But before getting yourself into a full-blown home-made spa, you might wanna know some tips about basic beauty treatments.
If you feel like you need a hair trim, you'd better take some time off from cutting altogether. Stay focused on your hair health and consider adding conditioning masks or moisturizing treatments to your beauty routine. After the crisis is over, you will be stunned to see your luscious locks well-rested and ready to take on the summer look.
Another great tip is to try washing your hair less. Start slow—skip days at a time and see how your locks are feeling. There are natural oils on our scalp that boost hair health, but we usually wash them all off in daily shampooing sessions.

Ponytail first and then chop of the end. Damp hair, smooth into a low ponytail and then keep the amount you cut off to a minimum. If you repeat the process from start to finish it ends up pretty even.
Another great tip is washing your hair less. Start slow—skip days at a time and see how your locks are feeling. There are natural oils on our scalp that boost hair health, but we usually wash them all off in daily shampooing sessions.
You can definitely try out a quarantine nail salon at home. But it’s better to stay away from gel or dip manicures altogether. A regular polish of your fave color is a great way to get that lively look. Try out colors that you usually don’t wear—quarantine is a judgement-free zone, and it’s an excellent time to experiment a little.

Today my partner learned that you shouldn’t put off a haircut until the apocalypse when the only person left to do it (we’re in NYC) is your girlfriend who has never even trimmed her own ends. He calls this look “Cambodian garbage Hitler.”

Or if you do use the trimmer guards. Start with the highest number as you can always go shorter. Longer on top, shorter on back and sides. I have a six on top, and a combo of four, three, two as I get closer to the edges.

Why don't people look at online guides? There are plenty of videos showing people how to do an easy trimmer haircut. It isn't difficult. My sister always did her sons hair.

Ugh, try your own nails for the duration. The break might do them some good as acrylics can damage the nail and in some cases cause fungal infections.

I’m not a hairdresser. Corona forced me to be a hair dresser. This is why I am not and should not be a hairdresser. (I had my phone in my hand and it accidentally took a burst pic which captured the “what have I done” look on my face)

I think her nails are actually gel nail polish, which can be very hard+damaging to remove without getting the polish removed at a salon, and because of that difficulty, she has been letting her nails grow out.

All ya gotta do is soak cotton balls in standard polish remover, put cotton ball on top of nail, wrap each tip with foil to hold cotton ball in place. Wait like 30 minutes and chip away. I did mine last week

One question: if people are in quarantine, why TF do they "desperately" need a haircut??? It's just hair. Let it grow and visit your hairdresser when it all ends. I let my fringe grow, I wouldn't dare to touch it with scissors!

My children both look like shaggy little hippies and I am totally fine with that. There's no way I'm touching their hair. I might try that ponytail trick with mine though. I don't have an ounce of vanity, but I live on a farm, so I have practicality to spare. It's windy in northern Missouri and my hair is annoying the hell out of me.

Clearly, most of these are the result of trying to use electric clippers freehand to cut for length. Don't do that. If your set of clippers didn't come with a set of snap-on guides, you can get them separately. The guides are for length. They're numbered from 1/2 up to 6, from shorter to longer respectively. Most clipper sets come with these guides (including tapered ones for doing around each ear), comb, scissors, apron, and small battery-powered clippers for trimming edges.

I don't get the desperation for nails - let some healthy nail grow for a while - and most of the hair wouldn't be so bad if you took it slowly, a little trim at a time. I'm guessing some of these people are still going to work, or maybe spending some time on video conferences? Some are maybe bored, and some are just that vain. I know my stylist has some customers who have their hair trimmed every week or two. I grew up around several little old ladies who went to have their hair done every week, but they could do it at home in a pinch.

Myself and all my hair stylist friends are forgoing all hair maintenance in solidarity with our clients. We have let them know we will wait it out with them, please don't worry about your hair and definitely don't home cut, we may all be shaggy when it's over but we'll be alive!

I think it took me maybe one try to perfect the home clipper cut. The tradeoff is that it takes nearly two hours, but i only do it like twice a year and the results are pretty much indistinguishable from a salon cut. It's not too hard to make things symmetric, even when working by feel alone.

I trim the ends off my own hair and I do my husband's hair. I've only ever heard positive things from other people- except for sometimes him because we occasionally have different definitions of the words "trim" and "just the sides"- and I've gotten quite good at it. I feel like people just aren't thinking about what they're doing and figuring it's easy. Start with reading, watching videos, looking at images of the style you want, and when you actually start cutting go slowly. These really do look like someone started with too much enthusiasm and not enough planning.

Ok. Here's the thing: (1) If you have a goddamn smart phone and time to take pics of your failures, by default, you also have time to access Youtube and make informed decisions; (2) hair is logical. It follows the skin fiber. That's the logic tested time and time again by hair stylists. Cutting hair is not a science. Really, there are no excuses for these disasters.

I don't get how, if these people have clippers, they can do such a bad job. Ours have different length combs, start with a long one, work down until you're happy with it. The worst you can do is have it all the same length all over a bit shorter than you intended. It's when people try to do fancy things they have no experience of they get these c**k ups. Still, it's hair, it will grow back. Just don't try cosmetic surgery, ok?

