Well, yes, because transubstantiation by certificate is not a thing. How many times does it need to be said that 'single-séx' means exactly that. The 'G' in 'GRC' stands for gender, not séx.

I heard a good explanation of the nervousness a while back. How would a person feel if they were sunbathing toipless or naked in their garden, and they heard a drone above, or a noise behind the hedge. Now they can't be SURE that they are being watched. But they are uncomfortable. Your comment is excellent because it shows there are uncertainties and confusion. Even among the community. So how can a woman feel sure if the person themselves cannot be sure? The whole point of female only spaces is because they CAN be sure. That uncertainty is troubling.

The problem is that doing "everything possible" to live like a woman involves other people giving up or compromising on their own freedoms and identity to accommodate this.

Men's inner feefees do not make them any kind of woman and to say they do is absolute misogyny.

Thanks, but I think this still doesn't resolve my issue - what does "be seen as a woman" mean that doesn't include a transvestite? What does "they are a woman" actually mean - what is "a woman" that they think they are? @CP - thanks for your thoughtful response. I get that's how to deal with people, sure, but what exactly should one consider "a woman" to be? I used to talk online to a trans person many years ago, but we lost touch so I can't ask them. Whilst it's nice not to treat people as a category, that seems to be what this legislation needs people to do. Going by Rudyard Kipling's poem, one might surmise that a woman is one who loses their head when all about are keeping theirs, or treats triumph and disaster differently; or perhaps I'm just looking for something a bit more definitive than sugar and spice and all things nice.

Your very first point is wrong. Nobody is assigned a séx at birth. A newborn's séx is recorded at birth, not assigned. Séx is innate and fixed in the foetus within a few days of conception. It is no more assigned than is skin colour. You then go on to claim that 'cisgender is your assigned séx at birth'. What are you talking about? Gender and séx are totally different things and only one of them has a physical basis. You are just repeating buzz words which have been coined with the deliberate intention of creating confusion. Even the Supreme Court judge, when reading the judgement, made several mentions of the incoherence of the arguments presented by the trans advocates. 'Gender is not s*x; humans cannot change their séx.*but also* having an internal feeling of being of the opposite séx is a gender identity and is to be considered the same as being of that séx'. There is no logical consistency behind it at all. Seriously, the trans ideology is as incoherent as the explanation of the Catholic Trinity, in which the Father is not the Son, the Son is not the Spirit, and the Spirit is not the Father: but they are One and inseparable. None of it makes any sense by design because they can only try to confuse people into agreement.

The "old simplistic view" was being rather ironic - clearly that isn't, and possible wasn't ever, the case. My point was that in the old days, there was a traditional and easily visible distinction - for example men had short hair and wore suits, women wore dresses and carried handbags, and that is no longer the case. The issue is that a lot of the things you list would preclude trans women from being considered as women - I'm not aware that they have extra cones inserted or rods removed when transitioning. I'm hoping to arrive at a definition that would be acceptable to both sides of the debate.

2/ Part of the reason Rowling gets so much abuse is the way she's been mischaracterised as a "TERF" and someone who refuses to admit trans people exist, and all sorts of other malicious nonsense. She wrote a (nearly) 3700 word essay on the subject which you really ought to read if you've been taught that Rowling hates trans people. I've experienced as much trauma and abuse as Rowling (but most of it as a child), have PTSD and have ZERO issues with trans women in my space. She does not speak for all women, even those of us who were abus*d.

Look at it like this.....for a very, very long period throughout history, women were a marginalized community, were they not? Voting rights, employment protections and opportunities, athletics, a myriad of financial considerations, ...RIGHT? All things that women fought to achieve within the past century with some only coming about within the past 50 odd years. And now that's all be eroded as the idea of "trans" has become an umbrella term that lumps any biological male who is not conforming to typical gender presentation as fully equating to and deserving of the protections and hard fought rights of women....Brianna Wu (a trans woman) and Katy Jon Went (who now describes themselves as a "trans person" highlight the problems with the new movement quite clearly, and maybe coming from them more people would actually be willing to hear it.
