it when we come across it and try to be more considerate to everyone around us." If you'd like to learn more about the artist, you can visit his Carrd profile.
Scars. They always have a story behind them. For example, I have bite marks on my face from when my dog bit my head when I was little and my left eye is closed because of a brain surgery to remove a tumor. A cut across the body or a missing limb is pretty attractive to me.
I have an epic scar running down my whole shin.... tequila and mosh pits do not go well together!
I have a scar in my elbow from the time my scooter broke in two and flew like Superman onto the pavement. I always say it was from the time I saved 15 kids from a drawning bus, on fire, surrounded by sharks.
My friend's husband has a stumpy left arm. On their first date she actually believed it was from a shark attack (rather than a birth defect).
Load More Replies...Scars are evidence of pain survived. Pain survived equates to strength. Strength equates to power... I mean come on.. who isnt attracted to power?!?
I may be biased since I have a bunch but I think scars, in general, make someone more perfectly them and aren't flaws, at all. I think they're evidence of someone living and it would feel kind of weird to me to be with someone who is "flawless", though good for them regardless.
Crooked teeth are very endearing on girls & guys.
Crooked teeth add character. I, too, love crooked teeth. Perfect, straight, blazing bright white teeth are boring.
Mads Mikkelsen, Viggo Mortensen, Miranda Otto, David Bowie (originally), Steve Buschemi... Being "non-perfect" is such a rare treat in Hollywood actresses and actors these days.
I adore looking at the mouth when I speak to someone. And I find attractive not so straight teeth (clean ofc). As fillers, veneers make all people look the same and takes away their uniqueness.
I love it when women's ears stick out, like if they have straight hair and their ears poke through it. I think it's hella cute.
What physical traits do you find the most attractive, dear Pandas? Are any of them something that society might find a bit peculiar? Physicality aside, what personality traits and behaviors do you personally find to be the most desirable in romantic partners? Let us know in the comments!
For me, it’s pores or like skin that looks human. Idk if you get it, but these days when I see that glass skin trend in movies or social media, I’m like “where is the texture?”. So I’m a straight female, I prefer seeing a male with real skin and pores, just make them more manly haha.
That glass skin thing makes people look like they have an oil slick on their face.
Frizzy hair, not controlled curls, but just an absolute mess of weird. Love it. Give up the frizz ease!
I've always loved frizzy hair. Mine is as straight as a yard of pump water and will not hold a style for longer than half an hour, come what may. I just don't understand why frizziness is considered a 'bad' - it's just a way hair grows and I think it's very attractive.
My hair was the same. After I got radiation, I now have natural curls!
Load More Replies...This one I can't get behind. My hair is so much nicer when it actually curls properly. When it frizzes I have to brush it and tie it up. Not that I put any more work into getting nicer curls than using conditioner and going to bed with went hair, but I never know exactly what I'm going to wake up to.
Bald could be a good hairstyle for many women. For some reason it's almost universally hated.
Shaved my head a couple of years ago and loved it! Hubby liked it, too. Then let it grow back in naturally gray. Tired of that and went back to red because he likes that best and the gray made me look much older.
I wouldn't say 'hated', but you keep wondering if it's fashion, or some sickness that demanded her to shave her head. And there's the historical reason that she'll look like a concentration camp survivor. (Yes, I'm being blunt, but honest as well).
When you shave your head, you find scars you have NO idea how you got! Growing up on a farm, I was seemingly constantly injured, but I have NO clue how I got most of the scars on my skull (though one looks as if it mightta involved barbed wire, so that’s what I told people caused that scar).
I had to get rid of my mohawk for work, and shaved my head. My husband loved it! (probably because he was the one to buzz it off lol)
A girl having a bit of tummy. A small pouch.
Basically almost everybody who has given birth ends up with at least a small pouch, and stretch marks, and yet many of us feel like we could or would never wear a bikini again, myself included. The stretch marks are scars from doing something so miraculous, they should be seen as beautiful. But I'm just as sensitive about them as anyone else, so I'm a hippocrit.
I heard some things about about women being insecure about their hip dips. At the time I had no idea what they were so I looked it up.
Turns out I'm very attracted to hip dips.
I'm at work and can't look that up for fear of what will result... someone give me the PG explanation please... XD
It's the place on the outside of your hips that dips inward. Like your hips are curving in a little.

