Ever wanted to see a rabbit riding a human snail while fighting a dog riding a rabbit with a broken neck? Well, now you can!

*shrugs* I Guess I'll Die
I hear it in Christopher Walkens voice for some reason. "Hey I got a big freaking ax in my head!"
We Joust
I would love to know what that latin (?) Says. If it describes whatever the hell is going on here?
No, that's just the text, whatever the monk was writing about in the body of the manuscript. I find monkish Gothic lettering extremely difficult to make out but the last word is "virginis" so it's either the annunciation or possibly the birth (Xmas). Marginalia isn't about the text, it's the monks basically amusing themselves with very medieval doodles.

From ted.com The butt tuba was likely shorthand to express disapproval with-- or add an ironic spin to-- the action in the text.
Oh! thank you! That makes sense.

This Makes Me So Uncomfortable
... I Don't Know What This Is
From medium.com. The devils were sinners who would go to hell and performed actions against God's will. And so the artists portrayed their bodies as disordered; placing their heads in the lower parts of their bodies. They lived in the lowest part of creation (Hell), rather than the highest part (Heaven).
Thanks for explaining @WhoPanda420. So who is the man playing the instrument to portray & is his body attached to the person being punished? Or is this the original body of the person being punished while the new face is on the butt area? Or is this 2 different people merged together? Basically I have so many questions on that part of what else the artist was going for with this very interesting pieces he made. Thanks

A Slimy Creature Fights A Gaint Snail
Copied this from justhistoryposts.com 4) The snails represent social climbers / poor vs rich The knights represent the higher levels of society, whereas the snails are the poor masses. They have no weapons with which to fight those above them, and they are base creatures struggling to win against those who have a better lot in life.
You sir, are full of facts. Thank you! Do you have anymore interesting history facts?

Yeah, that brought me here from Google Image. I hear ya. Super interesting.

Prob a book on witches or demons. Maybe I'm wrong and it was from a book of raunchy Medieval songs or something. Very cool though.
What I love about all these kind of manuscript illustrations is that they weren't just made by monks, but most were requested by the person buying the book. There some amazingly weird stuff in the margins of royal prayer books that have nothing to do with religious imagery and all about... Well, I'd get in trouble for a real description. So either Google "medieval marginalia monkeys" or click this for a monkey less but fat weirder margin art. https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/medieval-marginalia-books-doodles
Just got done taking a look. People back then must of done that for humor a lot of times maybe? Pretty cool they even had children's doodling save from back then. They said that it looked like a doodling of them trying to draw peacocks. Appreciate again you shared that. ❤️

Atleast whatever it was I would assume wasn't considered illegal yet. I would be interested to know too.

The #7 & #15 of your pictures brought me here from Google Image. Was too curious & wanted to know what all that was about. Glad to see the rest too. Very animated & cartoon like the artwork I have seen from back in that era. I am picking my brain right now & can't remember if more life like sketches I have ever seen from back then.... 🤔 Hmmmmm, can't remember. Regardless I enjoyed looking through this collection you put together. Thanks ❤️
