Online dating safety expert Chris Dietzel told Besedo that the biggest issue is that many people don't realize how damaging unwanted behavior can be. The boundaries for inappropriate behavior are not very strict in our modern society, he says.
"A lot of the inappropriate behaviors and sexual advances many condemn in offline environments – such as in the workplace or in social settings – aren’t always deemed as serious or damaging or problematic in a digital context,” he told Besedo.

Most companies only have Terms & Conditions, but they only apply to behaviors between the app and the users. Once a guy got mad at me because after some polite interaction in Messenger (he approched me, I didn't know him) I told him that I was busy working so could not reply immediately all the time. When I was single and living alone I had internet via a dongle and it aparently had a phone number attached? Well, at some point I started getting these text messages on my computer which was really weird to me since I didn't know that there was that extra phone number. Anyways, this dude saw me entering my home one day and decided to look me up online and he found the number for my dongle. Luckily not my *actual* phone number. So he started texting it hoping for a date with me. I asked him different info and also got a pic of him before I told him straight out that I was hella freaked out by the whole thing. All the info I got of him got posted on livejournal (yup, it was that long ago) because I was very active there. I told my friends there that if I suddenly went missing or something, that they should lead the police in that guy's direction. The guy lived less than 5min away from me which made me extremely anxious about leaving my house for a while.