I loveee wide-set eyes. ill see certain actresses refered to as fish or rango characters because their eyes are so far apart but genuinely i think that is such an ethereally beautiful feature to have.
I don't get the hate for wide set eyes. I've always found it really beautiful, too.
Small butts for me. I never understand the ridicule they get.
I never realised they got ridiculed. Although it's certainly true that big bums seem to have been on trend for some years now, for reasons that escape me. "Does my bum look big in this?" used to be a stock comedy phrase about women being insecure about their bum looking too big.
I like a nice butt. One of my exes had a very flat butt, her mom and her sister made fun of her for it. And she did but it was super cute when she was in underwear and naked and that was all that mattered to me, as much as some superficial aspect of someone I cared about mattered.
Mine is small and flat, and I hate it. Not so much that's it's small, the fact that it's flat.
The guy I like have natural “vampire teeth” and I think it’s so freaking cute!!
I also like freckles (the more the merrier), big nose, gummy smile, scars.
I had a lady friend that has vampire teeth, and I told her how much I thought they were cool. She smiled widely and said it freaks most people out. She was happy they didn't freak me out.
My late mother had prominent canines. They were German shepherds.

I've heard that this wasn't normal so i'll add it here
Tanlines.
Something about them makes me go f*cking bananas.
Vitiligo, freckles, scars. ppl say it's ugly but hell, I love it. Anything that's odd tbh. It makes them unique and somehow so beautiful.
I also think Vitiligo is really attractive, can’t imagine people who don’t find it so.
I didn't realize I have vitiligo on my face because I usually have at least a 5 o'clock shadow. As I got older I noticed my beard was getting gray which was normal. But when I actually shaved, I noticed my skin was kind of leopard looking on my chin and jawline. When I looked vitiligo up, it mentioned that itchiness was one symptom and , lo and behold, everywhere that my beard made me itch was vitiligo.
I would say bunny teeth, they look so cute to me.
I had bunny teeth and an underbite growing up....wasn't cute with all the nicknames and jokes. Got braces...fixed the underbite...still have the teeth, but now it's hidden lol
I love this thread! Love a big nose and gap teeth.
Don't be. The Frnch acctress/singer, Vanessa Paradis (spelling may be off), has one too!

My boyfriend has a mole on his face and I adore it. He said he was teased as a kid about it and im like hah jokes on them, you're literally the most handsome man on this planet soooooo lol
Honestly, I love body hair lol like maybe not a full blown body suit of hair, but a thick hairy chest and neck and stomach are the absolute best.
I follow an artist who has two molds and I think it's cute and makes him stand out. One time a fan posted a retouched photo in which the molds were wiped out, plus some more details, a softer skin I think. I could hardly recognize him that way
Small chin / weak chin. Small boobs. Not sure if necessarily a preference but I don't mind them.
This thread seems to focus on physical attributes and thats ok, but I want to add this. I have been married/divorced 3 times. My wives were not unattractive. Personality is what drew me in though, at first. Beware, when you meet someone new you're on you're best behaviour, as they are. That changes. Im 60 now, cancer, custody of my 10 and 12 year old kids. Oldest is 35. Not looking for any companionship whatsoever, shell shock I guess from that last one. Turned into a m.e.t.h. queen, quite a shitshow. But Compassion, empathy, love that is reciprocated, little smiles, honesty. Thats whats important. Makes no difference what you look like, a broken heart hurts the same.
I get your point but that's not what the post is about. And, as adults with (some) experience in life, we know what you said might be true, but again, totally out of place here. I've been wronged in romantic relations by both "beautiful" and "average" (beautiful to me, possibly average to other people) looking people, that doesn't mean I have to comment on how that changes my perception of them (SPOILER ALERT: It doesn't).

