Im in my final year for my psychology degree. In my final abnormal psychology class, we learned a lot of about schizophrenia. The most interesting thing was that the fear/anxiety or lack there of that often comes with the delusions is dependent on one's culture. In certain places in the world, particularly where research reports lower stress and more positive beliefs about the super natural, and where ancestors are believed to support and aid individuals, people with schizophrenic delusions are often unafraid and have a sense that the voices and faces are kind and are with the individual because they care about them, want to protect them, etc.. In areas (including the US) where overall stress is much higher and cultural beliefs about such concepts revolve around fear, evil, violence etc. people with the same delusional symptoms experience terror, and may act violently. They hear the voices attacking them, rather than supporting or guiding them. I was shocked. Amazing.

Potentially a gas leak in the house. Because natural gas is odourless it has methanethiol added to give it a strong smell. Because methanethiol is also given off by decomposing organic matter - including flesh - it can attract carrion-eaters.
