My name is Dick van Duijn and I'm a wildlife photographer who went viral with the photos of the ground squirrel smelling a yellow flower. I made another special squirrel photo this fall.
This time, I traveled to Belgium to photograph jumping squirrels from a small wooden hut in a forest with beautiful autumn colors. I took a seat in the cabin one hour before sunrise and left there just before sunset. I spent almost 8 hours there to capture this beautiful leap.
I took a special photo of a jumping squirrel this fall

Naturally, I take pictures of other animals besides squirrels as well. However, squirrels can be incredibly difficult to photograph because of how agile they are. I previously photographed jumping squirrels, but what makes these images so beautiful are the bright red/orange colors in the background and the posture of the squirrel, which flies through the air like a real superman.
Bored Panda has previously shared some of my photographs here and here. Hope you will like my animal pictures!

Load More Replies...The purpose of my travel is to photograph animals. The last few years I have planned trips especially to photograph certain animals.
In December I'm planning to go and try to photograph the Iberian lynxes in Spain and in January I will go to Costa Rica. That country has always been on top of my bucket list.
TIL: Not since February of 2005 when it was banned in England and Wales, and 2002 for Scotland. But it's still legal in Northern Ireland, Australia, France, Canada, Italy and (are you 🤬 kidding me🙀) the USA. (I didn't know that until I Googled to see if they still have them in England.)
Load More Replies...I have always been crazy about animals and their behavior. And for a few years, I have also photographed them. I still want to photograph penguin chicks in Antarctica, that’s my dream. It’s very expensive to go there, but I hope someday I can make this trip.
Yeah, like rip Caro's garden to smithereens and break pots on her terrace.
Load More Replies...Oh wow, how did you get this photo? Aren't they normally active at night?
Yeah seriously lucky, it's winter there. Usually if they are out during daylight it's just before sunset in the summer🦡🐾🦡
Load More Replies...That sucks, they're going to regret it when they're overrun with rodents, lizards and frogs. Someone should tell them what happened in Australia when they messed with their predators.
Load More Replies...Their voices don't match the serenity of their faces at all, but I love Barn owls.
"Literally saying" that? Um, No and they don't kill people either. Literally hoot, chirp, whistle, screech, scream, bark, growl or shriek, yes.
Load More Replies...Sometimes you need a lot of patience when photographing animals and you don’t always succeed. Sometimes you have to go back several times to the same place to try to take pictures again. As I mentioned, I spent 8 hours photographing in order to get this one perfect picture of a superman squirrel. You should never lose hope.
Why do humans always pick flowers just bend and sniff if satisfied eat!
My late, beloved weimeraner Jaeger used to always stop and smell the yarrow when circling our backyard, then smile. You are a gifted photographer, thank you for sharing and inspiring!
What a smashing name for a Wei. Sorry for your loss
Load More Replies...No apology necessary, that's an excellent pun👏😻👍
Load More Replies...A whole walnut - all to my self better scoff it here, even though by butts getting damp!
Sometimes, when it's the rutting season of the red deer, I go to National Park De Hoge Veluwe in the Netherlands. You can photograph them very well in the afternoon there.
In The Netherlands, we also have many red foxes, especially in the dunes at the coast and at industrial areas at the Dutch coast.
D**k - just take the picture and remember I am KING - yes I'm serious!
D**k is the name of the guy who took the photo! I'm not calling him a D**k! (blank the second one not the first!)
Load More Replies...😱AARGH!!! I Googled it, now I won't sleep well tonight🙀
Load More Replies...sadly clive's choice of a Barry Manilow number failed to attract the ladies
How cool that his eyes are the same color as the foliage! Great photo!
Right! I learned that if it's charging with ears extended, it's likely to be "just" a mock charge, but trunk up and ears out like this is a "gtfo" vibe
Load More Replies...Are you telling me that you have heard of an elephant with big ears that can fly?
