I Show What Disney Characters Would Look Like As Transgender, Because They Are Equally Great

I'm an Art Director in NYC, and like millions of you I grew up watching Disney movies. I love them and always will as they talk about love, freedom, and transformation.
Growing up, I realized that they don't include a very important category: transgender people. People who more than anyone else know the meaning of and seek for that love, freedom and transformation portrayed by Disney.
So I asked myself: What if the most famous movies were to be told as a transgender story? What if they could use their power and following to help tear down the stigmas and taboos about the LGBTQ community?
I'm using all I employ at my job every day - Photoshop and a design tablet - to (hopefully) allow for this happen. Or at least break the tip of the iceberg.

Honestly, not impressed with the "change". I'm not sure that cutting their hair, or giving them long hair and eyeliner represents "trans". Most trans folk I've seen before and after pictures of are actually very different looking from their "original" selves and it's very clear from the changes effected that they clearly were whatever gender they thought they were... you only have to look on here for before an after pictures to see it. Their faces change, their eyes change, they were CLEARLY in bodies that had somehow not had in the right hormones/dna kick in in utero.
I only ageee with paranoidandroid on one thing: psuedo science really needs to go. Anyone's body will change under hormone treatment. It has nothing to do with having 'the right' hormones or dna kick (wtf) in utero. If we truly want to understand the origin of transgender people, and the science behind it, we need to let go of superstitious notions that they are somehow less validated if it turns out to be some chemical imbalance or due to hormones in our food and drinking water. Not saying that is how it is, but you have to be open to options and still accept them for who they are regardless of the outcome! Science does not function when people get in the way with their butt hurt. From both sides.

I just don't think this will change in the future because it's so deep ingrained. Transpeople are a tiny tiny fringe exception. Ok I'm curuous about your position. What you say doesn't help you, help us or change anyone's mind. It just triggers us all and makes us wish that you were hit with something nice and solid. If someone feels more comfortable as a woman than a man, or vice versa, you goddamn let them. Your chromosomes define your physical gender but as for the sex of your mentality, I think that psychology is a little bit more of a unique spectrum than in direct relation to your cells' DNA packages. I really could be doing something else now, but if you find this important, I will too. I take this personally as some of my best friends fall into the category. When you say that transgender is a product of a pseudoscience, I really beg to differ. And what do you even mean by "Men and women are not equal"? Of course they aren't. If they were, we wouldn't call them "Men" and "Women". We would just call them all "Human" but I guess that is another talk for another time.

well it was more shouting than anger, but my whole point is that there are differences between sexes, biologically and evolutionary. I actually believe that sex or gender will not matter in the near future, with bio-enhancement tech one will be able to change gender with a single shot over night or maybe even being transplanted into another body, maybe something not as sophisticated like on that Surrogates movie with Bruce Willis, but there will be one point in time where people will be able to change eye color, skin color or even maybe gender at will or with a pill or even just a download of dna code onto your own genes, think Aeonflux or even Ghost in the Shell. But regardless of that trangenders and all the science behind it seems contradictory to what nature tells us... Just my humble opinion

I dont mind letting some one dress as whatever they want or even use whatever restroom they want but dont tell me its genetic or that genders are interchangeable, gender roles are naturally understood by every other species, gender are a natural occurring role that is there for evolutionary reasons

Gender is a social construct. Feminity and masculinity are concepts invented by society and are still used to oppress women, to keep them in their place. If gender stereotypes didn't exist there would be no need to identify as transgender or non binary, or fit into any other box. In fact, transgenderism reinforces strict gender roles as seen in the characters above. There is little to no evidence to suggest that there is a biological correlation between sex and gender.

Keep in mind that this is a philosophical construct and the reality of people's physical identity is still something they decide about. My mother lost er chest due to cancer. She now has an implant. Ask my mother if she would get the same implant if she would live alone on a deserted island and she would say "yes". Her feminity is an important part of her. A lot of people deeply identify with their sex. With transpeople it is a sort of unpleasant wrongness. Ask any transperson the question with the island, most of them would still prefer to get surgery.
Why is it so taboo to state that a trans person suffers from mental illness? The Mayo Clinic defines mental illness as such: "Mental illness refers to a wide range of mental health conditions — disorders that affect your mood, thinking and behavior." I don't have a single negative feeling toward the trans community, but these people clearly suffer from mental illness. Just because it isn't a dangerous one (such as the sociopath), doesn't change the correlation. Can we stop glorifying mental illness? Please?
Sociopathy isn't per definition dangerous. I don't often say this but please stop with the arm chair psychology.
Jesse please note that the mental illness argument is often used to exclude transpeople from the necessary care they need. In the end it doesn't really matter what it is. From a practical standpoint living as the wished gender and getting necessary medical help reliefs transpeople from a lot of the suffering and burden. Depressions/suicide rates drop dramatically.
Actually, suicide rates are almost exactly the same.

you are right if this would help it would be a solution but pumping someone full of hormones is not a solution today, suicide rates have not gone down. I dont believe our current psychological approach is the correct either.

As someone who is trans, I cannot tell you how harmful this outlook is, but have also accepted the fact that people will bank hard on science when they have nothing else that will justify their train of thought. I can only tell you that transitioning improved my quality of life immensely, and I’m a functioning member of society rather than someone who couldn’t bear to look in a mirror without wanting to kill myself. I’m not crazy about pride, but I know how hard it is to live in a world that just thinks you’re sick. It’s dehumanizing, humiliating, and often terrifying. People forget the roots of psychiatric science are based in philosophy, etc, which are not necessarily factual at all. While I think some sects of the community go over the top with advocacy, I can assure you that is not the majority. It’s not about glorification for us, it’s about acceptance. And acceptance is not looking at someone and calling them mentally ill.

I think that i suffer from a mental illness called "idiotsphobia" in a strong form, i must see a doctor. There are 10 tips at the end to stop beeing an asshole with people you don't know. I don't have a single negative feeling toward the trans community. I'm simply pointing out that from a scientific point of view, something went wrong in the wiring process of a trans person's brain when it was being developed in the womb. In all OTHER situations where someone's brain wiring went wrong during development, we refer to it as a mental disorder, mental disease, or mental illness. A man believing himself to be a woman, or vise versa, is no different. This is not an insult nor slight on anybody as a person; it is simply an acknowledgement that because something went wrong in their brain's development, they have a mental illness.

Hello Oana. I am not forcing anyone to do anything. This is in support of people who are already in the process of transitioning, or thinking they should. We all deserve to be in an understanding world.

Maybe use your amazing artistic abilities to draw real transgender people from history and tell their stories in order to show support?
The world honestly needs more of that instead of forcing fictional characters to be transgender who were never meant to be.

The problem is simple. Nobody is "force feeding" that, it's just that transgender are living a hell because a lot of people in society treat them like they are either mentally ill, or see them as sub-humans. In both case this is not ok. They are just... people, period ! So it's important not to brush the problem under the doormat, but make it loud and clear that it IS ok. Like you said yourself, "if someone is or wants to be, let them be". Unfortunately, it' not like that for everyone.

Well if anyone forced something on anyone, I think it' transfobics, homophobics, psychophobics or validists that want to hide anyone who is different from them right in a little box, so that they pretend they do not exist. If it' help people to assume themselves to see pictures of people sharing their difference, or disney characters looking like them why should it bother you? Don't you like people being happy or confortable with themselves?
