110 Epic Photos From Burning Man 2018 That Prove It’s The Craziest Festival In The World
What was once a genuinely radical festival, based on principles of inclusion, decommodification, self-reliance and communal effort, Burning Man festival has changed somewhat.
With your average person in Burning Man's 2018 edition needing to shell out $1500 over the course of the art festival, 'escaping capitalism' in order to rub shoulders with spaced out Silicon Valley brogrammers and pseudo-bohemian billionaires doesn't come cheap for the opportunity to capture the most amazing pictures for your Instagram.
Of course, there is still a large core of regulars and those who attend in the true spirit of the Buring Man festival, the installations are pretty amazing, and the atmosphere is as intense as ever. Those that we mostly see however are the same old Instagram influencers, whose habit of taking similarly posed photos can make even an event like this seem like we've seen it all before.
Luckily, we here at Bored Panda have managed to compile a list of awesome Burning Man photos from this years event, scroll down below to check them out for yourself and let us know what you think in the comments!

As soon as I saw this pic, I immediately thought of the official video for the song "Little Talks," by Of Monsters and Men: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghb6eDopW8I
It appears by this post that only Beautiful people with perfect Bodies can attend Burning man.
WOW! I love the Chinese way to express in art! All from old pictures and porcelain to movie today and things like this it’s just so...WOW!
Always provide proper attribution to the original photographer please @xmasons - https://www.instagram.com/p/BnKIK0yh8s_
Everything and all photos are amazing, but(t) this one made me laugh :))
Ahh, if only she had a tattoo of a person on a ladder on her inner thigh.
Could I just point out that if wasn't taken at Burning Man, and was like an ad for a magazine or something people would be saying "This is cultural appropriation!!"
I hate the term "Cultural Appropriation" - complete overkill! what on earth is wrong with appreciating some some aspects of other cultures traditions, dress. and ornamentation. Put bluntly - do you criticise the Japanese for adopting western dress and insist they should keep to the Kimono? Should Hawaiians have to continue wearing grass skirts? Should those of African origin be made to wear their tribal dress or be allowed to "culturally appropriate" western styles when they so wish. Likewise, when those from the 1st world appreciale and admire another more ancient culture, what is wrong with paying tribute to it's beauty by adopting some of it's lost traditions?
Load More Replies...We condemn the appropriation of Native American headdress at the festival event. This woman is obviously clueless in her pursuit of being something “hip”. Shame on her!
Love the sculpture and the pose of the girl. The photo has great energy and flow. I'm a bit iffy on her outfit though.
That's a steel horse.. in the sun.. hotter than hell I'd think.. but amazing picture!
What I don't get, from all the people defending their right to wear things like war bonnets, is why are you so dismissive of the fact that people from that culture say it hurts and disrespects them? What happened to your compassion and empathy? Can you really not imagine what it's like to witness an entire group of people, whose ancestors committed genocide against yours, wear your religious symbols as party favours? Can you really not?
That’s huge, isn’t it...? Looks like it’s been taken from a plane far up...
I can't decide which Jedi but definitvly Tatooine
Load More Replies...The last day in April we in Sweden we light on bonfires made by last year twigs and branches from the gardens. It’s done all over the country, just as common as easter or christmas. But they are usually just a tenth of this one!
Where's Nicholas Cage? Loved the Wicker Man. Sorry, but no sorry. I don't get offended. Neither should you.
They probably photoshopped something out of it that wasn't approved to display on the internet. Those are marks from using the clone tool.
Load More Replies...Great promotion of extended breastfeeding! The breast sole purpose of existence is to provide nutrition to our offspring and nothing more. The worldwide average for weaning is between 2-6 years old. It is only in America, and certain other countries, that we hold a stigma against breastfeeding past 1 year and that is a very sad fact. The immune system is not fully formed until about 6-7 years old, which is the natural weaning age and when we lose our "milk teeth". Breastfeeding provides antibodies to illnesses, stem cells, vitamins, Probiotics, and many other benefits we have yet to discover. Gorgeous photo of family love. First, breast feeding can and does continue in many part of the world until 5-6 years of age. Second, how can you determine the child's age? My son weighed over 10 pounds at birth (I weighed 123 going into labor) and his son weighed 11.2lbs at birth. They looked like kindergarteners by age 18 months, but they were still babies in all other aspects. Don't judge what you don't know.