Thick, strong thighs. On a man or a woman. I just want to nibble them. Or wrap them around me. lol.
A bit of acne and a bit of rosacea is kinda cute bc it brings some colour to the face depending on skin tone. I think a 100% even skin tone is not as cute as the natural slight redness some ppl have. And people call it "blotchiness" and try to get rid of it but i think it looks nice.
Yeah, I don't think this person has ever seen the people who turn up on the Dr Pimple Popper show with untreated rosacea that causes their nose to swell to gigantic proportions.

Tall gums. Makes the person smile like a kid, it looks so innocent and happy.
Never realized people dislike them until I read too many comments here on Reddit.
I agree, but I didn't realize until thinking back to previous relationships/crushes
I get worried when I see people with hardly any gums. It looks as though they've receded and their teeth could fall out. And receding gums can happen with over brushing.
Does a lisp count? Just a slight lisp that manifests now and then.
Alcibiades supposedly had a lisp. It was his only defect, and it somehow made him hotter.
My daughter has a friend who has psoriasis. She's been made fun of all her life but we just met her. She came swimming at our house and when she got out of the pool, her legs were basically polka dotted. I just thought it looked so cool and I had never seen anything like it. I voiced my opinion and she went from self-conscious to amazed by my reaction. I think I did a good deed that day in helping someone feel good about themselves.
I wouldn't say it's an attractive feature as she's just a kid but definitely something that she shouldn't be ashamed of and learn to love about herself because it looks super rad!
You did a great thing! I experience the exact same red polka dot look. It is always there, just more visible at times. Sometimes they really raise and get itchy, especially after getting in water that is chemically treated. When it is hot, a little humid and I have a little tan they are hardest to see. I avoided shorts for way too much of my life because I hated that about my legs.
Braces, probably a bit more common. My first girlfriend and I had braces at the same time so I think I kinda associated them with that honeymoon phase of my life.
When young men have forehead wrinkles... so handsome. Older men too, but there's something about the anachronism of being young with deep forehead lines that does it for me. Also women who gray young, and/or who have chunks of gray in their hair in their 20s. Beautiful.
Women’s arms. I dunno why but I’ve always loved them. Don’t like skinny ones.
But women's arms come in all shapes ans sizes(?). Also, it's not like it's a personal choice, some women are skinny just because, so are their arms.
Balding, very hairy men. And I mean *hairy*. The fluffier the better. My guy is pretty hairy, but I secretly hope he's going to grow more as time goes on.
I love a soft man. Sure the 6 pack may be nice to look at but I want to snuggle with a softie. Belly, chest, soft arms all of it!
And long, bushy armpit hair.
Ears ! People don’t necessarily hate it or love it but I am fascinated by people’s ears! I notice their ears before anything.
Like completely hairless. I promise this isn't a kink, but I've met people with alopecia or people who have very vigorous ongoing chemo treatments and I just find like, most if not all of them look sort of ethereal and beautiful to me.
If they have a mole inside their eyes. Not that “attractive” but I think it is so cool.
Me neither, I'm hoping it means on the eyelids. My mother had a raised freckle on her actual eye and she's had it removed, hopefully for good

Dark circles. I hate them on myself but i LOVE them on other women and men it looks so hot.
I don't care for mine, especially when added to wrinkly bags. But I doubt anyone else cares
Not really a default feature but when a girl has fake tan on and it looks really unblended and patchy I find that more attractive. Weird I know haha.
In my experience, any physical feature can become attractive if it reminds us of a nice person who shared it. So don't worry about "flaws" - instead be the person who makes rhem memorable!
Perfectly true. I never used to like facial moles, but since my youngest great niece, who is the cutest child on the planet, has one, if I see someone else with such a mole, I find myself smiling with approval.
Load More Replies...I like when someone owns whatever nature gave them. It's one thing to correct something that interferes with your ability to function (like wearing glasses) but to just own the body hair or moles or stretch marks or whatever just shows me that you have better things to do than worry about your appearance and I'm so here for it.
Stretch marks are soooo hot! It’s saying your body is too hot for your skin to contain