I've had to cut my own hair for a long time, I have massive allergies to the many chemicals in salons. Right now it's so long, I'm just letting it grow for the heck of it. Long, straight, so many fun things can be done, my fave is sleeping in braids, then in the morning taking them out and finger combing. Voila, awesome wavy hair!

I've been cutting my husband's hair for 30 years. By the time my hair was three weeks overdue for a cut, I started looking online for how to vids for short, wavy/curly hair. Didn't learn a thing. Gave up. Two days later I woke up, looked at myself in the mirror, said "OK, that's IT!", and without coffee, or breakfast, or time to talk myself out of it, I grabbed scissors and cut my own hair. The hardest part was cutting the back by feel alone. It actually looks pretty good, and I may continue to cut it myself after all this is over.

I was 3 weeks overdue for a haircut. Have been cutting my husband's hair for 30 years. Checked out "How To" on the net for my own hair - didn't learn anything. Gave up. Next morning I woke up, looked at myself in the mirror, "OK, that's IT!" grabbed the scissors, and cut my hair - without coffee - without breakfast. It actually looks pretty darned good! The hardest part was cutting the back by feel. Not sure what that looks like, since I haven't dared look at the back. I may keep doing it myself after this is all over and save $$.

For pete's sake, cutting short hair with clippers is not rocket science. 1. Start with the longest blade-guard you have, and work down to the shorter ones. 2. Watch what you're doing, and periodically stop to take stock of what's happening. The result may not be perfect, but unless you are drunk, blind, or have a physical coordination problem, you can do better than this. (And since your a*s should only be out the house once a week, do after you get back, and any mistakes will even out before anybody sees it.)

Ok. Here's the thing: (1) If you have a goddamn smart phone and time to take pics of your failures, by default, you also have time to access Youtube and make informed decisions; (2) hair is logical. It follows the skin fiber. That's the logic tested time and time again by hair stylists. Cutting hair is not a science. Really, there are no excuses for these disasters.

I don't get how, if these people have clippers, they can do such a bad job. Ours have different length combs, start with a long one, work down until you're happy with it. The worst you can do is have it all the same length all over a bit shorter than you intended. It's when people try to do fancy things they have no experience of they get these c**k ups. Still, it's hair, it will grow back. Just don't try cosmetic surgery, ok?

I've been giving my husband haircuts before it was cool. My mom has done my dad's over 40 years and she's no hairdresser, and I'm not a professional but my husband lets me play with his hair every month. Satisfied customer everytime!

My pity is limited. What the hell is the problem with some longer hair for a few weeks??? Do the men worry they'll lose their manliness?? Adn who cares about stupid nails, when you spend all day at home, anyway?

I can't understand it... in a lot of this before pictures, the hair was short. It was good. Why would you like to cut it so desperately? But one thing is for sure... when the quarantine is over, all the hairdressers are gona have A LOT of work!! Good for them!!

Just google videos explaining how to do it. That's what I did for my brother's hair. I'm an 18 y.o. who never cut hair before and my brother's turned out fine.

Whenever my dad asked me to cut his hair (with clippers), I always asked how far down his neck he wanted things shaved. His hair went down his back, as in grew

I’ve asked my husband to grow his hair longer for most of our relationship. He finally is now.(not by choice!) He’s got a great beard but usually has a conservative haircut. Naturally his hair is thick and wavy. Catana Comics gets it. 😍

I've had to cut my own hair for a long time, I have massive allergies to the many chemicals in salons. Right now it's so long, I'm just letting it grow for the heck of it. Long, straight, so many fun things can be done, my fave is sleeping in braids, then in the morning taking them out and finger combing. Voila, awesome wavy hair!

I've been cutting my husband's hair for 30 years. By the time my hair was three weeks overdue for a cut, I started looking online for how to vids for short, wavy/curly hair. Didn't learn a thing. Gave up. Two days later I woke up, looked at myself in the mirror, said "OK, that's IT!", and without coffee, or breakfast, or time to talk myself out of it, I grabbed scissors and cut my own hair. The hardest part was cutting the back by feel alone. It actually looks pretty good, and I may continue to cut it myself after all this is over.

I was 3 weeks overdue for a haircut. Have been cutting my husband's hair for 30 years. Checked out "How To" on the net for my own hair - didn't learn anything. Gave up. Next morning I woke up, looked at myself in the mirror, "OK, that's IT!" grabbed the scissors, and cut my hair - without coffee - without breakfast. It actually looks pretty darned good! The hardest part was cutting the back by feel. Not sure what that looks like, since I haven't dared look at the back. I may keep doing it myself after this is all over and save $$.

For pete's sake, cutting short hair with clippers is not rocket science. 1. Start with the longest blade-guard you have, and work down to the shorter ones. 2. Watch what you're doing, and periodically stop to take stock of what's happening. The result may not be perfect, but unless you are drunk, blind, or have a physical coordination problem, you can do better than this. (And since your a*s should only be out the house once a week, do after you get back, and any mistakes will even out before anybody sees it.)
