They say there’s no ‘I’ in ‘team’. But some people are selfish, shortsighted, and seem keen to ruin everyone’s day for their own pleasure or gain. Naturally, we call these people jerks. While unpleasant to deal with, your average, run-of-the-mill jerk isn’t usually someone to fear. Not so if they’re your boss.
Good bosses are a godsend, but bad bosses make you pray for divine intervention. Even worse than merely incompetent managers are bosses who love being jerks. Jerk bosses are by far the crème de la crème of all possible types of the species known as jerks.
Bored Panda made this list of the greatest examples of bosses acting like jerks, so you can feel a bit happier about working at your current job, in comparison. So go make yourself some popcorn, grab yourself a drink, and scroll down. Upvote your fave jerk boss stories and let us know if something similar has ever happened to you! Unless I’m wrong. I don’t think that means he took the 50 out from your check. But by law they have to disclose it to IRS. So you are going to be taxed on that 50 as income.
Load More Replies...There's nothing wrong with this. They are just showing the gift on the pay slip. Monetary gifts are liable to income tax.
Ah ok that does make more sense. I wish they would have labeled it as deductions for tax purposes to employer or something.
Load More Replies...it's for tax & income purposes. Since the company has to account for where the $%0 went they probably coded to employee benefits....so the $50 should have been added onto your next paycheck, then deducted. This was it's taxable and they don't run afoul of the IRS for non-taxed compensation. (I do payroll for my company and we have to do the same thing. We'll have little contests like "first one to close a deal" gets $25 or if 100% of your scheduled appointments show up you get $150 cash....but then I have to keep track of those figures & add/subtract them for payroll purposes on the next payday.
That's Walmart for you. My wife once got paid with her holiday pay for working a holiday.
it's says giftcard FOR Walmart.... not FROM Walmart...

Good for you. Although having this kind of conversation via text messages seems a bit childish and unprofessional.
Whilst you have every right to take vacation time, most business expect more than a few days or a weeks notice.
They do, but it is not necessary. Typically the two week notice is only if you end things on good terms.
Load More Replies..."This week"? If you always give zero advance notice, I would expect him to always say No.
maybe give your boss more notice than “this week”. most people book their vacations months in advance so they don’t inconvenience others with an increased workload due to a hasty decision like “imma just whip off this week on vacation” you know - it’s called being considerate. try it some time
Enjoy your week of vacation..... and 6 to 18 months of unemployment with no money coming in at all. You don't quit until you have a new job. Rule #1
I once quit a job when i didn't have a new one lined up because the work environment had just become toxic. It was so toxic, that when I put in my three weeks notice, they told me to stay home and they would pay me for those three weeks. Within those three weeks, I found a better job that paid over 50% more.

My Coworker Went All Wet Seal On Our Boss Today
This is pretty common. My husband works with a couple of lazy, thieving coworkers, but the boss won't fire them because he'd have to cover shifts until he could find replacements.
Load More Replies...Now, he still has an open shift to cover, and a drunk still works for him
I worked with someone who was bitten by a coworker- she had her hand out in such a way her thumb was out and he bit her thumb- and he didn't get fired. He was reported to the regional manager and was basically told 'don't bite people' and that was it. I don't think you should have to tell an adult not to bite their coworkers. He still almost got to be store manager after that incident. If it's a one time incident and she wasn't seriously injured a surprising number of companies just don't care.
I am amazed by the fact that people are quitting their job (and therefore losing their salary) in situations where they are right and should be protected by the law. This is what Unions are for. I believe this wouldn't happen so easily in Europe.
Happens in office settings too. Employee steals work, employee lies about tasks done, employee frames me (or the other target, there were two of us in a team of 10 or so) - doesn't get fired. Gets REWARDED, why? Because if she gets reprimanded/fired the 'boss' loses her bff texting buddy and then has to actually start doing work herself to pick up the slack... and has to do that "horrible thing" where she has to interview for competent employees!

