To put it mildly, millennials (and to some extent Gen X and Gen Z) aren't fond of baby boomers. Boomers hogged the economy and the world’s resources, we say, and they have no regard for what future generations will inherit.
But when Reddit user u/coolfreeusername asked the question, "Non-boomers ... , what's your most boomer opinion?" it led to a pretty awesome discovery. Turns out, younger generations and baby boomers share quite a few thoughts. Here are some of them.

Very true. Some people genuinely don't believe something happened if you don't post it and brag about it. I had that situation with people convincing me that I didn't accomplish something just because they didn't see photos on social networks and therefore concluded beyond any doubt that the event never occured. The paper proof was not sufficient.
I don't want my damn refrigerator connected to the internet. It has one job.
Just because we have access to instant communication doesn't mean I'm obligated to message you back immediately.
I don't think that it's related to one generation. I know very old people, old, middle aged, young, teenagers that only check once or twice a day. And other people from different ages who are always wanting to answer or write immediately. For example, my father and my mother do opposite, and my two sisters, too.
Just because I disagree with your opinion doesn't mean I hate you, I don't need to agree with everything just to be politically correct. You can still disagree and be cordial. We seem to have forgotten that.
Social Media was a mistake. I genuinely think that it is single-handedly one of if not the most damaging thing to the world that's happened in the past however many years.
No one wants to listen to your music. Turn it down/ roll up your windows, or better yet... both.
No one thinks your loud car/motorcycle is cool. Drive like a normal human being around town. If you want to drive fast, get some track days.

Children are so coddled and over protected nowadays. Bring back the playgrounds of yesteryear where the monkey bars were sky high and the merry-go-round could go mach 5. If the little f***ers fall and get a bruise, they'll know not to be a dumbass next time (an invaluable life lesson). Teach them how to responsibly handle dangerous objects like knives and garden tools. The way we're raising children today is one of the main reasons we have so many stupid ass adults with no valuable life skills and a god complex cuz they think their actions don't effect them

I hate how literally everything these days has a stupid app that you need to have in order to use it. Everything from kids toys to freakin cars needs some sort of crappy app these days. Why!? What if you plan on having this item for a long while and the app either gets deleted, gets malware, or just doesn't function due to the company not updating it? You would have to throw it out causing more waste in this world. This is planned obsolescence just disguised as being technologically advanced.
Also, new power adapters with EVERYTHING, without even asking, so all those lovely polluting circuit boards inside end up in landfill!

We don’t all work 9a-5p, M-F. My husband starts work at 3am, so goes to bed about 6pm. I had a later bedtime when I was a toddler. I also worked a graveyard shift fir a couple years when I was younger, so would sleep during the day. Whatever time you need to, want to, or have to go to bed is your business, and everyone else can just STFU!
I get up at 5:45 or 6 during the school year, to get the kids going. Sometimes I'm in bed by 8:30.
Everyone has a different sleep schedule. I'm a night owl myself, but still manage to get enough sleep.
Furthermore, the older you get the nicer it is to catch up on all those naps you avoided when you were two years old.
And so is a 3am bedtime. We don't live in a farming society anymore, people work all 24 hours of the day

LPT: I tell folks i go to bed at 1900. Why? *Most* folks will respect that if they text/call and I don't answer immediately, I have a valid excuse: I was sleeping. *And* it gives me 2+ hour window to unwind from people.
That's when I go to bed. Mind, I wake up at 4am to get ready for work.
Most people I know go to bed around 9 or 9.30 and so do I (I'm 31)
Sure, but I wan't to go to bed at 2 am and get up at 10, but society won't let me, because it's made for morning people.
If you get up at 10, you start at 11 and have to work til 7.30, home at 8.30 or later, cook. I was allowed to do it if I wanted to, but no thanks.