The photographer calls it a ground squirrel right at the top:"My name is D**k van Duijn and I'm a wildlife photographer who went viral with the photos of the ground squirrel smelling a yellow flower." Prairie dogs are a kind of ground squirrel. Myself, I guess this is a European ground squirrel / European souslik. They are smaller but both animals are unbelievably cute.
Load More Replies...am i the only one that thought the hands were his mouth and thought he stretched his mouth really wide
Idk but that tail looks a bit short for a squirrel, I'm guessing young Prarie dog maybe? *edit: Yvonne D.B. just reminded me that Prarie dogs are a kind of ground squirrel, silly me🤪
Load More Replies...👩⚕️I just want to bring it home and vet that injury 🥺 before it gets infected🧑⚕️
Just in case you are wondering about that myth...a duck's quack DOES ECHO🦆🦆🦆
Wolves are vital to the ecosystem. Check out the improvement before and after pic of Yellowstone since the wolf 🐺 was reintroduced to their Natural Habitat in 1995.
Ikr, 😾 I can't believe they're bringing back the culls, 🤬moronic💩💩💩
Load More Replies...I love wolves - they are so majestic and in control - this is my spirit animal!
Unfortunately you are probably correct. Odds are that they were separated from the mothers so people can have the milk (dairy farms).
Load More Replies...If I can hang on really well I may be able to get a drink -I'm parched!
SIMBAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!! (sorry all had to do it. I have Lion King-itis)
definitely read Lion King tits... slightly different thing
Load More Replies...This is definitely a Lynx. I chased a Bobcat off one of my geese that it had dragged into the bushes, so I've seen one from (waaay too too) close up. Before you ask...I saw it drag her from a distance and thought it was the neighbor's tomcat until I was right on top of it, in the bushes.
Yes, I'm coming to you - believe me you have nothing to worry about!
Go away idiots! MY TERRITORY!!!!!!! *angryy fox noises#*&%!)(*^^^^%$^&*(*
What's-a-matter I sing as long and as loud s I want to wanna make something of it?
climate change, polutions, shrinking of habitat, poaching ,,,,,
Load More Replies...To me they always look as if they are about to cry - guess they know what we're doing to his earth!
👸Sorry Your Majesty🤴 I beg your forgiveness🧎🏼♀️
Load More Replies...You mean "habitat"? 😈Evil Auto-correct😈 I'm guessing.
Load More Replies...People are destroying their habitat and killing them on sight...just because.
Load More Replies...I had one as a foster. Nearly dead when found laying in a puddle. Was a wonderful animal. My cat hated him... Shredder was his name.
Load More Replies...Seriously hard YES to that. After 25+yrs I still can't unsee the flayed neck of the Arabian horse that was boarded at a horse ranch we used to run where the owners refused to let us replace that crap. Poor thing ran into the wire in the dark while being chased by coyotes. His jugular vein was exposed, we could see it pulsating with every beat of his heart😬😖 I understand that it's cheaper and easier than wood fencing, but not when you factor in vet/Dr bills and lose of life and work time to deal with the consequences...💸
Load More Replies...It's fun to look at them sideways, you never know what you may "see". The mandarin duck in this post was one of the best I've ever seen for this. It looks like a crazy praying mantis head, startled myself w/it.
Load More Replies...You just need a hat, an maybe a touch of beakstick
Load More Replies...Some Fish: *sins* That Fish: I didn't do it. It was Matt Their Group: I am sorry Matt but your sins will never be forgiven. We'll have to execute u Kingfisher: *executes all*
Amazing and beautiful. I wish we had squirrels in Australia!
Mr. van.Duijin - Thank you for showing the beautiful critters in nature. you don't know what it means to us who can't do these nature treks even though we want too. All the photos are beautiful but my favorite is the wolf - I feel a kin ship to them. I t makes me sad that I can't see them for real - so please keep showing your work to us. My day is now happy - Thanks again!
Oh look, you did🤪...😹🤣😹 *edit: That was weird 🤔 it was posted twice but when I hit the reply button the 2nd one vanished along with the upvotes. Must be a glitch in the Matrix 🙉
