It's impressive how consistent practice over some period of time can improve our skills. This applies to various kinds of things, but today, we'd like to focus on artistic growth. The Reddit community ‘Art Progress Pics’ allows artists to show their work and prove how hard work pays back. The members share the photos of their works and compare how they looked when they were starting, and how they got better after they invested some time and persistently practiced to master their skills.

Scroll down to see the most recent selection of posts shared on the subreddit, and please let us know in the comment section which one of them has impressed you the most.

who's to say a doctor can't be an artist too? jokes aside, I'm serious about one thing: you don't have to be a professional artist to be considered an artist. I am a hobbyist artist and I draw about once a week to once a month. don't be discouraged by art! it's only hard to get into if you're self critical and hesitant!

See I like this kind of progress photo but I also hate it. That first picture is amazing as well, and that second photo is even more incredible, but I wish the first one said how long they'd be drawing beforehand for so as not to discourage the newbies!

Bored Panda got in touch with Ba Pham, the artist behind Art Wind's Instagram profile. The digital creator, based in Vietnam, is dedicated to character design, and you can admire the evolution of Ba Pham’s art featured in our list.

We wanted to find out more about the artist’s background, and we learned that: “My artistic background is mainly self-study and self-training. I took some online courses to learn the basics. I was intrigued when I saw the device. I started drawing other artists' character designs, and from there I started designing the characters.”

The second one is amazing. But sometimes a portrait that is not 'picture perfect' captures so much more than just the true reflection.

Character design often involves developing unique and relatable personas. We were wondering how the creator of Art Wind approaches the process of creating a character from scratch. The artist shared with us: “The main elements in character design are the character's shape, posture, origin, and personality, those are the main elements that I care about in character design.”

Character design can be challenging and this is why we were curious if Ba Pham recalls working on some particularly difficult project or character design. We found out that: “I encountered a lot of difficulties when I first designed a character for a client because the way you design a character for yourself will be different from the way the customer asks you to design a character for them, so I encountered a lot of difficulties in the design process. So I researched a lot to be able to design a character that matched the customer's requirements.”

LOTS of exercise along with the meds helped me. No super processed foods, junk foods, etc. without the exercise and meds the only thing that helped was 3:1 keto. The first thing I did in the morning was run 3k and it was the last thing I did before bed. If I was starting to feel worn out I’d do bodyweight workouts at night. I was doing yoga in the middle of the day. I was also on a high-ish dose of Concerta. Only time I was functional.

I find that having adhd, is the source of my creativity, I never run out of ideas! It just learning to pick one that's hard lol, and having discipline to finish what I started. I am 72, it gets better as you age.

Lastly, asked how the artist’s style and technique evolved over time, Ba Pham answered: “My style has evolved a lot over time as well as I have changed a lot of styles from realistic to animation, I have set myself a workout routine every day, I practice regularly and don't miss a day, so my art has become better in the past 2 years. In my opinion, to be able to develop your art better and faster, you need to learn the basics and fundamentals. Artistic foundation plus practice, process and perseverance.”

No, it's the eyes, you get one looking great and you move on the the other one and you can't get it to look right, so next time you try to do them at the same time but they still don't look right... I need more practice with eyes.

You can still see places where they need improvement though. The one I noticed right off the bat is the palm is too short. If you look at your own hand, your middle finger should be right around the same length as the height of your palm. This one, the palm is too short, making the fingers look a bit fat and way too long when they're actually fine. I know there's some other minor details my brain is picking up on, but I can't put it down into words lol

I love how the emotion is portrayed in the right one, it seems more sad and trapped alone with himself, compared to the right where he looks like he is begging for help

I assume they’re going for a carrot looking outfit and it’s not just my mind. They have a leaf detail on the end so it’s clearly plant inspired. 🥕

I love seeing merfolk, both are incredible but that is definitely a lot of improvement.

The pose is a little more dynamic in the first one, but definately improvement in the details!

There’s a lot I prefer about the earlier picture - the arms are in more interesting positions (whilst the new picture has them all straight). And I prefer a more solid hair style with more deep colour and contrast. But the face in the new picture is improved and so is the arm belt.

I assume these pictures are reversed - left is now, right is earlier. The right picture has no shape to their legs and flat shoes, etc. The left picture has improved angles and details.