I follow subs on tiktok that are informational the animal videos and some comedic ones and people that make miniatures some cooking ones that are aged 35-to i think the oldest man I follow is in his 80s. I don't ever see anyone dancing or any of the people that are considered famous

People use their phones too much, particularly for texting and social media. Getting upset because your girlfriend/boyfriend hasn't texted you back for a few hours, or hasn't liked your photo, is so unhealthy.
Being on time for casual social events matters.
I generally agree, but it depends on what's standard for your group of friends. For casual get-togethers at my house, my good friends always show up 15 minutes late. That's because they know I'm running around trying to make everything perfect right up to the last minute, and that 15 minutes gives me a chance to sit down and relax for a moment. On the other hand, we invited a couple for dinner a few weeks ago, and they were more than an hour late (with no text, phone call, or apology). I was really annoyed, but they apparently thought it was pretty standard practice. Maybe in their circle of friends it is.
Sending out thank you notes when you receive a gift from someone. My mom was always big on that and I understand why. I bought an expensive gift for my friends birthday and she never messaged me or said thank you for the gift. Saying thank you isn’t that hard and it means a lot to the person.
Cancel culture is stupid. Everyone is stupid when they're young and dumb. You make bad decisions sometimes and the you you are today isn't necessarily the you that you used to be. Social media should have a 7 year mandatory erase period. Any tweet or fb post or whatever disappears after 7 years permanently.
Our society is wayyyyyyy too materialistic. Most people can't go one year without "upgrading" their phone or buying the latest and greatest GPU. Your last year's model will work just fine.

A culture of immediate gratification and excess of creature comforts begets a spoiled population. There's something to be said for the character that can be built through patience and powering through adversity.
I agree about instant gratification and the importance of patience and hard work, but I also think it's important to separate that from this kind of messed up idea western culture has that suffering makes you a better person. There's a difference between instant access to luxury items vs to necessary resources (affordable food, water, shelter, healthcare, and in this day and age, internet. To clarify, I'm not saying everyone needs social media, I'm saying it is nearly impossible to go to school or work today without access to online resources.)

People are way too overprotective of kids these days. It's making for anxious adults who aren't confident in their own abilities.
I grew up underneath a helicopter parent, who was WAY too overprotective. I have to actively force myself to not be that way with my kids. Which, maybe I've swung too far in the opposite direction, but I really want my kids to do things on their own and not be 18 years old on the highway having a panic attack because they don't know what to do with a flat tire (not my finest moment).
I also want to be able to freakin leave my kids in the car for TWO MINUTES while I step inside the gas station to pay for my gas when the card reader outside is down. To me, it's not worth the damned hassle to get both kids out of the car, herd them inside, make sure they keep their sticky fingers to themselves just to pay for gas. I always end up going to a different station if that's the case.
I remember being 8 years old, bored in the grocery store and given my mom's keys to sit in the car and read. Can't do that today, it's child abuse via neglect. Like, come on.
I don't do this things, not because it makes my kids safer, but because it lessens the chance that I'll be investigated for something that I don't think is inherently wrong.

Your life's main focus shouldn't be just about going viral and getting likes on social media. Put your phone down and do something better with your life.
I think the problem is many people crave attention, and doing something ridiculous is the shortest path to get there. I sat down and made two 'good' youtube videos a few years ago. I had no interest in becoming well-known for no reason. I wanted to convey information. A 'like' because you've actually helped convey information to someone is worth 1000x more than a 'like' because you've just entertained someone for a few seconds.
Not everything has to be inclusive of everybody.
it depends on context. public spaces should be accessible to people in wheelchairs or any other disability, but there’s nothing wrong with not inviting someone to brunch because you don’t want to see them.

Absolutely everything is disposable nowadays. Nothing is made to last anymore. If you find something you like, it'll be worn out in a year and probably not made anymore when you want to buy a replacement.
It's the absolute worst with clothes and kid's toys. With kid's toys, by giving them such disposable toys, it discourages them from being nice with and taking care of their possessions. Why does it matter when it's going to get worn out so quickly and they'll be bought a replacement. I also think it's a shame that these kids won't have their toys to pass on to their own children because it couldn't last.
Fun fact: Jeans originally became so popular because of their durability and affordability. They really appealed to the working-class man whose clothes were constantly getting worn out and didn't have the money to constantly spend on new clothes. Now if you want a pair of jeans of that quality, it's $60+ dollars.

