Having your opinions is always a sign of a mature, independent and confident person. But what if that confidence is so strong it gets in the way of self-reflection and self-criticism? Apparently, having bucketloads of confidence is a two-edged sword, especially if you lack a substantial argument to back it up.

Thanks to a Reddit community called “Confidently Incorrect,” we now know what happens when all that empty bravado turns against you. First, you land on the pages of this subreddit “For those times when people are way too smug about their wrong answers.” And second, you are likely to be sizzled and turned into roast.

So scroll down for some of the funniest examples of overconfident people proven wrong, and be sure to check out part 1 of the article after you’re done!

Yeah, if kids know more about it, they are able to make better and more informed decisions, resulting in less unwanted pregnancies, abortions, STIs, etc.

Actually, the fact is that sex education at school and at home leads to much less underage sex, and access to that information and contraception leads to drastically reduced teen pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases and abortions. FACTS.

Countries that have good sex education and easy access to birth control have the lowest teen pregnancy rates.

The ‘Confidently Incorrect’ subreddit is really a gentle (and often much-needed!) reminder to always double-check our facts even when we are totally sure about them. With the internet being a perfectly safe place to voice out whatever is on your mind, many people abuse that by spreading false assumptions, gossip, fake news and facts.

No wonder the community, which is only a year old, has been sharing a lot of content “for those times when people are way too smug about their wrong answer.” With 633k members, ‘Confidently Incorrect’ is growing day by day, and you can see how very relatable people find it.

No, but hate groups in the US often appropriate Viking and Scandinavian lore and symbols to promote white supremacy. I've never personally seen ø used in a racist context, but it's not about the symbol itself. It's about white supremacists misusing it. But that was a very bad assumption to make in this situation, as the symbol is obviously most often used outside of an American/hate group context. Even if it were being used by white supremacists (again, idk, never seen it used that way myself), it's ridiculous to think anyone who uses it is racist.

"Someone posted a video of Conan interviewing Jennifer Garner to another subreddit called r/WatchPeopleDieInside. I scrolled through the comments and saw someone who thought stuff like that would make a great community of its own. It was super late at night when I saw that, so I made a subreddit really quick for no reason, posted a video or two, then went to bed."

People do half and quarter birthdays in Europe. Its not super common, but to say that they aren't bright because they are doing something that is slightly more popular in Germany (ie their lineage) is what's not bright. I myself am German and while its not common... I know people who do this.

Just an FYI, newborns/babies change so fast the 1st year, it's actually a "thing", to photograph & mark the occasion, every month. That's why you can find all sorts of "Calendar blankets", in many different themes, for parents to do these photos at home. Many photographers & studios also offer packages, as well.

I absolutely hate how people attribute human emotions to wild animals. How can a wild bear from vision and smell alone conclude that a group of people is not a threat? A bear is a bear and will do what a bear has to do in the given situation. It doesn't "understand" you, it makes a decision based on what it can gain and what it has to lose. If a wildlife biologist says a bear with cubs can be aggressive, then by all means step right up to that bear and see whether it "understands" your intentions or not.

I have lived in bear country most of my life, and have had far too many "close" encounters. I HAVE BEEN LUCKY. Bears are intelligent enough and able to learn, so every encounter is Russian roulette. Also Imogene is 100% right; your effin selfie is likely to lead to a dead or mauled you, and a dead mama and cubs. Saw waaay to many stupid tourists trying to get that perfect picture. Shoot the tourist, not the bear.

I agree. People endanger bears all the time. Trying to get a selfie with a bear is selfish and stupid and could cost the bear his life. You stupid humans are in the bear’s territory! Respect that you are INVADING THE BEAR’S HOME! You have already stolen all the other land they originally had! Shoot the tourists is a good plan!

"Just look at politics. Politicians are probably some of the most confident people on the planet, and a pretty large amount of people just listen to what they say. Our sub is probably 75-80% politics. It's people parroting what they've heard their favorite politicians say, and they parrot it because they believe those politicians. They believe in confidence." When my daughter was 14yo (in 2015) she was SA'd by 2 men (28&35yo's) at her first casual/weekend job & my Mum (& others) still shop there despite the company NOT firing or even suspending those men. 6years on & the older she gets the less she understands why anyone who knows supports that company. Especially friends & family that pay lip service to #MeToo etc & KNOW how much it damaged her.