I know kids that age have TEETH
Load More Replies...This is amazing. Breastmilk...the perfect medicine and nutrition for a child.
It's an inflatable.......not sure if that makes it better or worse. Either way, it's varsity level sorcery.
Load More Replies...Is that a gigant mirror ball? In the desert? In the sun? Oh geeze! I hope they waited till night befor they tried to remove it...😳
This must be a digital manipulation bc the Orb was NEVER that shiny once blown up...
that one was made by the talented Danish architect Bjark Eingels. That guy is amazing
the cart is far closer to the camera, its just the perspective messing with it
Load More Replies...Recycling metal debris into something beautiful is what Art is about. Keeps it out of the waste stream and Gives people something to ponder.
Being the mechanical sort, I would love to see this one in person. I'd want to identify all the parts and how they are intricately assembled. This is my favorite.
It took a sec befor I realized what it was...a jellyfish! Funny place to find it though! 😊
Mine too! To get married or to renew vows there must mean a very cool re look relationship at that age!
Load More Replies...Oh, a married! Well that seems to be a better place to do it than Vegas.
For a second, I thought these were his shoes. I should go home and sleep, I guess.
I thought they were stilts! Sleep for me too please :-)
Load More Replies...Maybe they are his shoes ... could be Mercury, messenger of the Gods ...
I challenge all Burning man 2019 goers to wear the most mundane outfit the can think of. Like a slightly ketchup stained t-shirt with shorts made out of old sweatpants. #burningmanchallenge
millennial's...always trying to up the game...a******s ;)

P Allen That's burning man and coachella for ya these days when everyone can be a "model" you just gotta make those posts somehow...
Load More Replies...A lot of these pictures of people are like “hey look at me!” I like costuming but when it is about the costume and the art, Not so much about the ego. Just my humble opinion.
So, Burning Man is like Halloween now? Women just slap on some lingerie and call it a costume? So much thirst, and I'm not talking about the desert. Instagram has ruined pretty much everything at this point.
I much prefer all the photos of JUST the installations without the models blocking them.
Me too! I've seen ENOUGH scantily clad women already! Even if they all do look nice.... notice how no one is fat though? Enough is enough!
Load More Replies...Love these- evocative and original in a strangely familiar fashion
That is the volcano temple. See other posts.
Load More Replies...Yarn and Small Beads make the pattern
Load More Replies...Looks like El Dia De Los Muertos art on a Dino fossile. I guess he qualifies as dead.
This is a stunning piece, one of my favorite things on playa this year. It is mosaic, by an artist from Mexico City.
This looks great! Experiencing the inside in real life must be pretty amazing
This was sunrise, the morning before it burned. 1808BurnMa...0edf68.jpg
The Temple is my favorite. When you walk in you are swept over by a wave of deep emotion, a powerful current, a physical sensation. Take time to hold space for the people who are there and to remember the beings you love who have passed from this Earthly plane. Meditate, sit in silence, listen to a reading or the singing bowls. It is a cathartic experience that changes you a little bit. You leave with your heart full. Sadness and gratitude, your heart torn open a little wider to receive and give love. It is a beautiful experience. We put up four photos this year.
Yes, is the same one. I did not mention, that the name should be written with another letter. In german it's correct that way. The Баба the Яга :)
Load More Replies...She must have JUST got there because she's not covered in a spec of dust, yet.
can't get away from religious people no matter where I go :(
If she does not put sun block on it is going to be called Burning Lady
It appears by this entire post that only beautiful people with perfect bodies are aloud to go to Burning Man
Someone did fall off this and got a ride to a hospital.