Secret Recording Device Under Break Room Table At Work

One Of A Seemingly Endless Series Of Unreasonable Notes Left By My Boss. It’s Great Here
I worked in the government when I was 22. Was my first "real" job. Worked in data entry with a bunch of really lazy people. One guy spent all day on the one phone we all had to share. Boss punished is by putting a lock on the phone so no one could use it without getting the key from her. I decided that wasn't fair to the rest of us. The older people were afraid to make a fuss, couldn't afford to get fired. I was 22, has no kids etc. thought what the heck and took the issue to the union and filed a complaint. She had it remove the lock, apologize to us and make several other changes I brought up. The first time I ever stood up for myself.
OK. Mobile phone is off. Check! Work phone disconnected. Check!! Boss's last line of instructions followed to the letter. CHECK!!! Let the quiet days begin.
Then the boss should be billed for the paper, toner, internet service, and electricity it took to print his ridiculous note.
You shouldn't be on your phone at work- but I see no reason it needs to be all the way off. Just leave it in your bag/ jacket/ place you leave your personal items at work. That way if you get a 5 minute break you can check it quick and get back on the floor without waiting for it to turn on.
Tepper and his colleagues checked whether acting aggressively right back at a hostile boss would yield any positive results. Are you ready for the shocking news? No, acting like a jerk to your jerk boss doesn’t create anything of value for you, nor for anyone else. The old adage that two wrongs don’t make a right is absolutely correct. Only, in this case, two jerks don’t make a warm and supportive work environment.
Our Boss Doesn't Let Us Take Any Home!
This is a catastrophe of epic proportions, no pizza should ever have to endure such suffering
What a waste, where I am now all left over food goes into the fridge and becomes free for anyone to take home. The place I worked before where I am now used to put the leftovers in the custodial break room. Our support staff had very good moral from just that simple act of left over pizza, subs, etc from our events and meetings
I've worked in a lot of corporate kitchens and they do this so people don't intentionally make more food that is needed so that they can take the excess home. Theft is a huge problem in kitchens.
Wouldn't it be a better solution to give the leftovers to homeless people?
Load More Replies...That’s horribly wasteful. Why would you throw away almost three boxes worth of pizza. A lot of minimum wage workers can’t even afford dinner for Pete’s sake.
Its bad, but there,is sorta a legitimate reason for it. It has less to do,with employees getting sick. But if you allow mistakes and extra food to,be brought home. Soon everyone's friends and family are, being fed on all the "mistakes" and "extra"
This is the correct answer. I know a few local pizza places that would allow the employees to take home unsold pizza at the end of the night... the employees were cooking up like a dozen elaborate pizzas 5 minutes before closing time every night so it had to be stopped.
Load More Replies...Think of people who have no food and LOOK here you are throwing it in the bin }:(
It is a waste. The reasoning I've heard for some places is if an employee got sick after taking it home the restaurant could still be liable. Not sure I buy it, but it was what I was told. Seems like it's something that could be easily avoided by saying the company is not responsible for illness due to taking home leftovers or something along those lines.
That is the reasoning in Europe for the lack of "doggie bags". But it is an absolute waste. If they decide to take it, it's on them. Where is the "pizza rat" when you need him???
Load More Replies...What a total idiot to waste food like this! At least a shelter who could help so many should get it. It's an insult to throw away food, an insult to the dead animals, an insult to the hard working farmer, an insult to society and an insult to all starving people.
I stopped buying in a certain chain of supermarkets here in Spain because they have always refused to donate their leftovers to shelters or food banks. They even make the workers spray the food with ammonia or bleach so that people can't retrieve it from the rubbish bins. I think everybody should boycott the companies that behave like this. If all they care about is money, let's make them lose money. Then they will listen.

When Your Good Service Rewards Only Your Boss
In all 50 states it is illegal for employers to take any part of an employees tip, an employer may only mandate that up to a third of the tip be shared with the bus boys and cleaning staff. If they try to take any of your tip for themselves, you can report them to your local labor board for labor violations, the fines are very high and you can then take them to court after their fine
But oddly enough an employer can require you to give a percentage of your tips to other employees, such as to the bar ... I always found that strange.
Load More Replies...Illegal. Tips are "supplementing low wages", I mean $2 hr, when mandatory minimum is $10 or more. It needs to end.
Illegal if in the States. This may be in a country other than America.
Load More Replies...That's when you tip the people at a point when they can hide it. Also, I guess that means the boss has to be paying minimum wage since I thought the law was the employer has to match what employees make if it's equal to less than minimum wage.
Yes. I had always lived & worked as bartender/server in Washington state and all service workers get minimum wage plus tips. I was shocked when i went to Arkansas for year & waited tables there and found that they could pay tipped employees less than minimum wage. It was $2.36 in 2017. I did make well over to make up difference but it definitely was not fair.
Load More Replies...Many places in Australia you cannot accept money or gifts etc from patrons or customers. Some cafes, restaurants etc do have tip jars but they get shared out or put towards staff parties, lunches etc. Bit tipping is not common in Australia. The only people I tip are taxi drivers and that’s it.
In countries where the employees are paid a real salary for the work they do, there is no need to tip. In the US, I believe that in many places it is basically the other way around for service staff.
Load More Replies...This is illegal. And very much like what happened at Amy's Baking Company on Kitchen Nightmares.
I wonder how many people leave a tip. In my local pub (where the food is good and they are always busy) there is a big sign up saying ALL tips go to the staff, the owners don’t get a penny. That’s how it should be.

I see it as 'We need somebody to work temporary as manager and if he cannot return, will quit (or die) you may have it for good.' It might look bit cold but if manager will be out for month or longer, you cannot force other managers to take overtimes. Well, you can but this way you have a backup plan.