True story. Director of finance in a fortune 500 company asked me to order her a calculator. After it arrived she was furious that it was broken and she could not clear the screen, I removed the printed screen protector. Everytime she tried to rub her "education" and intelligence in our faces I would ask about her calculator ( I was the lowly receptionist).

This is exactly why everything has warning labels - like "remove protective cover before use" and "don't drink bleach" while calls to poison control soar after trumps suggests it. Sadly, Jackson needs a small yellow sticker to point out the obvious.

Years ago I bought a TV that had a lot of bad reviews because, as they claimed, the TV would go off without a reason. Quick look into manual and they could realise it was a standby mode if the TV "think" you are not watching.

But how is that different from going off without a reason? Considering how many settings TVs have these days, I think it's dumb for the manufacturer to set this mode as a default in the first place.

Everyone is complaining that they got one that was blue and not stainless steel as the picture showed. Idiots didn't remove the protective film. There was even a sticker up in the top corner telling people to remove the seal.. as well as a plethora of comments telling people to remove it. ridiculous!

There are idiots everywhere in the world. And then there are just uneducated people. It's those to blame, who have free access to education and refuse to learn. When I got my high school diploma in the US, all I had to pass was "American History", as if world's history started with the "conquest of paradise". In Europe, you are taught world history, starting with the Big Bang. I am sorry for all those who'd have the brains and ambition but no access to schools either because of lack of money or because there simply aren't any, like in 3rd world countries...

We have “pink” baking competitions at work for that. Everyone brings in anything they care to make and give away, just as long as it is pink. So, yeah, lots of pink frosted goodies end up circulating through the campus. It’s fun and my department gets very competitive with the other cardiology departments.

When even cancer is sexualized, you know a society has gone off the patriarchal rails… I would just say he needs to educate himself on what the whole bra thing was about, but it was second nature for him to immediately jump to it being about women wanting to be treated like an equal, & him trying to put her in her place, which is the bedroom, apparently. The clueless here is Inception levels of deep.

Took me a while to get this they/them thing, since English in school is some decades ago (I even cannot remember this having been a subject in school ever). In German you would say or write "he or she", most people or scripts only refer to the maskulinum. For example: "If somebody eats this, he will be sick."

What cracks me up about these people is that they also think "Thou" is an onorific because on the King James bible is used all over the place to talk to god. It's actually a familiar second person. Like "Tu" in Italian and Spanish. "You" is the singular and plural second person, but as singular was an honorific, like it is in Spanish (vos) and Italian (Voi). If you have to have an Italian explain english to you, you need to read more.

Another good point on why religion should not dominate the education system. Although in this case there is not even a religious point to it, except if you consider asking questions in general as heretic. It can only be explained by a complete rejection of science in general - "If we tell them about electrons and physics, soon they will want to read about evolution..."

For the other type of people who have brains and IQ levels not doing a "Journey to the West" on the Number line: Electricity is a form of energy produced by the flow of electrons (Current Electricity). The direction of flow of the current is opposite to that of the electrons. The charge carried by them is the source of electricity. It is NOT some magical superpower or an episode of "Unsolved Mysteries". It is a scientific phenomenon that scientists, REAL scientists, can explain easily. Stop feeding lies to kids. Especially through their school text books, unless you want to flaunt the failure and joke your education system is.

The y2K problem killed my vcr. People always think I am kidding, but it really did. The time kept flashing madly, I tried to reprogram it to a few years, and the machine shut itself off. After the third attempt, it stayed off, permanently. I was frustrated (vcrs were expensive) and amused at the same time. And it still is a great anecdote to tell people, if the topic comes up.

A computer knows about dates whatever it is coded to know. If the code says for it to assume that the first two digits of a year are "19," that what it will do. You can change the code to get rid of this problem.

I gave up most of my Christmas vacation to transfer our accounting system from DOS based to a Windows program, ensuring the GL balanced to the penny and that the new program would be fully functional.. Come January 1st all of our invoices and picking tickets would have been dated 1900 and the entire system would have been in chaos.

This is the type of troglodyte that wears it like this purposefully just so they can say "The sign says I need to WEAR a mask, and I'm WEARING a mask!" when anyone tells them to pull it up. I had a couple of shitheads like this show up at my job acting smug like they just found a clever loop hole.

