behaviroral science grad here. had professor in college who insisted that animals do not have any capability to have emotions like humans. no compassion, no love, no jealousy-nothing. that they only run on instinct. other in the class, including myself, believed this to be false i was one of the very few to disagree openly with her. between owning a variety of animals myself as well as working at a zoo/habitat i have seen animals have great emotional moments between not only their own species but with other species. ended up working in a law enforcement environment after graduating and am very comfortable saying that in some ways animals are much better "humans" than our fellow man/woman.