My friend has one of these in his work. Shop where he works is locaten on the very suburbs and sometimes he has like 5 customers in 3-4 hours. Despite this his boss still calls them sometimes and asks why are employeers are sitting (in theory they should stand all the time in work). They are working 10-12 hours per day.
Spying? Lots of companies have security cameras. It's "spying" if you're goofing off. Maybe you're just a bad employee

My Boss Was Deathly Serious When He Posted This. Looks Like I'm Spending Some Quality Time At Work This Year
Just because you have no life doesn't mean your employees don't!! I hate bosses like that
The issue is that SOMEONE must work the Thanksgiving shift. He is not ordering anyone in particular to work that day. I assume employees work out their own schedules. He is telling them that somebody needs to step up and take an undesirable shift, if nobody does then he'll find a new batch.

AZ, ours is so full of chlorine because the water is warm most of the year AND its from VERY hard (tons of particulate minerals) water resources. Even with a water softener (which wastes 50% of the water flowing through it), AND an R/O system (also wastes a lot of water but the taste is better) the pipes can get calcified.
Load More Replies...Not giving you water is a rights violation. You can report it and should. One of you should pass out from dehydration at work and then sue the company hard.
The Temperature My Boss Keeps The Office At
It might be so the a*****e boss has a way to keep women scantily clad while at work. Don't underestimate how low some bosses will go to be disgusting twats.
Oh I remember I used to work in such a s****y company too. No drinking water also at our disposal. All this, while the boss and his close group of managers/friends had all the benefits in the company, a comfortable working environment, fresh water, coffee et cetera. They couldn't care less. That's why you never forget working for a jerk, even years after leaving the job. 40C-5d441a...18733d.jpg

I suspect that's actually a van access aisle, for the handicap spaces. Call the cops and have it removed- along with a 2k fine.
Load More Replies...I'm in a building full of lawyers, the whole parking lot is just one massive parking fail.
I'm guessing that's a space reserved for disabled drivers (the Douchecar is probably covering the pavement markings, and the pole in front of the space probably has the sign), so if your boss is not disabled, he has a small penis.
Actually, the handicap spot is next to his car. That area is to provide disabled people with ample room to exit their vehicle.

This is a joke standard form (SF) that has circulated around the US military for years. Not sure who actually created it, it is based loosely on other SFs, but the person who got it may either be 1. a legitimate whiner (i.e., complaining about everything from the fact that the dining facility doesn't carry his/her favorite type of soda; to complaining about having to pull some crappy duty or the fact that something is broken and while he/she could fix it, they haven't cause that shouldn't be their job.) or 2. the "boss" is a legitimate jerk who thinks he/she is being funny. Without the full story, I can only guess. BTW, I used to have this hanging in my office (as a joke) when I was active duty and an NCO in the Army.
@K. LNU just read your profile that's pretty funny like your sense of humor

Which part of the army is this from? I can't believe it's not just a joke....
It is and it isn't a joke. These float around basic a good bit and have even been seen in SFAS. It has the purpose of being a joke while telling the recruits - many of them being 18 who just left the protective nest of home for the 1st time - you need to toughen up.

My Boss Ordered A Box Of 6000 Pepper Packets Instead Of A Shaker, So Now I Get To Spend My Saturday Cutting Open Packets For Our Burger Seasoning
It'd be cheaper for them to order a huge industrial sized jar of pepper. Oh not to mention smarter but we see your boss is a full crayons short of a full box.
cheaper especially if you're paying someone a day's wage to cut them open and empty the packets.
Load More Replies...Sounds like he ordered them by mistake and now has to make them usable. If you're getting paid, just deal with it, jeez.

I imagine the pepper packets were cheaper, but did your boss not consider that you are now being paid to cut them open? It's called opportunity cost - what else could you have been doing with your time/
The Six Pack Of Macarons Cost More Than Six Individual Ones. "You Weren't Supposed To Notice" Is What The Manager Working Told Me
That's why in the EU markets are obliged to show the price per 1 unit. To avoid such cases. In this particular one they would have to write 1->2.80pu, 6->3.00pu,12->2.92pu, 18->2.78pu.
The packs are all more expensive than individual. Time for employees to strongly encourage individual; maybe even ring them all up individually anyway.
I take that back. The 18 pack saves you forty cents.

Cutting down the trees and paying for removal would have to be more expensive than maintaining them.