It's quite amazing how some Americans feel threatened by what someone else makes. It ain't your business if a server would make $150K and a cashier $90K. It doesn't affect your income nor your life. So why should you be against a minimum wage? Because people who don't want to pay their employees a decent wage are telling you that the economy would collapse. Look at Europe, where everyone is obliged by law to pay a minimum wage and that economy is doing pretty well for a collapsing economy.

And in some remote podunk town like I grew up in.... no, $31K still won't support you and your family, so can we just get over it and pay people decently, pay taxes that will fund health care and education and things other than a ridiculously over-bloated military?

North Alabama here, town of about 4000 sandwiched between two major cities. I own my own business and only draw out 10k/yr (the rest stays for the slow times) and it's plenty for this family of three. If I drew 31k, I'd be rolling in it. So can we quit pretending like *everyone* needs 3x that?

OK. I’ll take the million bucks now. I’m 60. I come from a long-lived family, so let’s say I live to 110. That’s 50 years. There are 12 months in a year, and the monthly payout is $6. 50 x 12 = 600. And 600 x $6 = $3600. Even if I was 10, that would only make it $7200. Math is hard for some people. The million dollar lump sum is also passive income—-just passive income you get all at once, instead of piecemeal.

I’m noticing a pattern amongst my high school students… the ones that I constantly have to remind to pull their masks up are the ONLY ones who end up at home, having tested positive for COVID. Seriously! I’ve only had one student, who does wear his mask correctly, have to quarantine, because his much younger school-age brother tested positive for COVID. All the others do not mask properly. Also, it’s “who’s,” not “whose.”

Amazon's great healthcare is inaccessible for Amazon employees that are sick, because they get fired. And working a shift without a lunch or a restroom break should earn you $15 per hour.

You can also fail to get this right using an actual calculator. Basic (non-scientific) calculators treat entries exactly as the person described it, "reading" from left to right. Which is why maths lessons should also include how to use a key tool in the mathematical arsenal.

The assumption in itself only makes two - serious - errors: First the law of large numbers says nothing about the individual case. So while statistically over time a virus will get less virulent, this does not mean that no strain could become more dangerous, just that the more dangerous variants with a certain probability will decrease in numbers over time if they tend to seriously incapacitate the majority of hosts - while there still can be people dying from it. Second, less virulent does not mean less contagious- quite the opposite. The "perfect" scenario would be an extremely contagious virus with very few symptoms. What surprises me most is the fact that this argument is often brought on by people who generally reject the idea of evolution - while this mechanism is quite what evolution is all about.

Mutation does not make a virus stronger, it makes it more resistant/resilient. That's how survival works. Just like cockroaches are able to develop immunity to an insecticide only a few generations after being exposed to it.

    Otter
    Community Member
4 years ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

Mutation can work either way. Viruses are constantly mutating into forms that are more or less virulent or contagious, it's their nature to constantly change, and the laws of Natural Selection take it from there, deciding which mutant forms will become predominant. And BTW, pandemic viruses generally get more virulent and then less lethal when they kill too many hosts, look at the history of the H1N1 virus that cause the 1918 "Spanish Influenza" pandemic. The first wave was a bad flu, after a round of mutations the second and third were incredibly deadly, then the viruses became less deadly as too many hosts died off and the super-deadly strains had no place to live. Now the H1N1 virus is just seasonal flu that's worse than most.

I can’t tell if the respondent is being sarcastic… or if they agree with the original post. Are we dealing with two ignorant people or just one?

Yes, of course viruses get weaker with each mutation. That's why we don't have any drug-resistant superbugs! Oh, wait...

Viruses don't mutate to make themselves weaker so that they get killed off easier. It's the stronger variants that are stronger.

Probably should learn about viruses mutations first. Viruses can become more deadly simply by being more transmissible allowing them to get into vulnerable populations. Saying that a dead host is no good to them, they need someone who can help it spread.

This reinforces my belief that radical-righters truly believe that we all agree with them, but we say differently just to be mean.

Everyone knows this? I'm the only person in the world who doesn't know this? Doubtful.

Just as everyone knows that the earth is flat, right? I mean, it's obvious.
