That's not a design fail, that's actually really good alignment. They made a curved bump up soffit in the ceiling the exact size of the fan blades and put the electrical box in the center so that the fan would be higher than the ceiling. Now the downside is that it probably isn't as efficient at moving air around the room, you end up with a pocket that has more fan than the rest of the room does. But it looks really cool.

The only problem I see here is the poster's inability to understand that the ground floor is below the entrance level.

What makes this even better in my opinion is the fact that it's called a killer whale, but it's actually a dolphin. So if I were writing this card I would have written dolphin on it, and that would have really confused some little kid, but we've been accurate.
