Someone Attacks Comic Book Cover Artist For Drawing Generously Proportioned Woman, Gets Called Out By The Author
We all know the classic idiom ‘never judge a book by its cover.’ Sadly, many people choose to ignore this sage piece of advice and make snap assumptions based purely on appearance, only to end up looking pretty stupid.
This was the case recently for Twitter user Anita Cox, who reached some quite astonishing conclusions from a cover pic for Everglade Angels, an upcoming graphic novel by Blake Northcott, Scott Lobdell and Roc Upchurch.
The picture in question is one of Blake’s characters, a woman of, ahem, generous proportions in the chest area, wielding a baseball bat. Blake commissioned the super talented Leila Leiz to do the cover because “she illustrates the female figure so beautifully, and I wanted a fun, sexy, 90s vibe for Everglade Angels.”

From this image alone, Cox managed to speculate on Blake and Leila’s gender, nationality, location of beard, sexual activity, education and voting preference. Pretty impressive levels of projecting really, especially considering that her Twitter bio says things like “never hate, Anti comicHATE and “here to love + educate.”
In other words, Cox judged the hell out of this book by its cover!
Understandably miffed, Blake decided to set the record straight. She posted a polite but firm reply which was in fact so hilariously passive-aggressive and revealing that it is simply a must-read.

Someone get some balm for that burn!
Blake told Bored Panda that the outlandish criticism didn’t anger her, she was simply shocked by all the wayward assumptions. “I’m used to dealing with trolls but not as often as you’d think,” she told us. “Comic book fans are usually pretty cool and laid back.”
“I don’t like to respond to people like this because it encourages others to jump on board and start a flame war, but this one was just too funny to pass up. Plus it was a total softball, no pun intended. I saw the chance to smash it out of the park so I swung. Glad I made a couple of people laugh in the process!”
Blake managed to drop in a few cheeky plugs for the comic during her sarcastic response, which does honestly look pretty awesome. Everglade Angels is currently being crowdfunded on Kickstarter and will be shipped out around Halloween! You can check it out here.
“The story is about a girls softball team that takes a shortcut through the Florida Everglades, and veer off the path towards a night they’ll never forget – drinking, dancing – one last hurrah before college starts and they go their separate ways,” Blake told us.
“When they stumble into a trap set by a murderous cult, the stage is set for a night of blood-soaked carnage – but the cult has never dealt with victims who are ready to fight back… while the girls might not have home-field advantage, they have a game-changing surprise of their own!”
So it turns out that Cox, with her bizarre trolling, didn’t just fail spectacularly with her misplaced assumptions about Everglade Angels, she actually ended up giving it plenty more publicity in the process!
Perhaps there is a use for trolls after all?
Here’s what people had to say about the bizarre and hilarious exchange

Share on FacebookAs a tits owner, I find all this anti-boob propaganda utterly offensive. No, but, jokes aside, you don't solve the problems by removing the images, if you're educated enough, you know education is the way to solve the objectification part.
Its the new Generation, I used to be an Anarchist and far left side, now I work in law enforcement. Young stupid people
Load More Replies...I wonder what's next these people find offensive. I mean come on! Roughly 50% of earth citizens have boobs (more including manboobs, and hey, I'm not judging). And breasts come in many sizes and shapes. So what's wrong with a female character with a D-cup? Or should they only draw 36B-34C breasts on their characters, because that's the average breast size? But I'm 99,99% sure there will be persons who find that offensive, because they have smaller, or bigger breasts. And yes, I've done my research purely to make a point on this thread. Boobs.
Next we shame long and short hair. Then it will be eye color. Then maybe the height of people (be honest, that happens now, I am a 5 foot 2 inch male...I married a woman who is 5 foot 8 inches, the comments occur constantly). The reality is that although some of this is changeable the people choose to wear what they like, or what their crush likes. We all apparently need something to judge, and the tossing in of politics only makes my point there as well since none of these aspects have anything to do with politics. Get over it, i like short and long hair, i am straight so sorry guys it isn't my thing even with decent man-boobs (or moobs), i like short and tall girls, I like big and small boobs, and my crush (aka my wife) just happens to love my facial hair (which is the reason I have a beard). So, who really gives a flying squirrel turd what others think?

I mean they are very comic book breasts. If that was a real woman her boobs would fall out, but it's a comic book. I'm also concerned about that much skin in a bug infested area..but again, comic book.

