We adopted some abandoned kittens… my older cat Lilly started hissing and growling at them… I was super worried. A few days later I found her like this with the little boy kitten but grooming his head and I thought my heart would explode.

haha the same thing happened with us. We adopted a kitten, nobody likes her for a few days. We started her off in a different room and everything too. Our other three cats would sit outside of the door meowing and hissing. Especially our boy cat. Now everyone loves her, and she snuggles with everyone. Especially our older cat, who is also named Lily! She's a biological sister to our other older cat, Tulip. Tulip is slowly warming up to Sunflower, and last month they laid together for the first time! Our boy cat, Carrot, plays with the kitten. She's starting to play so much to the point where he's tired now. Everyone agrees that we're not getting anymore pets, the dynamic is too perfect and we don't want to mess it all up

Looks just like my Rusty, my trusty companion for 7 years, 20odd years ago. Got my first dog 5 years ago and I love when he sits on my lap, but I really miss the comfort of a cat's purr.

Many of the cats in this post are pure white. Are white cats rare? I lost my beautiful ex feral white boy to throat cancer a few months ago and then woke up one morning and found another pure white stray sitting on my front door step. Coincidence? Does attracting pure white cats mean something? Anyone know?

First off, black cat. Some crooks are superstitious (or at least a “little stitious”), and are actually scared of black cats. Second, ever been sliced by a cat? They are lightning fast with their “punches”, where they also unsheath their claws. Takes you a while to realize you’re bleeding. It’s also how they establish authority over enormous dogs. And people too. Lastly, ever seen the news reports of cats that thwart burglaries by attacking and chasing off burglars? Yep, dogs no longer have the home security market cornered.

cats can be vicious if they don't like you. One of our cats absolutely hates strangers. If anyone gets near her when she's watching a stranger, or sometimes just when the stranger is in the house, you will bleed. My best friend was over, mind you she's over a lot, we were making a cake in the kitchen. We went into the pantry to get something, and when we turned around, there was Tulip in the hallway. I went first to protect my best friend and Tulip cut my legs through my jeans. She's cut me every year on my birthday or the day before since we've had her. So six or seven years. She also lays with me later that day, or the next day. Doesn't matter if people are over or not, she did it during COVID too lol.

There’s always one in every litter. The friendly greeter. Not a bit afraid of humans. Will calmly approach and be incredibly cute and sweet. Like they chose you, and only you, especially. Of course it totally melts you and you adopt them on the spot—-if you have even one heart cell still alive, that is.

It's a scam. Two tiny black kittens were sitting in a big cage at the pet store. That store didn't sell animals, but the proprietor said someone had dropped them off in a box, so he just wanted to find them a home. The "friendly greeter" rushed forward and did his thing, making us fall instantly in love. We decided to take him. My daughter held him on her shoulder as we headed for the register, I trailed behind her. The kitten pointed his paw back and cried, "But what about my sister?" We looked back at the tiny, pitiful, scrawny black kitten cowering all alone in the big cage and couldn't leave her behind. And that's how we got Lily and Dash.

I remember waiting to deboard a cruise ship, everyone in the theater. It was just after the US 2016 election when Trump got elected, and they had TVs playing with the news. No one wanted to get back to the real world and watch that, so the room was very loud. They changed the TVs to Tom and Jerry, and everyone sat watching in dead silence. It was perfect.

My cat does this sometimes. Lay next to me on my chair and stretch one leg out to rest a paw on my arm or hand. Not sure if warmth or making sure I am there or what. Neither of those answers quite fit based on how much of the time she doesn't do it.

Not a cat but I'm sure my dogs learned to pat because that's what we do to them. Patting the dog is a gesture of affection so they repeat it. I've watched my older one doing it to the new pup. I would not be at all surprised if cats are the same.

I've got into the habit of filling up the sink with really hot water when I shower. Afterwards, I drain and dry the sink and my fat cat jumps in for a nap. It must be like sleeping with a hot water bottle. I think cat is maybe a bit spoilt.

This is what I WANTED when I adopted my second cat. Instead, little brother bops big sister in the literal bútthole 50 times a day with his paw. Big sister responds with goblin noises and runs off. Little brother gives chase, resulting in more goblin noises from big sister. Rinse and repeat XD

I used to have littermate sisters. They were the best of buds for several years - then things changed, and they became enemies. Fortunately, at the time I lived in a townhouse so I was able to keep them separate. Whenever they met, did the fur fly! I eventually rehomed one.

I do too! I didn't believe this was a real x-ray of a cat's paw - it doesn't match the skeletal structure of an actual paw - but apparently the bones of a kitten's paw appear "disconnected" on x-rays because the bones are still developing! :D So that's a kitten paw x-ray. However, the "paw on the hand" part is fake - the original kitten paw x-ray is by itself, not on top of a human hand. It's still adorable even if the final product is photoshopped together XD

It's a rare gene expression, genetically speaking. It's autosomal recessive. On the primary gene for expression of feline coat color, brown (or chocolate) is recessive (b). When that allele is "filled" by the dominant version of the gene (B), the cat's coat is black (sometimes called "wild-type black"). Black cats can be "carriers" of the chocolate gene, and if bred to another black-coated chocolate carrier, they will produce 25% chocolate kittens in a typical litter. If a B/B black cat is bred to a B/b black cat, or to a b/b chocolate cat, there will be no chocolate kittens. So, in most breeds of cats, including moggies/domestic shorthairs, it's rare to see a chocolate cat :) There are some breeds where brown/chocolate is a breed standard (such as the Havana Brown), wherein selective breeding has caused a normally-recessive coat color to become dominant. So, tl;dr, brown cats are a recessive form/less melanistic form of black cats, genetically speaking!

I’ve had cats who would lie like this under my bed, and walk—-or run—-in circles on the bottom of my box springs. Wouldn’t have been an issue, only it’s kind of noisy and also shakes the bed when they really get going fast—- and they all did it in the middle of the night while I was trying to sleep.

This is just landfill~~re-use your bottles. There are BPA-free [w/attractive designs, shapes & small, med, lg] water bottles for under $10 at Target, Amazon, &c. Fill ¾ w/water, put into freezer & you'll have cold water at home or work melting all day. [Only plastic bottles, glass ones will crack.] Block of ice is also a good weapon; he grabs you from behind, you swing bottle over your shoulder & crack his cranium. [All water bottles have handles, shoulder straps or paracord handles to carry.]

Someone dumped a couple cats on my daughter's land. They promptly birthed 8 and 9 kittens. She now has 17 tiny, fluffy, adorable kittens. Her very old cat is trying to raise them, smacking the new mama cats when kits are neglected. Grandma Cat FTW
