That's nice in theory, but if I give an unsolicited compliment to a random stranger they'll either think I'm weird, hitting on them, want something or taking the p**s.

He lied. He told the kid he thought the hat was ugly. Great. Now I'm going to suspect every compliment everyone gives me for the next month or so. You can always find something nice to say that you really mean. It's not hard, once you put yourself in that mindset. But lying to produce a result you want to see in the world? And teaching your kid to do the same? No.

That comment alone could have the power to save that person's life. Some people are so close to self termination that they just need SOMETHING, anything to give them pause, to shine a small light into the darkness they are in and show then they everything isn't hopeless, that there's still SOME good. Never underestimate the power of a kind (or a harsh) word. For your, there may be no cost in either, not to the person you direct them at, it could cost everything

We all have the power to be kind caring loving and compassionate with the ability to make others happy. It's just that we should do it more often.

Man do I relate to this. People say that to me all the time (I'm a life-long model-builder). It's not "talent" it's a couple decades of misery, frustration and failure but wanting it badly enough that I kept at it until I got to a place I never thought I'd get. So while I know they mean well, I honestly find it insulting when people say that to me. I'm not totally devoid of social skills though so I keep that to myself and say thank you. If they seem like they might care then I might go on to give the Cliff's notes of how I got to where I am now.

I never realized how true this is, until I looked at some old art of artists that I really love. On sites like deviantart, some artists have been sharing their work for 15 years and it's amazing to see their development through this timeline. It was really surprising to me, that some artist make AMAZING art now, good work 5 years ago, mediocre 10 years ago, and pretty bad work 15 years ago. Based on their work from 15 or 10 years ago, I would not have predicted them to become absolutely fantastic later.

I love that "rest" is in there. Too often, people think that rest will hinder the achievement of their goals, when in reality, it is vital to the process because without rest, you don't have the energy or clarity of mind to intelligently make the decisions needed to achieve the goals! You can't keep the engine running on an empty tank; you will either run down before you reach the goal, or arrive at the goal too tired and broken to enjoy the success

This is the story of the British composer and Musician Mike Oldfield. He practiced and practiced his guitar for hours at a time when he was a child. He is the ONLY guitarist I have ever heard that can play 2 trebles and 2 Bass lines on the guitar at the same time. Here is an example of his playing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWDrJDpV73M

I agree with all the comments (so far) about this comic. But I think that (what the cartoonist was trying to convey) ultimately it is you who is responsible for your choices. Sure there are people who influence you, support you, guide you, ... But in the end, it was you who did the work, climbed the ladder, chose a direction. This isn't the room of all those who helped you along the way. This is the room with the person who actually did it.

I'm gonna be redundant; but still: this comic is definitely meant to be inspirational but it overlooks the fact that systemic injustices and inequalities often keep people from reaching their dreams. Things like the country you are born in, the neighborhood you grew up in, generational poverty, etc. Also, things like special needs, disability or mental illness

I bet writing your name on wet concrete doesn't make the road builders happy...

Gardening and growing beautiful flowers makes me happy. Tall weeds do not. It's almost like everyone is different and has different ways to be happy, or something.

Do a good deed for someone. Let a driver into traffic. At a buffet, pass someone a plate, or flatware, or a napkin. Sign petitions. Donate to a reputable charity. Declutter and give the extra items to a thrift shop. Help out at a food bank. Perform random acts of kindness whenever you have the means and opportunity.

In short, live life, make mistakes, do stupid things, and look back and laugh at it all because you found joy.

I once was stung by a bee on my baby toe by walking around barefoot. I don't recommend.

Usually I rather feel like the universe want to drop me in the middle of these piranhas than help me.

No, it won't. It will do everything to destroy you.