Load More Replies...I thought it was meant to be art. Not some junk yard, in the sun.
Lovely! just for info, the Australian rainbow now includes brown and black, for indigenous Australians and Torres Strait Islander.. To be more inclusive.
The natural flower and the steampunk gothic flower........metaphor for our culture for sure
See? Shade! And that was almost all people could see to get orientated until the dust settled.
I thought this compilation was _not_ about all the instagram-posing-infront-of-stuff...
cry them a river. jesus man, just ignore the people if you are jealous or whatever, it's not that hard.
Load More Replies...One first appeared at Burning Man in the late 90's. I love seeing them! It's cute when they chase each other around.
Load More Replies...He's wearing googles... maybe he's got evil squinty eyes. You don't know... might not be hot. at. all.
Load More Replies...@Roald - i do like the Yoko Oh No comment - scary witch, bad art - Cynthia was much better
Load More Replies...That red is really popping- gorgeous portrait - she has a lovely relaxed and friendly expression
So I'm thinking Burning Man is for female models in their early 20's with a liking towards spacey futuristic clothing made out of very small pieces of fabric.
Or maybe the female models in their early 20's get the most spotlight because, well, they are female models in their early 20's? I guess the media + consumers decide what people want to see.
Load More Replies...valid points people however I've seen lots of beautiful souls of all ages that don't want to be photographed. Could be this age group is just that insecure and needs to the attention?
You might die tomorrow...so live today with no regrets, no shame, and no inhibitions
Load More Replies...So uncomfortable to sleep that way when you are pregnant. They tell you not to because the weight of the baby+ cuts off circulation. They tell you to lay on your left side.
Brave to get so close to a mantis...they strike with the speed of lightning and eat the head first....
That thing is so totally awesome......the idea and the construction both.....deserves all the posts here.
Serving as a Temple Guardian for two shifts, was the major part of my Burn.
Load More Replies...This is a French company that has a parade of these telling a story, that has been touring France. They also did fantastic elephants of metal and lights that marched in a parade in Annecy at night. You'd swear they were real in size and movement.
This piece was called the Hexatron. The poles had synchronized animated LEDs in them. When you walked through them, it created the incredible illusion of staring into a hall of mirrors. In the 15 years that I have attended, this was probably my favorite piece of LED art ever.
Load More Replies...ooooh, it must have been so much fun to not hurt yourself with those poles while dancing - oh, wait! NOT.
Oh. So when they installed it the orb was a mirror, but several days in it got covered in dust. They forgot to coat the thing to avoid static electricity.
The objective of the installation might be how it changes everyday with dust, etc.
Load More Replies...If it was a mirror at one point, I wonder if anyone could have been burned by the reflection of heat...
It's a festival celebrating debauchery and rebellion against God under the guise of "freedom," "freedom" from God's laws which are actually meant to protect us (like requiring a child to wear a seatbelt). Look at all the ancient pagan religions. They are loaded with symbolism representing male and female reproductive organs which is just a category of worshipping the creation in place of the Creator, Jesus. So it's actually perfectly relevant and common, and to be expected at an occult ritual/ceremony like this.
Load More Replies...Gee, it would have been cool to see the art instead of just another boring a*s.
Now I can easily understand why the bear is smiling from happiness...
looks like a very weird woman looking for likes on Instagram
Load More Replies...The entire point of Burning Man is spontaneous. These posed photos with models is NOT Burning Man.
She looks naturally skinny, not starved, there is a big visual difference...
Load More Replies...Epic selfie! I admit, if I was there I'd be taking ridiculous amounts of images as well. The setting and atmosphere is completely alluring to my aesthetic sensibilities- I just couldn't handle the gritty accommodations. Maybe when I was 20....alas those days are gone.
Very nice use of the orb for a photo shoot..lighting is brilliant
long shadows. Maybe she just got up :) Her boots are quite dusty.