"the 90's and tits are both rad" = best quote of the day. P.S. "tits" (of any size) aren't the offensive thing.... however, an opinion of them, *can* be. "Peace, love, and mungbeans" people!! ;) <3
OK, he missed the mark. But he was just trying to be the hero. Because when a male artist exploits boobs the general reaction has to be "you f*****g sexist pig!!!", on the contrary when a female artist exploits boobs the reaction has to be; "don't you dare criticize her art!!!" It must be like the n-word, some can say it, some can't. I mean, we almost ruined a scientist's career because he wore a shirt with a female comic design on it (from an artist friend he was trying to promote, I think, I might be wrong), because SEXIST!!!! Except if it's a woman prostituting herself, then it's self-fulfillment or something, like pole-dancing is a sport, but hey, no prob, just show me more boobs, i love boobs and fight your senseless culture wars that have NOTHING to do with feminism, but only with self-aggrandizing virtue-signaling and thirst for followers. Boy am I glad my daughter is already grown. edit to add; I am all for feminism and equality, but this has nothing to do with that. It's just hijacking a just cause to promote themselves, the guy that made the mistake and also those that are crucifying him.
Why is everybody assuming that QueenAnitaCox is male? This is the exact same assumption that the article is all upset about. NOT EVERYONE ON THE INTERNET IS MALE. (PS. I looked it up; preferred pronouns listed as she/her.)

First off its a comic book..your gonna have big boobs....the same way every dude has to have six pack and live at the gym.. But no-one ever bitches about that stereotype
Amen. All those people bitching about women super heroes: have you ever looked at what the fellas are supposed to look like? WTF?! Talk about unrealistic....
Load More Replies...The art is fabulous - and the author is right - the artist DOES do a gorgeous female figure. Yes, she does have generous proportions but not laughably so (**ahem** Liefeld... ***ahem*** much Anime)... also the proportions are perfectly realistic for a fit person (*I* may look like a reject-donut, but that doesn't mean I don't know what people with good fitness/tone look like).
if it were Liefeld she'd also have a broken spine so you could see butt and boobs at once and weird lines all over her face

There are 2 kinds of people in the world. Those who give credit to things they share (to complain or to praise) and those who don't.
i think she looks fricken awesome! like a mix of Lara Croft and Natasha Romanoff! im sure she could drop kick you into the ocean with her finger!
The comics are art. The creator can visualize the character from his/her imagination. The problem is not the comic character with big boobs, butts, muscles, strong, weak, beautiful, scary etc. When real peoples see others, or themselves from the perspective of fiction and try transform themselfs with surgery to a unrealistic perfect man/woman there is the problem.
While I think these woman can write & draw what they want. It's about a HIGH SCHOOL softball team that gets lost in the Everglades. And then they have this teen & another teen with their boobs out. And why, cause they know it will be more likely to sell. This isn't about Feminism or Liberals or Conservatives. This is about 2 women who want their comic to sell & know that tits sell. They're hardly heroes they're just realists
I agree, implying that sexual objectification of women is suddenly ok when women do it is so dumb. The comment saying people must forget lesbians and bisexuals exist made me laugh, because it reminded me how many times I have seen self-proclaimed feminist activists rile against sexist men and the exploitation of women's bodies, but then you open their blog and it's full of soft-core pornographic photos of women. The hypocrisy of it just doesn't seem to occur to them.
Load More Replies...*laughs in anime* killed me! But in all seriousness, people seriously need to grow up. If all female characters had small boobs and very small proportions in general, it would just be boring to read. I'm glad the author stood up for her book, it looks pretty good!
Really? Like female characters cant be interesting and engaging without huge boobs?
Load More Replies...Regardless of political leanings everyone needs to get over the fact that in comic books and other things that aren't live action people are going to be stylized. Yeah the boobs might be bigger, women's waists will be cinched, men's biceps are bigger as are their pecs- so I guess everyone gets bigger boobs. I hate that people equate any of this to politics because there are people on both sides with f*ed up feelings about the human body. Sexually repressed people with body issues exist in all areas of the political spectrum, and people need to get over it. Unless it's a legit disgusting image- who is it hurting?? And by pointing it out you really are only showing more people the image. It's the Streisand Effect.
Though I agree with the artists and not the poster complaining about the art, it is foolhardy to think that women can't be misogynistic. That is true of many of the hateful ism's that plague our society. One particular example that comes to mind is Phyllis Schlafly. She led the movement to defeat the Equal Rights Amendment and was successful. Here is a short quote from her "Sexual harassment on the job is not a problem for virtuous women."
You're completely right, I don't know why you were downvoted.