Tattoos are amazing (I have 9) but I agree that ink is art best displayed below the neck. The only exception I can think of is the nape of the neck.
That girls online showing off their bodies to get views isn't a good thing. So many do it. If u just sign up for TikTok for example, it is initially and automatically full of videos of girls showing off their bodies. U gotta keep avoiding those to get it off your fyp. And all of their dances they try and sexualize themselves so people keep watching. I'm 19 btw.
Stop being on your phone while you are talking to someone!
It is so annoying and rude. I feel like people can't even have a conversation that lasts longer than 5 minutes without staring at their phone.
As soon as someone starts looking at their phone while having a conversation, I'm not interested in talking to them anymore.
Obviously it's totally okay if it's something super important, but some people just want to text with others, watch videos and like photos while talking to you.

I don't care what anybody does as long as they are not harming anybody else. I'm not even all that concerned about law breakers - if they are not doing anybody else any harm. If they are harming themselves, well, that's their affair.
Doing your own handi-work is rewarding and builds character.
I've noticed a lot of younger people's first response to things breaking or needing to be replaced is to hire a repair person or to just buy a new item, without attempting to fix it with their own two hands. Doing it yourself teaches you a skill that you can use to help your friends and family, makes you smarter and more well rounded, and will also help keep you calm and cool in thr face of life's frustrations. When bad things happen, it's not the end of the world. You've fixed things before and you can learn to do it again.
I'm not suggesting spending hours and hours trying how to handle your own plumbing or electricity, but if your car makes a weird noise, or your walls need a fresh coat of paint or spackle, you can watch a 5 minute youtube tutorial and do it yourself.
We rely on technology too much. If it all crashes one day no one would know what to do and we'd be stuck.
I hate tipping, just pay your workers a fair wage. Also, I live in a state where servers must be paid at least minimum wage unlike some states that can pay less, so tipping is that much more annoying to me.
Communities within neighbourhoods would be lovely. My mum talks about it all the time, but it's something I've never experienced myself. Like, we know our neighbours, but that's about it. I'd love to live on a street or in a suburb where people have little get-togethers (street parties for big events) or just generally know and look out for each other on a more meaningful level.

People's driving is getting progressively worse. I have to honk at someone a few times a week to move at a green light because they have to check Facebook every time they stop.
And it's even more annoying when it appears that they have to check the manual on what to do when the light goes green. " Let's see, it's green. What does a green light mean again? Oh, now I have to drive. Release parking brake? Check. Put your foot on the gas pedal? Check. Push down that pedal an itsy bitsy tiny bit so the car starts moving? Wow, Hey!! I'm moving!!!!" And in the meantime the light has changed to red again.
People take message apps way to personally. Crying over "being left on read" because someone hasn't responded in a couple of hours is just pathetic. Just because somebody hasn't checked their messages in a day doesn't mean they are ghosting you either. Stop trying to normalize your phone addiction by painting people who aren't as addicted as bad people, or accuse them of neglectful behavior or abandonment.
Message apps can be exhausting for some people. Not everyone feels like texting 24/7. If it's a thing that requires immediate response or an emergency, you just call. Phones can do that.
You should not have your butt showing out from under your shorts when you’re out walking with your family or at the grocery store.
Parents giving their little kids iPads to entertain them is so weird, especially on holidays. Just talk to each other or play something together! It just seems like the parents want to get rid of the kid, it can not be good for the poor child's development.
i think it is okay for a short time like 15-30 Min. but not for hours or days. Otherwise the kids won't learn to entertain themself, to use the fantasy or to get in contact with other kids to make friends to play with.
It seems like everyone these days is trying to find their big break as a youtuber/influencer/Podcaster and it's incredibly annoying. People need to realize that you either need to be incredibly skilled, interesting, smart, or attractive before people will want to watch/listen to you talk about stuff.

