Whoever is responsible for carpeted bathrooms, flights of stairs leading nowhere, butterfly toilet seat covers, and other disaster design choices should be punished for such crimes. There’s plenty of proof of their misdeeds as well, since a lot of these ''wonders'' end up showcased online. Home listing sites are some of the best places to look for the creme de la creme of design atrocities.

Take a look at Zillow, for instance. It presents real estate listings, most of which might make you want to move houses straight away. However, some feature design choices that are excellent examples of what not to do in your own home. They became sources for two grand collections on Instagram—Nightmare on Zillow Street and Zillow Fails.

Bored Panda has reached out to the two accounts via Instagram. Nightmare on Zillow Street were kind enough to answer a few of our questions. Scroll down to find their thoughts below.

Looking for a new house is not the only reason for browsing real estate listings. Sometimes it’s a great place to find home improvement ideas or vice versa—examples of things you would never do to your beloved nest.

The creator of Nightmare on Zillow Street shared with Bored Panda why they chose to post the latter type of designs on their Instagram account: “It seems to me that people are mostly interested in really bad decor choices more than the actual design of the home. It's all about the shock value! It's fun to laugh. That's what people need more of in their lives!”

The creative mind behind the account admitted to being addicted to Zillow and looking at homes. “Sometimes I see things that I just HAVE to share with the world. Things so bad or shocking that I can't keep it to myself.”

“It always boggles my mind that sellers don't understand the importance of putting together a place that elicits a warm, cozy atmosphere that buyers would want to invest in. And hopefully pay top dollar!” they said.

Would you be tempted to buy a home that embodies bad taste in every room? Because I have an offer for you.

Sadly, not everyone has an eye for detail and impeccable taste in home design. Moreover, not everyone’s ideas make as much sense in real life as they might in their heads. And these pictures are great proof of that.

That is why it might be a good idea to turn to professionals for help. Thankfully, there are nearly 44 thousand of them in the US alone, which provides hope for people willing to invest in the design of their home.

Creating a cozy atmosphere is important not only for the sellers trying to allure a potential buyer. People building their home from the ground up usually also want to make it a comfortable place for them to stay. Especially considering that they spend more than half of their time awake at home.

Nowadays it is easier for people to make decisions about certain design choices. The abundance of different tools, apps, and software allows them to see what their home might look like without having to wait for the actual paint to dry. (Using an app for some of the design features on this list before making them happen would definitely have come in handy.)

I have a toilet like this downstairs. It's because the plumbing needed to be higher than the septic tank, otherwise there would be backflow.

Toilets need to be raised when installed in basements.

And people wonder why there are so many slip and falls in bathrooms! Can't believe homeowners insurance wouldn't veto this design.

I bet they did this to connect the plumbing to the 3" clean out. So they added problems for you

Bet this is a basement. The elevation makes room for the necessary piping. My childhood home had one for that reason.

Am I the only one who finds the cane railing spooky? Definitely stolen from the original owner's murder victims.
