Meet Carolyn Hartz – the owner of SweetLife and grandmother that went sugar-free 28 years ago and now doesn’t even look half her age.
After being diagnosed with pre-diabetes, the 69-year-old had to give up the sweet stuff in order to get her blood sugar back on track. The used-to-be sugar addict cut the ingredient out of her diet 28 years ago and now uses an alternative called Xylitol instead. Though her young looks aren’t just due to the fact she cut out sugar – she’s also a fan of regular exercise. “You have to watch what you put in your mouth — that’s number one — and two, you have to move your legs,” Hartz told News.com.au. Despite what Hartz says about the sugar-free diet to thank for her youthful looks, the Internet just doesn’t buy it… What do you think?

But the Internet just doesn’t buy it for many reasons, including surgery
The fact that she can afford expensive care
And some even think she’s using the story to advertise her own company

Women are funny about who they choose to support when it comes to body image. Someone flaunts their 200 pound body and it's empowering, but you attack a 69 year old because she has money? Guess what you don't need money to give up sugar and exercise. And FYI, majority of people who post their stories online are advertising. Obviously some people just can't see that.
I think it's more about honesty. People don't like being lied to and will call people out for doing that.
If she had surgery, she lied almost about the whole thing. She is asked whats her secret is to look this good at the age of 69 - By telling us it is only because she lived without sugar for a long time, she lied. If she had done an surgery it is not only because of living "sugar-free" and doing sports.
@john This woman is absolutely gorgeous, I didn't say anything to the contrary. I'm not an envious or jealous person, I'm confident in who I am and the way I look. You've clearly just misinterpreted my comment.

Don't mind. Caitlyn loves talking nonsense :) this is not her first time.

What did she lie about? She said she cut sugar and used that substitute. I thought it was pretty cut and dry. PS- who really cares if she had plastic surgery on her face? If someone wants to do that, it is their perrogative

No Erin, you got 'honesty' mixed up with 'envy' and 'jealousy'. Big difference. Perhaps by the time you reach her age, you will have accrued enough wisdom to go along with your youthful intelligence.
All I know is, regardless of if she had plastic surgery and age prevention from botox, leaving refined sugars off your plate has major health benefits almost immediately. More in general, but Similar to giving up smoking cigarettes.
Agreed, but it can't be denied that plastic surgery is part of why she looks so young. I noticed her "work" first thing. The fact that she attributes it to the sugar thing exclusively is disingenuous at best, hypocritical lying at worst.
@ Gwinnie - So what's wrong with plastic surgery? Whoever worked on her face (if they did, my Gran looked that good at 70 with no surgery) did an exquisite job.
Sorry doubters. Most of the women on my mom's side looked like this into their 90s. Of course, I take after my dad:/
It's not an issue of money. It's about cheating on people by publishing false claims or half truths in order to brag about her artificially-made look. No one cares about her money.
I do not understand what all of this is about. This woman is the owner of SweetLife, a company that sells products containing Xylitol. All of that is revealed. Therefore, this is a simple marketing plot, not more, and not less. Her looks and any reason behind it are not noteworthy but for the promotion of her own products. Admittedly, promiting one-sided nutrition never is a good thing, but we have too little information to say whether she is doing it. Thus: simply a disregardable debate.
She chose not to become a diabetic, and stay in shape - another way to avoid diabetes. I'm quite sure she wouldn't have given up sugar if that wasn't the case. Why do people find it so necessary to be hostile when people take care of themselves? Why is it so scary?
How is stating a fact hostile? She's had plastic surgery and botox. The skin on her body looks her age.
I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes also, I don't use sugar, lowered fruit consumption, don't drink even natural juice which has a lot of sugar, just water and tea without sugar, it isn't even sugar but a lot of empty carbs which turn to sugar that make you diabetic.
People are mean and jealous
artificial sweeteners increase diabetes risk more than regular natural sugar and why would you worry if you don't go over the daily range of natural sugar consumption? Diet coke is more unhealthy than the regular because the fake sweeteners fuck up your metabolism even more, forget the science that needs to be done to what happens to your brain when you consume it.
What do you mean her looks are not a part of it? Did you not see this "She has stayed away from sugar for 28 years now and claims it’s what helped her sustain her good looks". That's what people are calling her on. If she wants to have plastic surgery, good for her. But to suggest that its not surgery, but rather using her product is bullshit.
I don't care if a 50 year old looks like a 21 year old,a 69 year old looks like a 30 year old or a 92 year old looks 40.....There's no way on this earth i'm giving up sugar! Might not have many teeth left and the waist might have 'slipped' a 'bit' but life's way too short to worry about the calories in a teaspoon of sugar!
wait until the heart disease kicks in.. laying in hospital bed is not fun.
You wouldn't believe how great it feels to be thin and fit and healthy. It feels so much better than anything tastes. Honestly though, if you give up sugar for about a month (that month admittedly sucks balls) you'll lose your cravings for it. It's nuts but that's how the body works. Your body forgets you were addicted to it and you get healthy and drop the pounds and it's absolutely worth it in every single way. You wouldn't regret it.
i'd live a much happier life if i cared less about being fit and thin. i'd rather die at 50. but i'm just as trapped by the "work out, get this figure, make the money, be hot and young FOREVER" as most women are. I love sugars but i love kale too. A short but happy life is just as good as living to 100 on juice. except i never want to live that long.
well life will be longer if you do eat healthy, and you can do more fun things with pleasure and not caring about how fat you think you look.
it isn't about how long you live but how well you live, you just chose to live poor and short life. After your 40s you will experience plenty of health problems, I since birth have shit health, without healthy lifestyle and even if I ate like you with my metabolism I would weight 500lbs, I can't stand people who are born with perfect health and just waste it, all I want is to be healthy, to wake up in the morning and feel good, for that I would give up any freedom, you don't deserve your life, you are no different from a smoker or a crack user, sooner or later you will lose your health and will have to live slowly dying till you turn 60, hopefully by then you will have your legs.
Sniegen 8 You are a very bitter person. I am sorry for all of your health problems, but that does not give you the right to judge/hate people who are healthy and live their days on earth as they choose. You don't know what burdens and problems HopeFloats and others have in their own lives. We each have our burdens and problems that are uniquely our own, whether self-made or born with them. You're health problems may be more visible but they are no worse or no less than the next person's. You are the one who is wasting life being bitter and hating others, instead of searching for your purpose and finding ways to inspire others.
