In the fairy tale, he doesn't just kiss her, she wakes up from the pain of giving birth to twins. That's a bit more than an unwanted pressing of lips to wake her from a spell she can't save herself from.

I found the compromise: say sorry when she wakes up and get to know each other first

I have a copy of the original Grimms' Fairy Tales. Creepy to think these stories were actually written for children.
