Yep. This highlights one of the big flaws of the tipping system. It isn't just about the quality of a person's work. Feelings influence tips and that includes their conscious and unconscious biases as well as things like how attractive they find the employee.

sorry, I'm just replying to Mewton. Again. I don't think you quite understand what Bob has written. They are saying that the employees should earn a living wage from the employer so they don't have to try and get by on the tips that people leave. If tipping wasn't such a large part of your culture then you wouldn't have any wait staff because they wouldn't be able to survive.

There are always jerks who won’t tip, but on average many people in hospitality make more money in a night with tips than they would a minimum wage. Emphasis on minimum because that can be the best you get in many non-tipping establishments. I have always been an advocate for tip pools as well. Some think that this would encourage some servers not to pull their own weight, but in my experience it promotes teamwork. And if you get an off night you don’t suffer. Side note it is funny with anti-capitalism being de riguer now, many service people don’t realize their position on that and then being anti-tip pooling is contradictory. I digress. Many countries that don’t have a tipping culture bake in a “service charge” anyway. How that service charge is applied is not always passed on to the server. Also in places that have cash tips it gives server and bartenders some walking money at the end of the night. A case could be made for both, and that is mine

Literally every job relies on customers to pay so that the employees can live. Stop being a cheap loser and pretending to care about employees when you just don’t want to tip.

Exactly. It is not part of service in bars where I go, but somewhere it might be. Then it would make sense to reflect it in the tip.

That’s beyond a racist comment though. It’s wage discrimination based on race which is a protected class. Her tip isn’t speech, it’s the wage of the worker.

Not true. Many restaurants and customers have gotten fined during the pandemic for failing to uphold COVID guidelines. In the US, specifically.

Depends on the state. Some people have been put on house arrest for failing to follow the guidelines.

If that person gets another person sick, and they die, then their political statement just became murder one. We've already got the precedent established with HIV.

Is there ANYTHING in your country that isn't political? Seems to me you have lost the ability to live your life without bringing politics into everything. For people who holler about their freedoms constantly, it seems you have none because you can't live your life on your own without politicians having a grasp of every thought and action.
