Former United States President John F. Kennedy once said, “Tolerance implies no lack of commitment to one's own beliefs. Rather it condemns the oppression or persecution of others.” Since the election the majority of U.S citizens feel that race relations have gotten worse. These poor race relations coincide with a record high in political divides, reaffirming the popular phrase that the U.S is now a nation divided.

It can all seem overwhelming at times, so stop and take a minute. Take a break from the bad news on your social media feeds, the political pundits, and hateful rhetoric. Bored Panda wants you to remember all the good things that still happen day to day and that we can all do a small part in bringing more tolerance. We have gathered a list of stories that show random acts of kindness people have shown to their fellow citizens, and we hope it will restore some faith you have in humanity. Scroll down below and don't forget to vote for your favorites!

That was always the hardest thing growing up, Mum having time and energy to do that when I was little, sometimes our elderly neighbour would do it when doing his own, it was so kind. Good on this great people.

She Took Me In 15 Years Ago And No One Makes Me As Happy. We Had The Best Xmas. I Love My Grandma So Much

She Took Me In 15 Years Ago And No One Makes Me As Happy. We Had The Best Xmas. I Love My Grandma So Much

I grew up in a kids home (orphanage) after losing my parents. She was my key worker there as well as my carer. When I was too old to live there and had to move out.

She was retiring at the time after 40 years as a carer and said that she couldn't stand to lose me, which kinda works out great because I love her and I couldn't stand to lose her either.

Man In Red Needed Help With Son's Math Homework And Got It From A Stranger On The Subway

So today on my way from work the guy in the red sat down opened up his folder and started reading. A few stops later the guy next to him sat down and asked him what he's studying: "You look a little confused maybe I can help?". He says his son failed a math test: "They're learning fractions so I'm just teaching myself this over again so I can help him I'm 42 & don't know any of this so I'm re teaching myself." The guy in the black informed him he use to be a math teacher so he asked the guy to quiz him and everything he got wrong or was confused about he broke it down and corrected him. By the end of my train ride the guy in the red had a better understanding. He can bring home a new method and teach his child. I really love seeing things like this especially in New York.

If the had a choice then trash, Martha, that's who. Trash. And Nikki is an angel. Of course, to be fair, there might have been extenuating circumstances that kept his family away and the guy simply couldn't understand their absence, in which case Nikki is still an angel!

My grandma had dementia and we decided to keep her at home. She had a nurse come every day to change her and bathe her but i was there, with her. Even when she asked who i was and had no idea or when she got mad and didn't want to eat i sat with her and ate next to her to encourage her to eat with me. She died in my arms one day after i got home from an exam in university. I understand the tough choice of not being able to care for someone but this is horrible.

This happened a LOT when I worked at an elder-care home. Many families had said they were coming to get the old person, so we'd get them cleaned & dressed up, and they'd be left waiting out-front, and nobody would come, and we'd call & call. Horrendous. I'd love there to be a foster-grandkids program to call to take these folks out for the day if this happens, or just do it "because".

I wonder ... was it REALLY Christmas? I see no decorations or anything in that room. Maybe this young lady just SAID it was Christmas to make this gentleman feel happy. Maybe he wouldn't know the difference, and Christmas is a happy time for him, and she knew that. Whatever the circumstances, she is a lovely young lady and made him feel special.

Awesome Professor

A girl in my geography class had to bring her newborn to class today. The baby started crying in the middle of our quiz. When she took him out to hold him, my professor insisted that he wouldn't mind feeding the baby and rocking his car seat until she was done. This is my so so awesome, sweet professor, on his knees.

Here in southern Ohio folks wear the Confederate flag in order to DECLARE that they are racist (and frequently profess other bigotries as well). They will say it's to show pride in their Southern heritage, then spew racist viewpoints, then reassert that said racism is part of their Southern heritage. The Confederate flag might have had non-racist usage in some instances in the past, but if you're seeing it north of the Mason-Dixon Line today, it's frequently used as a declaration of hatred.
