I think that almost every single one of us has at least one of those items that we've been using for ages, and somehow, even after all this time, it still works like an absolute charm. I guess some things are simply built to last a lifetime. Or a few.

There's this popular subreddit with over 872,000 members called BuyItForLife where people post pics and talk about the oldest yet the most durable high-quality things they own and have been using for a really long time. Some of the items shared in this Reddit community have been around for more than 100 years!

Bored Panda has thoroughly scanned the BuyItForLife subreddit and made a list of the most interesting and fascinating items that have withstood the test of time. As always, don't forget to leave a comment and vote for your favorite ones!

I have a 36-year-old (new in 1985) pair of Sorel's I bought from the Burton "catalog" in my entryway. They look and feel better than any I've tried since. The first Burton Snowboard catalog I received was a quarter-inch think stack of black and white photocopied pages held together with a clip and sent in a Manila envelope.

Well this is timely...I had my only winter boots on a few days ago. I wondered just how old they were. I know they pre-date my children (oldest is 30) and my marriage (1988) so makes them about 33 years old. Give or take. They are Sorel!

Candace Fitzpatrick

Sorel is the best winter boot brand IMO. I have two pairs, tall for deep snow and a pair of duck boots. Not quite as old as these but old enough and look brand new. Doubt I’ll be shopping for winter boots in a long time.

WOW this is timely...Yesterday I had my old/only winter boots on and was trying to remember how old they were. Yes they are Sorel and they predate my children (oldest is 30) they predate my marriage (1988) so somewhere in the vicinity of 33 years. Best boots ever!

I just replaced a set of boots I got about 17-20 years ago. Good boots can last a long time, especially when you live in warmer climates and thus rarely use them.

Those would have been the original Sorel's manufactured by Kaufman Rubber Co in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Kaufman went bankrupt in 2000 and the brand was purchased by Columbia Sportswear. The original Sorel's made by Kaufman were damn near indestructible. I don't if the newer ones made by Columbia are as good.

So you can gift this set to your children, as a suggestion only, research how to maintain the wooden handles. The bottom of the handles on the two pans on the right are burnt and may need attention to prevent future problems. Also, adding some type of moisturizer would prolong their life. That being said, it's a fantastic set that I would treasure!!
