I was in need of a bigger kitchen table and designed this one for me and my family. The table consists of a matte black steel frame in square tubing with one leg and three leg ends made from copper tubing. The tabletop is plywood coated with matt black furniture linoleum. It was important for me to use functional materials that stand the test of time, both physically and aesthetically. The linoleum of the tabletop is made for spills, wear and tear, and the copper finish will age organically and grow more refined with time.

Three of the legs end with bare copper tubes sticking out of square steel tubing. The transition from square steel tubes to round tubes is based on the idea of exposing the concealed and sometimes unexpected that can be hidden inside. In combination with the asymmetric feature of a fourth leg in all copper, an element of surprise emerges, which adds excitement and dynamics to the table’s otherwise basic form.
