If you've ever tried to call a cat somewhere in a foreign country, I'm sure you've noticed that they don't always react. Why? Because apparently international cats react to different sounds.

In England, they say "chh-chh-chh". In Israel, they say "ps-ps-ps". As for India, they say "meow-meow". Each country gets a cat's attention with different noises, and these were just a couple examples! Keep on scrolling for a list of how to call cats in a bunch of different countries, compiled by Bored Panda.

In my region we also use ci ci/tsi tsi instead of the above. But only to unknown cats. My cat usually reacts to "are you hungry?'"

I'm glad they posted this - I heard a Polish neighbour do this a few times and I had assumed she was making a noise like rattling a box of biscuits. I like the thought of kitties understanding different languages!

Me too! But rattling the box of treats (or a can being opened) always works better.

Oh my! If you say it, it will sound like noise we make to call a cat, but spelling is so funny! We spell it kici-kici (from word kicia, which is another name for cat)

The actual spelling is "kici kici", but you will make the proper sound when you read it they way it's written above.

I would hate to meet this cat in a dark alley at night! He looks as if he could put a serious hurting on you!

It's kici kici kici It doesn't sounds like kichi or even kitschi. There is no "ts" sound. You can use a Google translator to hear how it sounds like :o

But... why is it spelled in German? It's 'kici-kici', so in English it would be something like 'kichi-kichi' or 'kitchy-kitchy'.

i would write it more like "kici-kici-kici" and shorter "ci-ci-ci" is also popular, cats react the same

Mine doesn't and is also oblivious to other popular words such as " vodka" or "cabbage"

it isn't about a letter, it's about a sound 'tsch' is close to 'ci/ć' for a foreigner

The picture is just perfectly combined with the typical reaction to "miez miez". Unless you have treats...

And endlessly amusing to me always because one term for breasts is pronounced "Tsitsi" so it's as though you're calling out for your runaway pair of boobs.

As an American... this is true, I hear this all the time...usually by people who have no business near a cat.

I always called a cat "kss-kss-kss" and I am from Latvia. "Minka-minka" is an old school nowadays used by old people or in a country side.
