Stories about toxic mothers-in-law are the stuff of legends. It's a common stereotype that every mother hates her son's wife or girlfriend, and women often return those feelings. In fact, 23.9% of women in the U.S. say they consider their MIL a "frenemy," while 12.9% think of their mothers-in-law as enemies.
You might think that such a label is harsh, but after you read some of the texts in this list, you might understand where the women are coming from. The recent trend on TikTok, where girlfriends and wives expose their toxic MILs for the crazy texts they've sent them, seems familiar to many women. "Sometimes you have to read a text from your MIL and then block her," the participants in the trend write.

"Fantastic. We were just discussing how to ensure that our parents don't feel lonely during the holidays. Sounds like you have a full house!"
Unhinged in-laws are a pretty relevant topic at the moment, since it's the Thanksgiving weekend. For many people, the holidays are a time of heightened stress, and conflicts with in-laws can be a big contributor to that. If you have a mother-in-law who's similar to the ones on this list, you might not feel so thankful this holiday season.
Mental health experts explain that it is crucial to set boundaries if you want to survive the Thanksgiving weekend. The important thing here is that a couple should present as a united front, meaning that if one spouse finds a MIL's behavior inappropriate, the other should back them up.
"He came out of your p**** 25 years ago. He came in mine this morning."
As evident from some of the examples on this list, toxic mothers-in-law like to be backseat grandparents. They think that because it's their son's child, they have a say in how they will be raised and cared for. PopSugar's Laura Lifshitz writes that it's important to let these types of MILs know that you hear their concern, but won't entertain their every whim and comment.
"Just gently say, 'Thank you for caring so much about the kids. It means a lot to me that you care so much, but don't worry. They will be fine,'" Lifshitz recommends saying. However tempting it may seem, it's best to refrain from smirking, rolling your eyes, and using a sarcastic tone. In the end, that will only bring more drama.
I don't really understand this idea that using an app to plan meals isn't real cooking. If you're cooking, you're cooking. I've never used an app, but I get recipes from all sorts of places, including the internet. Does that also not count as cooking?
Even one evening with a toxic mother-in-law can be draining. That's why it's so important to practice self-care before and after, perhaps more intensely than regularly. Experts recommend spending more time with friends, doing activities that help you recharge and relax (be it working out, crocheting, or catching up on your favorite show), taking a moment to ground yourself in the moment, perhaps even meditating or doing some breathing exercises.
Had to go to the original to check what "st****ing" was, and it was stabbed and stabbing.
What are your relationships with your mothers-in-law like, Pandas? Have you ever received this sort of message from your unhinged MIL? Let's make the comment section into a group therapy session and share the worst things MILs have said to us. And after, if you're looking for more stories about how people deal with their toxic MILs, check out this one where a man got revenge at his overbearing MIL in the pettiest way possible!
Someone's mad & jealous that her son took me out for breakfast.
If the son is incapable of doing anything without help, and you raised him, then yes, you are stupid. If this is just a tiresome belittling insult for someone enjoying life without a toxic person in it, then yes, you are stupid.
Oh, this is a Jewish thing! The naming thing is for both boys and girls, but only boys get a bris because that's the circumcision ceremony. So this one is the MIL saying, oh, it's time for the bris, you ARE doing that, right? She's not bringing it up out of nowhere.
is it just me or is she saying that "to" COVID not the person she has texted.
Forget mothers in law. Can somebody tell me about these apps that will cook for me?
Had, have I suppose, a pretty odd MIL. She's a JW, but that isn't the worst. She just decided to hate me without saying why. Left her to it. Unfortunately she doesn't even contact her daughter now, and I'm not getting involved.
My MIL is the best. Maybe because she she lives on the other side of the earth, but also because FIL and MIL attended my son´s graduation when my own mother felt too ill to be there. There was nothing really wrong with her. Which was just as well, because she would have spent the whole event telling everyone how sick and handicapped she was.
Gawd. Whyohwhy repost this sort of horrible stuff on BP? Downvoted, in the hope that...
Set proper boundaries as well as limiting contact drastically , n even better dint bloody have any 😂the nice ones like me n loads of others yes , this lot on here HELL NO !
