Twitter Is Comparing The Trump Mob To The BLM Protests, And Here Are 25 Of The Most Viral Tweets
As people watched President Donald Trump's supporters storm the Capitol building in Washington, DC, they noticed a difference in how the police, media, and the whole USA, in general, reacted to it when compared to the Black Lives Matter protests last year.
So they turned to social media to point out that the demonstrations back then—which broke out across the country in response to police killings of unarmed Black people, including George Floyd and Breonna Taylor—were often met with a brutal response from law enforcement, including the use of tear gas and physical violence.

It's worth noting that the BLM protests weren't calm and friendly, too. "The protests that took place in 140 U.S. cities this spring were mostly peaceful, but the arson, vandalism, and looting that did occur will result in at least $1 billion to $2 billion of paid insurance claims — eclipsing the record set in Los Angeles in 1992 after the acquittal of the police officers who brutalized Rodney King," Axios writes.
They got these numbers from a company called Property Claim Services (PCS) that has tracked insurance claims related to civil disorder since 1950. It classifies anything over $25 million in insured losses as a "catastrophe," and reports that the 2020 unrest (from May 26 to June 8) will cost the insurance industry far more than any prior one.
Plus, the protests related to George Floyd's death are also different because they are so widespread.
An informal article by Forbes shows that there were at least 19 reported deaths during this period as well.
Right wingers should be forever barred from using the term "Personal Responsibility" against people they don't ever again. There is no denying that the garbage who support Trump and Trump himself is responsible for this sedition. Yet wing nuts won't just own their own behavior and actions. Instead they try to blame anyone else. Right now they're claiming it's "antifa" who pulled some kind of false flag operation. If they believed their own bullshit they would be calling for mass arrests of those involved. As usual wing nuts can't even make up their minds. When confronted with the fact that these criminals are Trump supporters they call them "patriots". When they see how much Americans disapprove of what they did suddenly they aren't Trump Supporting Patriots any more, but they're "antifa".
President-elect Joe Biden described Wednesday's events as "one of the darkest days in the history of our nation" and blamed President Trump for stoking violence. He added it was "totally unacceptable" police had shown more leniency than in Black Lives Matter protests last year.
Washington DC's top prosecutor has not ruled out the possibility that President Trump himself could be investigated over the Capitol riot.
The acting attorney general for the District of Columbia, Michael Sherwin, said "all actors" will be looked at.
When asked if this included Trump, Sherwin responded: "We're looking at all actors here and anyone that had a role and, if the evidence fits the elements of the crime, they’re going to be charged."
The president had urged his supporters at a rally outside the White House to march on Congress while pushing unfounded claims of electoral fraud, however, when events began to spiral out of control, he asked them to "remain peaceful".
Rep. Adam Kinzinger, a Republican from Illinois, called the breach of the U.S. Capitol by Pro-Trump protesters "a coup attempt."
The other day I had a comment ending with "The older I get, the more I hate the USA" and people went nuts in the comments saying if I'm in the US, I should leave and if I'm not, I should never come... a day later, vindication. I'm pretty sure If I wait another 2 weeks, there will be more deaths
If the women in the scarves did what the terrorists did, imagine how conservatives would react.
Trump has NEVER cared for anyone or anything but himself and whatever benefits him personally... I'm sure I am not the only person to have sussed this out a long, long time ago?
It breaks my heart that it is the twenty first century and some people are still having to defend their rights while others are using their white privilege to get away with horrific crimes
These are the white supremacists last cries before dying a quiet death. This shît is on the way out because we are pushing it out. Keep pushing.
Fighting for the right to live without fear of being shot by the police because the cop had a bad day is obviously more threatening to the democracy than storming, looting and damaging the center and symbol of democracy.
That guy in the suit in the MAGA rioters pic looks like security services... not securing much of anything.
The reason why is because our douchebag president didn't want to stop them because they were his supporters, it shows he only does good to the people who supports him. There was this show I watched on Netflix called "When They See Us", About 4 boys going to jail (1 did actually go to jail, the others went to a juvenile center) for a crime they did not commit. They were convicted of rape and murder. Donald Trump said that they should be put on the death penalty. SMH, really you are putting teenagers on the death penalty for a crime they did not commit. I can go on and on about what Trump caused in the U.S. But Trump Americans are showing their true colors. If it was black or other heritage protesters, there would have been a deadly shooting.
This states the obvious that quite a few police sided with the Trump “protesters”. Secret Service had to be rearranged so that President Elect Biden had the same Secret Service men he had when he was Vice President because the alliances of the ones protecting Trump were questionable.
Wouldn't try that at a museum... seems the art works at Capitol Hill aren't worthy of protection.
If they tried to take one of the statues, I bet the special forces/police would help them carry it out
Some of those that work forces are the same that burn crosses. Corny comment but it’s true, and there’s not a lot else to say about this. When half the cops are racists and most racists support treason / sedition / terrorism, this is what you get. Notable: a cop died. Where you at, Blue Lives Matter? White nationalists are trash and people who try to rationalize or find middle ground with white nationalists are trash too. Reality.
We all know that the BLM protests were not only peaceful: They cost more than 20 lives.
What America is suffering from is a severe case of polarisation, and social media has made it worse. Social media has been a key culprit in spreading misinformation, leading people down rabbit holes of conspiracy theories and lies. The country's dumb 2 party system, and an unhealthy obsession with a rigid, centuries old constitution has also decelerated efforts towards bringing about real social change. Also, yelling at each other online is clearly not helping, focus your efforts on something worthwhile.
