I remember when dentists started wearing gloves to work on your teeth. There were a few notable ones that outright refused, stating it wasn't necessary, it was their freedom not to have to, and the govt was overreaching in forcing the issue. And as of last year, for added fun, there's the "import duty" lottery on parcels. La Poste will slap a €1 duty (and €8 "handling charge") on many parcels, including ones clearly marked as gifts (exempt from duty if under €35), and EVEN on a bloody Christmas Card (because The Post Orifice incorrectly told my friend that it needed to have a customs declaration, so it went through customs instead of being treated as a letter!), so my attitude now is that any parcels sent to me that I have not been notified about and agreed to will be given specific instructions: Return to sender. Additionally, when I'm buying stuff from Amazon or other online shopping, sorry, no UK based suppliers. It's a hard no. I'm not prepared to deal with the customs chaos any more.

I was in Northern Ireland in the weeks leading up to the Brexit vote and every single form of media had information on EXACTLY what it would mean if people voted to leave the EU. The media was BEGGING people to listen, ask questions, and be informed BEFORE they voted. NOPE! Guess the joke is on them.

One study, for example, found that people are even willing to give up the chance to earn money to avoid reading opinions they disagree with.

Actually, about half the fishermen voted pro (those fishing cod etc), half against (those fishing shellfish etc --- all exported to Spain). As a sidenote, in the Netherlands the state gets more taxes from sport fishing licences (keeping in mind costs like restocking rivers and inspections etc) than from the 'real' fishing industry --- so it's perplexing that 'the fishermen' is always such an issue; you made a generation of miners jobless without qualms but this much much smaller group is a sacred cult or so?

Also, Texas didn't want to follow national grid regulations that required weatherizing equipment, so it wouldn't freeze in winter or lock up in summer. So, they cut themselves off from the national grid and made a Texas-only grid controlled by ERCOT (Electric "Reliability" Corporation Of Texas). I worked for years at multiple jobs and 80 plus hour weeks when I had just the one .....my work credits expired. The government ran out the clock on them. I am not getting back pay because my ex who does not live me with has a good job and my name was on the joint bank account so I could get my child support. I will get nothing at all for ssi . We treat our disabled people terribly. We all all one accident or illness from it . Same with the poor. Most of them work and the ones that do not are usually children or elderly. But we are too worried about the small percent of fraud . So they can starve apparently

I am old enough to remember this so believe me when I tell you those were Chickenpox Parties. Chickenpox contracted as a child is relatively mild, while the same disease contracted as an adult could be very serious. Since there was no vaccine, the idea was to ensure that your child got Chickenpox as a child to prevent future harm. No one, and I mean NO ONE voluntarily exposed their child to Measles. Measles was—and is—a serious disease that can cause deafness, blindness, pneumonia and death. Too many firsthand reports of how bad it could be to contract Measles for anyone to inflict it on their child. Problem is that vaccines have been too effective and people have short memories.

Can confirm. One of my earliest childhood memories was visiting one of my mom's friends BECAUSE the friend's kids had chickenpox. We caught it and it was not fun. I still have scars from it. Got a lecture a few years later about how terrible it was that my second grade teacher had never had chickenpox and that she would likely suffer terribly from it if she caught it.

I remember an incident, that helped fuel BLM, in which a black guy, who was in his car with his wife, got stopped by a cop for something minor like f.e. a broken taillight (no clue if that accusation was even legit), respectfully informed the cop that he had a legal gun in his car and where the gun and the car's papers were (NOT in the same compartment) and when the cop wanted to see those papers, as the driver moved to get the papers, the cop panicked and shot him dead anyway. I heard the audio recording with the shocked, desperate pleas of the wife that will haunt me forever. So to make a long story short, driving while black is apparently a crime worthy of extra judicial, capital punishment, according to Kambree up there.

America needs to get over the ideal that working while ill is a virtue. Our American ancestors understood quarantines, and practiced them often. The Influenza epidemic at the tail of WWI showed Americans trying to do whatever they could to stop the spread. Now I still mask up in 2025 because the anti-vaxxers are still pushing their agenda. Hubby did not, and picked up a bug at the Dr. office. The Japanese have the right idea. They were already used to masking years earlier, and understand the benefits. Masking for Coronavirus was second nature.

Joe Publique: he's neither "pro birth" nor "pro-life". He's against abortion being legally available to women who can't afford to travel places where abortion is legal - he's a misogynist hypocrite. What he wants is for rich women to get abortions while the poor suffer due to not being able to terminate unviable pregnancies safely, or feeling that they have no choice but to risk an illegal abortion. He wants the rich to remain free while the poor suffer. Opposing legal abortion doesn't stop abortions - it just means increasing avoidable death and suffering among the poor while doing nothing to stop the rich carrying on like they always do.

I've come to the conclusion that most Republicans are actually just Democrats with markedly lower intelligence. It is telling how many states with the worst education systems are also the ones with the most Republicans 😔. In the end it isn't red against blue. Most of us want the same things. The reality is the fight is two fold. The intelligent against the ignorant and the rich against the poor. Yes I am fully aware that there is a lot of overlap between the two battles.
