50 Times Celebs And Public Figures Proved That They’re Completely Out Of Touch With Reality
Having deep empathy for others, understanding what they’re going through, and giving them the support that they need is what sets apart a caring person from someone who might be more interested in their own gain. It’s the same no matter if we’re part of the 1% or living from paycheck to paycheck.
Celebrities and the rich are no different from us when it comes to questions of altruism. You have your deeply caring stars like Keanu Reeves and Tom Hanks on one side of the spectrum and slightly less empathetic public figures on the other end. Sometimes, though, people become so fed up with just how out-of-touch some celebs and the rich are with reality, they can’t help but call them out on social media.
Bored Panda has compiled this list of the most brazen examples of the rich and stars getting called out for their behavior to show you that wealth and prestige can’t always buy you a heart. Upvote the posts that you agree with and let us know who you personally find to be the kindest vs. most out-of-touch celebs out there, dear Pandas.
To be fair, though, nobody’s saying that all rich people are 'evil' or that all celebs are egoistic. Most are decent human beings. There just happens to be a handful who aren’t as friendly and philanthropic as their fans would like. I reached out to have a chat about out-of-touch celebrities with entertainment expert Mike Sington, from LA. Mike told Bored Panda that one thing that stars should keep in mind if they want to be more relatable is to avoid showing off their riches.
"If celebrities want to be more in touch with their fans, don’t flaunt your wealth! We know you’re often wealthy, but it does nothing for our self-esteem to see constant photos of the material goods you possess, your huge houses, or exotic vacations," he said. You'll find my full interview with Mike below.

Celebrity expert Mike noted that it's up to the wealthy to decide how much they want to help others. "You’ll find the wealthiest are often giving much of their money away because they want to, and they truly care. It’s something you don’t often hear about, because they’re doing it with the best intentions, not to impress others or promote themselves," he explained to Bored Panda that the reality is different from what we presume.
What's more, despite these positive acts of philanthropy, the rich often get blamed for 'not doing enough' and supposedly 'hoarding' their wealth. "People often focus on the negatives with well-known people, because it provides them with entertainment to knock someone down. I believe there’s often jealousy involved, too. It’s usually more unaccomplished people, hiding behind a screen, that look at taking down a celebrity as 'sport,' Mike said.

Celebrity, pop culture, and entertainment expert Mike previously told me all about what stars are really like when you meet them in person. He’s met hundreds of stars during his career in Hollywood that has spanned decades, and he found that the vast majority of celebs are friendly, gracious, and kind.
“Don’t be afraid to meet a celebrity! The majority are smart business people, and they realize their fans who watch their TV shows, stream their music, and buy tickets to movies and concerts, are paying their salaries. They want to be nice to you!” Mike told Bored Panda earlier that there’s a practical aspect to being nice to everyone as well. Though most stars are truly genuine.

“In my experience, the one constant I’ve noticed is the bigger the star, the nicer the celebrity. The established stars have it down and understand the importance of the celebrity/fan relationship,” the expert explained.
Usually, the biggest troublemakers and mavericks are those who are new to the scene and to their popularity. “You usually only have a problem with the newer, up-and-coming stars. They at times don’t get it and may think they’re too good to interact with you. This attitude often backfires, and they realize if they want longevity, it’s actually not that hard to be nice.”

Hollywood’s Ultimate Insider Mike added that celebrities always have to be aware of how they act. They’re _always_ in the public eye, even when they think they’re not. Because nearly everyone has a smartphone in their pocket, stars need to be more aware of the fact that they’re always ‘on display’ than ever.
“It does take some conscious effort on the celebrity’s part to be nice, just knowing every interaction, and everything they’re doing in public can be recorded. For some celebrities, in fact, I’d say most celebrities, being nice comes naturally. It doesn’t take any special effort, because it’s who they are as a person,” Mike said.