I used to work at McDonald's and thankfully worked in a good store. But one shift I was asked to go to another store to help out - I was shocked at how bad it was and informed my manager. Me: *Dies* My Boss: "So You Comin' In?"
The snow is at least 2ft. The street is completely unplowed. So you want me to get up at 6, while it's dark out, and shovel- while there's a blizzard- just so I can go onto my unplowed street? Ha. Yeah, ok.
And while we live near each other, I live twenty minutes out of town on a private road in the county while she lives in town.
Am I the only one who find this boss pretty reasonable? At least when compared to others here?
Totally unreasonable. To suggest that they should shovel the whole street or worse...stay the night at a friends house instead of their own home...that would not fly with me.
Load More Replies...Had a similar situation. We had an overnight snowfall of 1-1.5m, and my whole municipality was cut off, buses didn't work for over a week, only rare cars would pass by. I got yelled at by my boss for calling that I can't come, he compared me to my co-worker, how could SHE come (she lived 30min away on foot on the main city street which was top priority for plowing, I lived 10km away, out of the city, part of the road didn't even have streetlight). Several days later when half of my way was so-so plowed and buses started driving until that point, I called the bosses again and said I could manage to come but if I got morning shifts (I could hitchike a ride from someone to the bus, and even if I had to walk there, it would be daylight and I wouldn't mind hiking 1.5h in one direction). Went there the next morning, only to be called (after I got there) by the boss, saying I'm the later shift (which meant I'd have to walk home at midnight, so hell no). Didn't attend work for 10 days.
I do not understand these types of bosses and never will (mine included). These request may sound reasonable to some, but unless you are an emergency responder and the roads are under 2 feet of snow, how many others are going to be out. Not to mention who is going to pay my deductible if my car is wrecked, my car and life are worth more than a job that no one is going to patron that day.
This boss is not unreasonable. When I lived in the midwest there were plenty of times where I got up at 5am to dig my way out of 2ft of snow, then drive 18 miles to work in a 2 wheel drive grocery getter. That's just what people do there.
Ive always lived in rural area so I know the "hell" a snowstorm can cause. The first storm is excusable to be late, but I think boss is reasonable to suggest the employee plan ahead especially in snow prone areas.
I recall having to dig myself out of 2 feet of snow starting at 4 in the morning to get to work by 7. It's a lot of snow, but you only need to dig your way out once to get to work for the day. You might have to do it again the next day, but that's life in places where it snows like this. If you don't like the winters there, you can find places where it does not snow so much.
Why not just sleep under your desk when there is bad weather, no commute. Lol
The boss is reasonable. Also, get up early and shovel. Shovel some the night before so it is easier in the morning. That is what i do. That is what most responsible adults do.
Is My Boss A Douchebag For Putting This Sign On His Towels In The Bathroom At His House During Our Office Christmas Party?
Seriously, it would have been easier to simply remove these towels than to type up this paper and print it.
If he's hosting a party at his home, then you are guests. It would be smarter if he just had cheap, lower-end wal-mart brand towels for the bathroom for the party, which could then be taken down when the party is over. Instead, they expect employees to use paper towels. Just like they do at the office. Crappy move.
Oh yes! 😊 I have special colored ones for decorations in both our bathrooms. I finally have my hubby trained about "those towels" 😂😂

This is actually standard practice in certain wealthy communities, to have decorative towels in the bathroom, but, also provide very high-end, almost linen-like paper towels for actual use. The rich are different in so many ways.
While I can get the issue with touching the decorative towels, they should had just removed them for the party & not put a childish note up. My husband has finally learned to not wipe his hands on "those towels" 😂

My Ex-Manager Wouldn't Give Me My Last Paycheck Without A Resignation Letter
Don't know how it is in the US, but you can't really legally quit your job without an resignation letter, right? I mean, you should still get your money, but asking for a resignation letter before you get your last paycheck isn't that unreasonable, right? (here we usually have a cancellation period of AT LEAST one month, often two or three, can't just quit your job overnight and stil expect to get paid).

We don’t know the situation, the boss could be sick, have a sick child etc. Either way the boss doesn’t have to let the employees know why they aren’t there and it’s their prerogative to work from home. The boss was kind enough telling others to be careful and to take their time. They weren’t being a jerk at all.
If you can make the choice to either come in or stay home, then you have the ability to come in to work. If you expect your employees to come in to work on a day with dangerous road conditions, you should be going in too to set an example. You, as a boss, are a leader. A leader leads by example.
The reason you work your way up to being a boss or start your own business is so that you can do s**t like this, have your own work hours.
It is also a sign of bad leadership to be that way as well. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

To be fair, maybe the training room is too small to adequately demonstrate cpr on the dummy.
This is a c**p move. If the break room has vending machines or refridgerators to keep lunches, then you are wasting part of your breaks/lunches just to go to the break room to find out that you have to go somewhere else. And, you might not even be able to use vending machines or get your lunch from the fridges. And worse, the bosses that scheduled this training couldn't be bothered to schedule it so it does not interfere with lunches/breaks? Even if the training room is too small, another solution should have been possible.