Load More Replies...This should be the poster of a cyberpunk or steampunk movie
ahhhhhh so close to being delightfully weird ..just needs some Ps tweaks but not my art...
this kind of fashion more than justifies itself in this dusty area
They're taking pictures of the sexy mostly naked girls.
Load More Replies...This was one if my favorite installations at night. The poles were fiberglass and lit from within with a variety of colors and patterns. People would sit inside the installation and watch the show. If you were lucky to be there when all the poles turned white it was like being in a hall of mirrors. Very cool experience.
Ok, cool! I think this was the same installation that I just asked about in another photo. It is really appealing... Approximately how large was the space? A room? A house? Thanx
Load More Replies...she looks like she doesn't want to be there
I wonder if this digital installation is interesting, but I can't see it :(
why do those hoses look like they're attached to his nipples? Futuristic milking machine?
OK we get it - you have a great figure -now just get out of the way
Load More Replies...And the dog was so excited he'd forgot he died...
Load More Replies...What happens when you strap your dog to the top of a camper for a trip to Burning Man...
Give it a hat, change its diaper... where you there ? I see a happy baby and isnt that enough?
IKR? People on the Internet can't wait to jump on what could possibly be "bad parenting". Kid could just have been slathered in SPF 80 right before the picture (or about to be). Could be very early morning. Could just be a _let's take 2 seconds for a pic before we wrap him up in a hat/glasses/protective gear_. Stop parent shaming and let people live their lives.
Load More Replies...I miss the Mad Max type parading. What I see now is an event to advertise BDSM clothing. Love the sculptures! Bring back the original intent of burning man.
Haha. I am not a believer in cultural appropriation for the most part but I know you were just making a joke and it wasn’t that serious. So have an upvote! To be fair though, that type of braid has been in cyber punk culture for ages and isn’t really inspired by an African style. The other stuff are pretty clear ripoffs though 😄
Load More Replies...Again, people get a clue! Cultural appropriation is not cool. Stop with the headdresses. It’s disrespectful.
And i'm asking you too, how do you know it is cultural appropriation? She could be biracial.
Load More Replies...I actually the real woman makes it - with her older and "real" physique next to the mannequins.
Load More Replies...This one I wish the people were out of the image so I could see the art. It's a bit trite but still cool.
I was kinda intimidated by the pose at first. Then I looked at his face mask.
It can get cold pretty quick at night in the desert. It's kind of shocking at times. Take it from someone stuck in a desert for 30 years.
Load More Replies...This girl doesn't have a great eye for coordinating an outfit. And looks DIY, like a Buzzfeed fail.
List would’ve been better with fewer people blocking the positive by complaining that pictures included humans, which are also a huge part of Burning Man
I’d like to see them ride those bike with Theo’s stupid boots on. That would be Art pha hah
I love the art work but burning man has changed so much that I kind of feel it is a wannabe bohemian festival now along the lines of Coachella in many ways. I am sure that there are those that keep the spirit of it alive but it seems that now it is more stylized with the costumes and poses. sad to see it happen to this event.
So its like Mad Max but with a seething hive of modern, attractive, half naked hipsters wearing goggles...I'll stay at home ;)
So where do they keep the ugly ones? Every time I see photos from Burning Man it is of 'beautiful' people wearing costumes...I have no idea what they do when they get there. Look at one another?
Obviously all the ugly people get run off the road before they get there. This post has really upset me, I thought (through no first/second hand experience) that burning man was for people to get away from modern life and embrace life and art and whatever you want. Looking at this it's full of poseurs pressuring people to look great.....
Fixed the title for you : 59+ Epic Photos of Conventionally Beautiful Skinny People From Burning Man 2018 That Prove It’s The Craziest Festival In The World
Whatever the festival used to be, it looks more like a parade for narcissists with some cool sculpture.
My thought is that it is obviously for the wealthy, and there seems to be very little except posing and pretending to have a bohemian relationship with art and nature. The lack of real people is painfully obvious also.
Once a crazy festival, now a 15 minute pit stop for celebrities and models to take a few photos and move on