And after a while I realize how easy it is to spot Trump supporters in the comments. No matter who they say they are (which is probably not true) and which reasons they use, they will always swear a lot and insult other people. Obvious signs but FYI.
In both protests, peaceful protest is legal and should be protected. When it turns to looting, violence, and rioting, it is illegal, morally wrong, and unjustifiable, no matter the cause. In both cases, MOST protesters were peaceful, but it was a minority that decided to take the turn for worst. As for inequality, freedom for all or there is freedom for none. Every citizen should be able to exercise their right to peacefully protest, even if you personally do not support the cause behind it.
And the karens whine in the comments to pretend to justify the trump-punks...
It took about 30 minutes in either protest for mobs to be contained and arrested. Anyone remember Lafayette Square?
I've always said the US is a third world country... They added the last piece to complete the full set.
funny to see that pro trump call others Communist. like we are back in the 50's... i wish... we didn't see that s**t in the 50's. people behave much better in that time. and when they protest that was for a f*****g good reason... not because they think it's unfair to loose
So I suppose the riots & looting committed by BLM after the George Floyd case will not be put into comparison because it doesn’t fit the narrative...
Why does everyone keep insisting that all of the protests post-Floyd last year were BLM protests??!! Did we need a Black Lives Matter movement to tell us that Floyd was horribly murdered?! No, we did not. If there had never been a BLM, we would have been outraged and traumatized by watching that video. Many people went out to protest not even thinking one minute about the BLM movement or group. A MAN was murdered by the police in cold blood. Also, there are many videos of actual BLM supports trying to STOP the rioterss and looters. That isn't to say that some of it wasn't due to BLM in general, but not all of it.
The point that's lost among Americans: It doesn't matter which side you're on, BOTH did something wrong. NEITHER will own it. Both are only concerned with spreading their own views and being right. It's like you actually enjoy hating people who don't agree with you. The level of intolerance on both sides is disgusting.
Wasn't one of the Trump rioters shot in the chest? I think articles like this are part of the problem. BLM had rioters and peaceful protesters. I imagine Trump had some of both too. Both protests had police overreacting and under-reacting. Websites post the photos that further their narrative, and everyone seeks out the narrative that fits their world-view. And we grow more divided, more hateful, and crazy people feel more justified in their criminal and evil behavior. But this article contributes to that cycle, doesn't it?
what a surprise, the USA is a racist country? wow...who would have thought.
Hey, pandas that aren't American (states)..... can we join you? We're scared and disappointed at our country right now.
Maybe they learned from their mistakes since the BLM protests... HAHAHAHA, Not. Definitely systemic racism at play here.
Soooo, are we going to ignore the fact that the biggest difference here is one group supports the police, and the other actively and openly hates them and targets them?
Okay I don't care if I get downvoted for this I just want to share my thoughts. I AM SO FOR BLM's PEACEFUL protests (and peaceful protests in general) and strongly believe in fighting racism peacefully. It was absolutely beautiful and inspiring and change that was greatly needed. But, I just can't turn a blind eye to the pain and destruction of the riots (burning down buildings, breaking into police cars,...) and I would have liked to see representation of that... just to be more honest... Idk... what happened with the terrorists storming the capital building was COMPLETELY unacceptable and I completely understand that BLM was different because it was actually for a good, moral cause-But BLM riots caused harm too. And shamed Tons of police for just a percentages mistakes. I don't mean to offend anyone or any of that crap... just would like some more representation. :)
you know it's interesting because I was just watching Avatar the last Air-bender and it got to that one episode where Zuko confronts his father & while reading this artical & just looking around really I cant help but have his words play in the back of my head, (this might not be 100% accurate to the show) 'I was raised told that the fire nation was so great and that the war was our way of sharing that greatness. but now I see that that was a lie, the rest of the world is terrified of us.' the Amarican education system likes to boast about how they ended there own slavery and how we still stick to our first constitution. all the thing there proud of but really it's disgusting how those thing happened in the first place. history is being made right now all around me and i must i am conflicted, America's corrupted karma and true nature are finally show and while i am glad it's being dealt with it's really not happening fast enough or properly. It's really not as great as it boasts. idk
Whenever I see things like this I get sick to my stomach and lose all hope for this country. Before Trump took office I thought we were well on our way out of racism with only a small percentage of uneducated idiots left. I no longer have any hope we will ever get past this stupidity of believing humans are different/inferior/dangerous just because they don't look like us. Or because "They aren't from around here."
As usual, media switches the portrayal of whats really going on. BLM and Antifa burned down building, shops, reeked havoc in neighbourhoods, 36 people died
Man white folks sure love having a hissy fit when they don't get their way. Whether it's a Trump supporter or a "Karen", having a tantrum and pouty like a little child.
You want to know what's happening all around the world? 2 Timothy 3. "But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—"... (It's not going to get better)
You can post 1000 articles if you like and you can fool a few people but the whole world didn't forget burning cities for months and harassing and killing people for months.I am not from the USA and i have seen a person getting murdered on the streets and people were cheering.I have seen cities that burn and i have seen people and even animals getting harassed. All in the name of BLM.And now you try to cover it with "it is ok when we do it"?That is the lowest you can get.Rip to all people who died, who got harassed and who were looted. No matter what side...
BP why do you include the pictures of BLM protest from DC in the last year of cars and business on fire , random people on the streets getting attacked and the buildings broken into with graffiti plastered all over them . Show the real side of it not just the side you want.