It’s not just the people I know, I see it all the time, I’ve been cutting down my usage of all social media because now I just think “what’s the point in this?” it’s just people I don’t give a shit about in real life sharing absolute garbage. I only have Facebook, Twitter and reddit and can barely stand those three, I go on every now and then but it doesn’t last long, rather spend my time doing something I actually enjoy instead of clicking on random posts to get a quick dopamine hit.

I totally agree! I've never been much of a rap fan, but I definitely prefer older rap songs to modern ones. They're incredibly repetitive, they always just mumble through the whole song, and whenever you CAN actually understand them, they always talk about horrible stuff like drugs, sex, etc.

Deciding to have children with your significant other is a bigger commitment than getting married. I don't understand couple's who are in their 30s and decide to have children together but refuse to get married because that's too much of a commitment. It boggles my mind. How does sharing a child for the rest of your life not scare you away but signing a legal paper does freak you out? I have a few acquaintances who are in their mid 30s and in long term relationships where they've had kids but refuse to get married because they're afraid of getting divorced.

My most "boomer" opinion is that you don't need a new car, period. Buy a good model that can survive the Apocalypse, keep it properly maintained, then laugh all the way to the bank when someone with their fancy current-year model tries to shame you for owning a 20-year-old sedan. My car's cost me less keeping it running in 5 years than a new car's lease alone costs in just a single year, and I actually OWN my car.

I think we need to really look at whether or not we’re part of the problem when we complain about something but we don’t do anything about helping to resolve our complaints. I myself try not to use the words should and shouldn’t I prefer to invite people to change not tell them to change. I have a good story to relay if you have a minute. Some people were camping in Yosemite on vacation and next to them some people pulled in and turn the stereo up really loud. After and during this for a couple of minutes the dad walked over to the young people with the loud stereo and ask them have you come to Yosemite before? Not really knowing how to react because they were expecting an argument, They started a conversation and one of the things the dad said was we come here to listen to the birds and to listen to the waterfall and to really leave our music at home because we want to hear the music of nature and we would like to invite you for dinner with us tonight.
Part two now both families vacation in Yosemite at the same time every year and they enjoy each other’s company and there’s no loud radio it’s all in how you approach things you don’t need to fight with people to get your point across you don’t need to degrade them demoralized them or tell them that the wrong. Invite change don’t demand it

People shouldn't be copying everything they see. They should be using CREATIVITY. Don't diss 'nerds' or whatever. I love dressing in Edwardian/Victorian styles, and I get strange looks any time I go outside. I get that I'm different, but I think I look pretty, and it's none of your business anyway.
Generation labels are dumb. So much depends on how and where you were raised, rather than what year you were born. (And half of the Boomers raised Gen Xers, then divorced, remarried and raised Millenials. So are we even really 2 different generations?)
I think the youth of today are more confident in agreeing with the boomers, At their age, I would have loved sharing lots of "old fashioned" opinions as a teen, but I would have never dared for fear of ridicule. Being cool and popular was everything, geeks/teens not fitting the mould were mocked and bullied, sporties/big talkers admired. I'm in awe of this strong "I don't care what you think" generation.
Why are these "boomer" opinions? I'm Gen X and want to know why my attic ventilation system only has controls by cell phone! Maybe it's just wanting a bit of simplicity... a basic on-off switch, for example!
The reason boomers don't like GenXers or Millenials is that for the most part the younger generations are hyper-critical without having made any self-sacrificing effort to contribute to the betterment of the world, let alone the lives of the people around them. Coupled with this is the assumption that just because the evil boomer politicians who currently run the show are bent on destruction, all boomers are like that. It is quite the opposite. The self-centeredness is insulting to a generation which did make those sacrifices for the future, and who would like nothing more than to openly communicate with you, but the default has always been to shut out the aging people from society in the Western World, so it really isn't a surprise.

