This is truly horrific. It would be really rare for this to happen in the UK (I don’t want to say it wouldn’t as there will be that one person that knew someone who couldn’t get the time off!) But blimey, that and the post before about the person’s sister, are awful. I had a day off when my dog died - for free - I just told them I’m not coming in on Monday as I had to travel home the night before to go back to bury him.

I used to work for a company that did 36 hours a week but paid for 40 hours with perfect attendance if we were even a minute passed 7 we lost the extra 4 hours pay and got a point

Hmmm...do you get paid another full day if you're early - if I was going to be late, by even a minute, I'd just take the day off, why bother?

My old employer had this requirement. But the kicker was, you also couldn't clock in before your shift started. So in reality, you had to show up to work to wait in line and everyone had exactly 1 minute to clock in.

A blatant reminder that HR is for the Companies benefit, not yours. It's sad how many peeps assume they are there for the employees.

The term 'human resources' is the most capitalist piece of brand misdirection I can think of - literally defining people as resources to exploit for profit yet we're supposed to think it's there to help us. Even more evil than the barefaced lies that are 'our values' and 'our purpose'.

I had a boss whom originally told me to call him if I was ever going to be late, then he'd be able to adjust my time, had to work as much time later to get a full 8 hours. I had a 45 minute commute (plus live where winters are harsh, single Mom). Id call him to tell him if I was occasionally running late, like 3 minutes away, worked the appropriate time at the end of the day. I also worked on a ton of extra projects outside of my job description to help improve processes, trying to advance my position/pay. As usual, during a review, my boss thanked me for greeting people that walked by me, thanked me for my help on the extra "valuable ". projects, but then commented on my being late, said he'd kept every VM of me calling in as proof and that it was a huge issue????

People trying to clock out while 8 of us trying to clock in same time and what a s#it show, manager said new rule, anyone late clocking in is classed as being out, 8 of us turned to leave and he begged us to come back so that was that crappy idea of his scrapped

Well then, if you're going to be a minute late, it makes far more sense to turn around and go back home, no?

I find this baffling. In Australia, generally, if you call in sick then the manager/boss finds cover. It's not the employee's job to do so.

I've had my gall bladder out, hospital said 5 days rest. Hysterectomy, 6 weeks. I wonder what was removed? ALso, you are not covered by insurance, either driving or at work if you act against Doctors direction. If they say you are unfit for work and you get hurt at work when you should not be there, first thing work insurance will do is claim you are responsible as an adult to not attend when you have been advised you are unfit by a doctor. Same with driving . Don't do it, they will throw you under the bus and wipe their a*s clean with your remains.

This is what my dad did which made the family a bit more richer but because of that he became extremely unhealthy and became a shadow of his former self. Now at least he’s doing much better because he has work life balance