Lease Your Very Own Human!
This is very sad because giving prisoners the option of having paid jobs and learn new trades could be a great way of rehabilitating people and avoid that they become poor and resort to crime again after prison. But of course instead it just became a way of exploiting people for profit
There is so much wrong with the prison system. 1. We need to end private prisons. 2. We need to expect prisons to prevent recidivision and close those that don't. 3. We need to allow inmates to create community (a support system) w people outside of prison without charging them enormous phone rates. 4. We need to give a damn and fund our prisons properly. 5. We need to stop years long sentences for petty offensives. 6. We need to end cash bail. 7. We need to provide the option of prisoners learning actual life skills, if they want to. 8. We need businesses to pay prisoners well enough for their labor that they can actually pay restitution, court fines, child support, and save up money for their parole costs. 9. We need to help parolees actually get a job, instead of freeing them and immediately saddling them with the cost of their own ankle monitoring, drug testing, etc. There's A LOT that needs to be fixed in the prison system and few people even know.
Load More Replies...Watch the documentary 13th. It’s completely immoral and wrong, but it’s in the constitution
The 13th Amendment to the constitution abolished slavery and involuntary servitude, EXCEPT as punishment for a crime. Though the Amendment abolished slavery throughout the United States, some African Americans, particularly in the South, were subjected to other forms of involuntary labor, such as under the "Black Codes," as well as subjected to white supremacist violence, and selective enforcement of statutes. Privatized prisons have entered into very sweet deals with states that allows them to charge prisoners for their incarceration, have no minimum standards for food or medical care, and encourages mistreatment of prisoners who refuse to work.
What the F**K!? You can be damned sure that white boys led the charge on this one.
You would have a hard time convincing prisoners that they are slaves. Especially when they get a chance to work outside the prison walls and earn money.
They're the ones who shot themselves in the foot. They were so eager for strict immigration laws so them illegal aliens wouldn't be coming to their "murica, they didn't have teams of immigrants going from farm to farm to do their veggie/fruit/nut picking. Lots of produce died on the vine for a couple of years.
SO MANY PROBLEMS ON BOTH SIDES!!! No, anti-immigration policies are NOT leading prisons to lease convicts as field laborers; the presumption of the state governments that farmers have a right to terrifyingly poorly paid workers is doing that. Paid laborers should never be forced to compete with prisoners for wages because that destroys the entire concept of a free market which is just because it allows competition for laborers to raise wages to the economic value of the labor; both massive, uncontrolled immigration and prison labor prevent this. But prisoners aren't slaves; they lost their freedom by committing crimes. Slaves are sold INTO slavery.
The actual article explains why this practice is so bad.
Load More Replies...You know they cannot force prisoners to work? they must volunteer for it, and yes 90% of the money goes into the prison system to offset the costs of the prisoners, but they get some as well as better treatment than the other prisoners. This isnt how it is being portrayed
No, that differs by state. There are absolutely some prison programs where prisoners are forced to work or get punishment up to solitary confinement. Angola Prison in Louisiana is a notable example. There are also many examples in Arkansas, Arizona... The list goes on.
Load More Replies...Hey people of the United States of America, you should really check your Constitution, it's not as good as you think. Article 13 (the 13th Amendment) 'Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, EXCEPT as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted...' So... yeah, slavery IS still legal in the US.
I think you need to understand what being in prison is all about before crowing about how prison isn't enough of a punishment. How would YOU feel having every last little freedom you enjoy being taken from you? Would you want to be locked away and not be able to leave? To not eat what you want, have a glass of wine when you'd like, not sleep as late as you like in your own bed, not have your pet by your side, not be able to spend time with your friends and family doing nice things? To not have access to ANY the things and daily routines that make you happy and comfortable? To be locked in with people that you wouldn't even want to speak to, to be told what to do and when to do it? To be at the mercy of guards that may or may not have ulterior reasons for working in a woman's prison? You think about that, about the complete loss of your freedom and being taken OUT of society, before talking about how being locked away from society isn't enough of a punishment. It is. Prison is a hell.

If people are going to be keyboard warriors and fight for the left (free education, raise minimum wage, affordable healthcare, etc ), then it's EXTREMELY important to be thorough in responses and reading the initial post or tweet. When someone takes an Onion headline seriously and goes off on a rant about satire, it really makes our liberal side look bad, as if typed in red.