As a Boomer....thank you. I agree with so many of these things! I don't upgrade every year...maybe every 5 years for anything. Finally donated my car of almost 20 years with 185,000 miles on it to Habitat for Humanity...I prefer used books (real ones!) that we can read at home, then send on to others. And honestly...not all Boomers are bad people. :)

Buy a good model that can survive the Apocalypse, keep it properly maintained, then laugh all the way to the bank when someone with their fancy current-year model tries to shame you for owning a 20-year-old sedan. My car's cost me less keeping it running in 5 years than a new car's lease alone costs in just a single year, and I actually OWN my car.
My millenial opinion is: I don't need any car at all.
Load More Replies... I think we need to really look at whether or not we’re part of the problem when we complain about something but we don’t do anything about helping to resolve our complaints. I myself try not to use the words should and shouldn’t I prefer to invite people to change not tell them to change. I have a good story to relay if you have a minute. Some people were camping in Yosemite on vacation and next to them some people pulled in and turn the stereo up really loud. After and during this for a couple of minutes the dad walked over to the young people with the loud stereo and ask them have you come to Yosemite before? Not really knowing how to react because they were expecting an argument, They started a conversation and one of the things the dad said was we come here to listen to the birds and to listen to the waterfall and to really leave our music at home because we want to hear the music of nature and we would like to invite you for dinner with us tonight.
Part two now both families vacation in Yosemite at the same time every year and they enjoy each other’s company and there’s no loud radio it’s all in how you approach things you don’t need to fight with people to get your point across you don’t need to degrade them demoralized them or tell them that the wrong. Invite change don’t demand it

More divisive generational posts. People do realize that the generational labels, boomer, gen x,y,z, millennial, is all made up, that before boomers there were no generational labels, and are all used for marketing purposes. How about we all just leave the labels behind and just exist as people of all different ages.

And Youtubers/Twitch stars, don't complain when your fps drops by 2. You have much better setups than any of your viewers. Don't rub it in. Stop with these TikTok influencers and dances. People shouldn't be copying everything they see. They should be using CREATIVITY. Don't diss 'nerds' or whatever. I love dressing in Edwardian/Victorian styles, and I get strange looks any time I go outside. I get that I'm different, but I think I look pretty, and it's none of your business anyway.
Generation labels are dumb. So much depends on how and where you were raised, rather than what year you were born. (And half of the Boomers raised Gen Xers, then divorced, remarried and raised Millenials. So are we even really 2 different generations?)
I think the youth of today are more confident in agreeing with the boomers, At their age, I would have loved sharing lots of "old fashioned" opinions as a teen, but I would have never dared for fear of ridicule. Being cool and popular was everything, geeks/teens not fitting the mould were mocked and bullied, sporties/big talkers admired. I'm in awe of this strong "I don't care what you think" generation.
Why are these "boomer" opinions? I'm Gen X and want to know why my attic ventilation system only has controls by cell phone! Maybe it's just wanting a bit of simplicity... a basic on-off switch, for example!
The reason boomers don't like GenXers or Millenials is that for the most part the younger generations are hyper-critical without having made any self-sacrificing effort to contribute to the betterment of the world, let alone the lives of the people around them. Coupled with this is the assumption that just because the evil boomer politicians who currently run the show are bent on destruction, all boomers are like that. It is quite the opposite. The self-centeredness is insulting to a generation which did make those sacrifices for the future, and who would like nothing more than to openly communicate with you, but the default has always been to shut out the aging people from society in the Western World, so it really isn't a surprise.
I don't see the hate here. Isn't it an American thing?
Load More Replies... As a Boomer....thank you. I agree with so many of these things! I don't upgrade every year...maybe every 5 years for anything. Finally donated my car of almost 20 years with 185,000 miles on it to Habitat for Humanity...I prefer used books (real ones!) that we can read at home, then send on to others. And honestly...not all Boomers are bad people. :)
Just wait until Millenials and Gen Z are around 50, opinions change with age.
am sick and tired of the Americans blaming everything on the Boomers. Society is wrecked because of leaders, [people with money etc, whose only concern was themselves and how much more money they could make. The USA government just uses it as an excuse to divert attention from the real culprits, just Look at Branson etc?????
