My first job out of high school was at a company that did security for gated communities. I was in the dispatch room when a call came in that there was a black man walking down the street. I was young and naive and shocked that someone would call security for that and so I c*****d up laughing at the absurdity. It stopped being funny real quick when I realized my coworkers were taking it seriously and sent out patrol to harass the poor man for simply existing. 🤬

I remember getting home from school one time and nobody was home. I didn't have a phone or a way to contact anyone, or a key to the house, so I was trapped outside. I don't remember much, I don't think it was particularly cold, maybe just windy. But I was out there for ages before anyone got home. I remember huddling on the doorstep crying because I didn't know what to do and I was scared.
