Matt Bors is a cartoonist and editor based in Portland, Oregon. His work has appeared in The Guardian, Foreign Policy, and other respected publications all over the world and the Internet. Bors also is a two-time Pulitzer Prize Finalist for his political cartoons (2012 and 2020).
He's one of those rare creators that have successfully intertwined their work and politics. In a time when many artists try to stay as neutral as possible so they won't alienate any of their audience and can appeal to as many people as they can (generate clicks), Bors continues to make bold statements, tackling some of the most difficult American social issues.

State schools are much more expensive than they were when I went to one a long time ago, but also they now offer so many more perks and amenities included in the price than the basic education that I got for my money. I am happy for my taxpayer money to subsidize education for younger people, but I’m not happy to have my taxpayer money going towards paying for all of these nonessential things. I think two things have to happen, one is that schools have to offer an option of basic, affordable education... and two is that we should increase tax subsidies as needed to make that education available to everyone who wants it.

it's called a scholarship... or a grant.... you have to compete for them... both go unclaimed every year all over the country.... sometimes the US military will pay for an advanced degree... they will hire in second lieutenants with pre-med training or with nuclear physics degrees and send them to school for their doctorates with the proviso that you are an endentured servant for years years years after that until you pay down what you owe them... if you resign your commission before then, they smack you with a big bill... I know of companies that will hire straight-A high school kids on a work study type program... they work a year, go to school a year, and so forth until at least graduating with a master's... There are companies out there that will hire hourly workers & provide money for books & tuition for night classes... these programs take years to complete the BA or Masters, but you get a FREE education... and when you finish school, you will have banked up experience

Bors always wanted to be a comic artist, but it wasn't until after 9/11 (he was 17 at the time) that he became political and alarmed at the direction the US was headed in. "I started drawing political cartoons for my college newspaper in the run up to the Iraq War and never stopped," he told Bored Panda.
The artist loves the medium — he has a thought balloon and a pen tattooed on his inner forearms — and believes it's a good medium to talk about anything. "I think with comics you have the ability to expose the way political arguments don't hold up and reveal how situations are absurd in a way that you just can't accomplish in a column."

But Bors doesn't just create comics. He also produces them. In 2013, he founded The Nib, an online magazine that shares strips on what is going down in the world. What's really interesting is The Nib is kind of owned by its readers — the independent project runs entirely on member subscriptions and donations.
"There was a hole in the publishing world that The Nib filled that is supportive of political and non-fiction cartoons and people want to support that," Bors said. "Editorial cartoons, in particular, used to be in most papers and provide hundreds of people with jobs, and now it's just a handful. So we're an outlet that makes sure this work has a home from established professionals to up-and-comers. We're fully independent, which means we can focus on comics and not the whims of a larger media company trying to grow infinitely or flip IP into movies—we just want to publish comics."

I'm not sure if its because the way they said it or if its actually what they said, but the blocked comments open up good dialogue on they hypocrisy in the way the sides view the protest and riots. Why is it then okay to meet in mass groups and disregard the rules set in place then completely generalize a whole group of people because they happen to support a different person? What morale ground is there to stand on at that point? Yes, Covid is real but I know people on both sides of the fence that deny it and I know people on both sides that believe it, myself included.
After all these years and accomplishments, however, Matt hasn't lost his passion for the craft. It's what keeps him going. "Awards are a nice boost sometimes, especially the ones that represent a blessing from colleagues, but they are ultimately meaningless if you're not happy doing the work without them."

Don't go to the hospital in the States unless you are a millionaire. One man has to pay over a million dollars hospital bills after being hospitalized for a week in the USA. He will never be able to fork out this huge amount. He lost his job and has no more any insurance. This is "America" at it's best, letting people get into debt and losing their house or to die like a poisoned rat. It's very shocking that such a great nation has such a big budget for the army, not for health care. I feel truly very sad for those living lin this God forsaken country having no means to afford health care. It's a tragedy, my God help you all. The system has to be changed as the working class makes big money for the ultra-rich. The underdogs are slaves for the top dogs.

Even here in Germany (where I am stationed) the healthcare is pretty slow (friend displayed stroke symptoms went to ER and was told he would have to wait 2 days for an MRI because they don't do them on the weekend). Even the local that can afford it pay for private healthcare. Why would they do that if universal I so great? Who is going to pay all these extra cost or lower the wage of the doctor and nurses to afford all of this like they do in Germany?

Actually, though I find the rest of the comics excellent, I do disagree with destroying historical artifacts. We do need to fight against imperialism and white supremacy, but that is not the way. It is better to remember and interpret in a new way, than to forget.

Social programs are not socialism. If your house were on fire, would you turn away the fireman? If you were diagnosed with cancer, would you refuse to accept Medi-Caid because you're out of work for a while and your insurance terminated? My country is the worse. They wrongfully imprison innocents and cases takes years to reach verdict. Even divorce cases where both parties want it. It easily takes 15-20 years if ur a common person. If there is property or kids or unwilling party involved,it's easier to commit suicide cause the verdict won't be in until ur dead. If ur a celebrity than it's different story. Most do not, except on the internet, is my guess. Kinda like Brexiteers, is my guess. I've a few in-laws in the UK who see me as less-than, b/c of my genetic profile/ethnic wahtevers. To my face, it's tea and crumpets. Online? They're horrible about the exact same people I'm from!
