From people and plants to cars and buildings, time eventually wears everything out. Sometimes it takes weeks or months, other times it can take years or decades, but eventually everything begins to crumble beneath the unstoppable pressure of Father Time.

Check out this fascinating list to see what we mean. Compiled by Bored Panda, the pictures below contain everything from marble floors worn down by feet to kitchen knives that have almost lost their blades due to years of constant use. I wouldn't put the blame all on the coal plants. When I've visited the city , auto exhaust & dirt particles are everywhere. I have returned to the Plaza , or, wherever else I've stayed, & washed grayish grime off my face after walking outside for an hour or so.

I think it's the acidity of his skin... coins were made from purer metals BITD. I played the flute (briefly) in the 1070s, and I wore all the silver off the 'buttons' or whatever you call them. I had a silver-toned flute with copper-toned buttons! I was told this was due to the ph of my skin.

Wood doesn't work that way. It would only be worn down if the monk hat moved a lot over that place, but he didn't . Just standing on wood wouldn't make dents - it might lower a section, but not carve out footprints. Especially not the toes! there's no weight on a toe, how would it indent so far down that you would spot the individual ones? Sorry- I call "fake" for this.

Marble is a porous, soft stone that's why it is widely used for carving and sculptures. I have seen this happening in busy places of worship especially where the stairs are made of marble.

If this is supposed to be real, then why are the spots the exact same size in the same location and only one spot in front of each teller? Shouldn't there be several spots in a row for people standing in line? And why does everyone stand exactly the same with their feet perfectly together? Don't get me wrong, I am not refuting that marble isn't porous but this seems way too symmetrical to be made by humans.

I call B******t on this one, too. No one builds a chimney flush against another building. It reduces the updraft too much. This is an outline put there for some reason. It's not the coincidental result of a building that used to be there.

If it was sunlight, the fading would be much more in front of the window. It's just that the varnish has been worn off where it wasn't protected by the rug. Refinish the floor and you won't be able to tell where the rug was.

I have been to these Science Museums and I have watched in fascination as children, including my own, and adults alike experience the thrill of turning simple handles to watch some amazing thing happen. I'm pretty sure the center cushion has been replaced, as it may have worn-out first. It's not uncommon to reupholster furniture in public buildings on an as-needed schedule.

Nothing to do with being introverted. It's basic animal self-preservation. You don't sit next to an unknown entity which might be a threat. That's what 'private space' boils down to and why invading someone's private space is such an aggressive, threatening act.

I suspect that the middle seat was replaced more recently than the outer seats, as there's no bleedover in wear or shine from the outer seats.

    Joel Hall

It was more likely just replaced more recently than the outer seats, as none of the wear from the outside seats is bleeding over onto it.

I had this same issue with several pipes in my house. A lot of older homes used galvanized drain pipes. It causes the flakes of metal to fall apart and rust impacting how much water can drain. I had to replace all my drain pipes during a renovation. pipe-5947c...a76874.jpg pipe-5947c76a76874.jpg

Can you get it sized up? I'm getting knuckly and it's only going to get worse. The only solution for that is to have my rings sized up and having a jeweller solder little balls of gold or silver on the inside. It leaves room to get the rings on, but the balls keep the ring in place.

This has probably been used professionally in a business. and every cook has a favorite tool. Most likely the cook has grown accustomed to it and values it for its personality. I have a knife from my early days at Cracker Barrel, some forty years ago, and I favor it over all other knives. And it too is at least one third worn down due to sharpening. I love that knife. ;D

As a proffessional knife sharpener, I've seen -too- many knives come across my work table with bldes like this. It's likely worn down like this because it's a poor quality knife and therefore has to be repeatedly sharpened to keep its edge. If this were a quality knife it would -steel- be no good. The metal at the back of the blade would be softer and therefore a knife worn to this point would be useless, no matter how good your sharpener is. I broght plenty of knives like this back from the brink, but I always warned customers that they would be better off spending a little money for a new knife because otherwise I was going to be seeing them again really soon.

You keep on using it. You have muscle memory for it's use, which changes gradually with the changes to the knife, it's comfortable using it. That will now be great as a fish filleting knife. I have a long slim carving knife that my grandmother had as a wedding present, 1930's I think. It's lost all the 'wave' to the blade and is probably half the width it once was.

And while I think about it, that cover too has seen the largest desert in Europe, the Dolomites (6 times indeed) and also many Mediterranean beaches. And even if it has never traveled by plane it did all of that in a 40 year old VolksWagen so I think it is still good after all

YEARS of using a bra?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Mine get completely worn out after a couple of months.....and they are no longer white after just a couple of washes in the washing machine....

That started out a champagne colored bra. An old bra would look dirty and unevenly discolored.

You're not supposed to keep a bra in use that long.. They're worn out long before

Ummm, that's just a pic of two new bras. One's a white racerback, ones a beige standard-strap. Frankly, bras age so poorly that an actual genuine comparison would be way more entertaining!

This entry needs to be added next to #118, the image of the faded wood, half circle.

The problem is, saying #118 is liable to become inaccurate: the rankings shift as certain images get more up-votes. I wish their posting instructions made it clearer that you need to use ONE (split) image. Ideally, they could provide an applet that would make one from your two.
