Ukrainian Artist Removes Makeup From Dolls To Repaint Them, And Result Is Almost Too Real
In the world of unrealistic standards and Photoshop mania, real beauty is a breath of fresh air. And while some share their unedited selfies on Instagram, Olga Kamenetskaya creates gorgeous dolls that look almost real.
Olga is a Ukranian artist who started repainting dolls as a hobby, but it later turned into her profession. She takes mass-produced dolls, such as Monster High girls or Barbies, and turns them into totally new, unique and one-of-the-kind dolls. They each have little "flaws," like real people have, which she includes by not only repainting but also modifying dolls' shapes and working with wigs. “I don’t like when the new face of the doll is ideal and perfectly symmetrical, it makes it lifeless,” Olga told Vogue. “I always deliberately leave some flaw that may not be noticeable to everyone, but [gives] the doll invisible charisma. Perhaps, this flawed beauty is the message that my dolls carry.”
Below you can find some of the amazing "flawed" beauties by Olga Kamenetskaya.

She uses different types of lino-cutters and sandpapers to change the form of the lips.

Not the same doll. The lips are completely different. Makeup cannot change the shape of the molded plastic. Plus the chin is different, as is the hairline. Don't get me wrong, this is excellent work. But make sure the before and after images are of the same doll.
Does he sculpt also? The size & shape of the nose & lips is totally different. More than paint, that.
It's a tiny tiny person with a piercing. Awesome job, the dolls look great but damn they're scary xD
Is this a hobby or did she do this for a living? I'm just wondering who would think of something like this not in a bad way. I think she's ridiculously talented. :-) It's just something odd to do and never thought of it I wouldn't even know how to do it. And I don't know how you would make money off of it if it's not a hobby? Just wondering. Great work.
I was gonna say Gabrielle Union too!!! Also, looks like it still has some makeup on...
I love how much more of a realistic eye color she gave this doll. Dark eyes can be stunning, and shouldn't be whitewashed into hazel.
Damn, I see Helen Hunt (who I was never too crazy about- and definitely not MAD about! Lol
I really dont know which one of these I like the most, so I love them all!
I disagree. Molds are very basic and often the original paint does not even fit since molds are used for many different face paints (notice the overdrawn bottom lip in the original paint). The repaint is just contoured differently and also lit very differently as well. Go watch some make up artist videos on contouring to see how it can change the shape of an actual human face in the same way. It's magic!
Load More Replies...Focus just on her face, and the cool undertone with the freckles and contrasting brassy red hair. Porcelain completions really can be this pale, especially with redheads.
If not for the doll's neck, you could believe it to be a real person!
He must re-shape the whole face too or this is not the same doll head.
Wondering if sandpaper/some kind of file can shape it. Looks like they just shaved off some of the hard jaw lines
Load More Replies...Isn‘t it a complete different head? The chin, jawbone is different, isn’t it?
Don't like the new lips on this one. Too much 'filler'. This is the only one where I have preferred the original.
It's Natalia Vodianova - Russian model and philanthropist. She is the face of the perfume lines of Dior, Gucci, Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton, L'Oréal, Marc Jacobs and Miss Sixty....
Is that Raven queen? She looks better after but I kind of wish it kept her hair even though I love the new hair
nah brah that's popy'o hair I used to watch and read that series

Really creepy. Monster high doll faces are more wider and bigger. Looks better on barbies.
it's very impressive! but how can you change the color of the hair? I mean how can you decolour a dolls hair, with what reagent without ruining the doll's hair and then color it so beautifully uniformly? (sorry, I'm not an expert at dying hair)
They probably re rooted her hair, because it's a completely different texture.

Gorgeous, but maybe tone down the lips a little. There aren't that many Angelina Jolies' out there
WHY does female dolls have lips that look like they've been stung by a bee or had a severe allergic reaction?!
Never move everything then why did they even show up before picture ?
Yeah, but in a Fun House mirror. She's got northern-hemisphere Mercator Projection distortion. You could park Greenland between her eyebrows.
Load More Replies...I like that the Monster High ones are keeping with the theme of the doll, rather than changing them completely.
Kinda had too ... with the horns coming out of head.
Load More Replies...I would have transformed this doll into Maleficent, but I like this one too.
at last someone noticed! and there was another doll (one time transformed into that girl with a nose piercing) which appeared two times!? why would someone have more identical dolls!?
Load More Replies...I believe this is the infamous Emma Watson, Belle doll that was accused of looking too much like Justin Bieber. A few other artists have given it a makeover, in defense of her honor. Earrings are so too much.
The one on the left is horrible. They could've done much better... clearly
Huge lips, tiny nose, gorgeous freckles everyone loves, perfect jawline and perfect brows = flawed and realistic?
They wouldn't look beady by real human proportions.

Reminds me of Glen/Glenda from seed of chucky a little. Sorry! I can't help but see it.
If I hadn't seen Chappie I wouldn't know who the hell that is. She stole the show!

If this evil creeper shows up in my dreams tonight I'll have to quit Bored Panda forever.
The details, such as the veins in this one's forehead, are the magical touches for this artist.
Pink frost lipstick is a bit daring, but I agree, teeth were completely unnecessary. And a woman with her cheek bones does not need that much contouring.
Load More Replies...I don't think one is the same doll. Lips are different shape {that is plastic mold), ears are smaller, bridge of nose is different.
l was thinking the exact same thing..the first doll's nose is broader and the lips narrower and wider..not to mention his hair is plastic..
Load More Replies...when I think about the structure of plastic for the mouth, I don't understand how this is possible.
i think there is a bit of photoshop going on cos the nose is a diff shape and so are the lips.
She sometimes uses sandpaper and other tools to remold the faces.

For those interested in a deeper exploration of how she transforms beauty standards through her art, this detailed look at her unique approach offers insightful context: a closer examination of her doll repainting technique.
The artistic skills are incredible and I was amazed at the amount of detail that went into all the new dolls. Excellent work! However, I find them way too creepy and prefer the original versions more. The creepiness is due to the fact that they're so realistic yet their proportions are off, especially around the eyes. Uggg!
I agree. Most have completely different lips and noses. Some lips are much thinner and some are fuller. Not to mention the different chins and facial shapes. You can't just change plastic that way.
Load More Replies...I like when she makes eyes realistic, however I am not a fan of "droling" lips.
I’m sorry but this is exactly the beauty standard problem. A doll that comes with tons of makeup on exaggerated features and looks like a cartoon human is already a bit of a problem, sending a message that heavy makeup and exaggerated features is the beauty goal. But then the artist even takes away the super heavy makeup and keeps the same perfect tiny noses and plumps up the already enormous lips and keeps the big, almond shaped eyes and has the audacity to call it “flawed,” as if anyone in 2018 thinks plump lips, freckles or foundation-free highlighted skin is a flaw and not an asset. The message used to be: wear makeup to have these features and look perfect. Now the message is: you should be born with these perfect features AND you get to insist that you’re daring and “real” for not wearing makeup even though you have features people use makeup to achieve. You can look down on those people and somehow be applauded for it.
The faces are kostly contour and shading to get the effect. The makeup is repainting the doll. This artistry is amazing. The body dismorphia of the dolls boosies is weird to see.
Load More Replies...I wonder how she modifies the shapes in some doll heads? Hot water or maybe some plastic clay?
No doubt she's talented and I'm impressed. However, I'd like to see her redo Chucky so I could be 100% creeped out instead of the 90% i am now.
But that's some awesome talent I mean I CAN BARELY DRAW A STRAIGHT LINE.
