What’s social media all about? Keeping in touch with your family and friends, as well as making new connections, right? Well, it should be. But just like the internet, social media is a rusty double-edged sword laced with toxic goo—far from everything is as wholesome as the cat pictures you’ll find on Bored Panda.
Most people want to be loved, adored, and to be in the spotlight. In short, they want attention and adoration. Unfortunately, a sizeable chunk of humankind is prepared to do anything for that, morals, common sense, and decency be damned.
From acting plain idiotic to doing some downright immoral stuff that would make the local priest splash them with holy water, the people who are prepared to go to extreme lengths just for internet fame end up on the r/justforsocialmedia subreddit. Check out the best of the worst below, upvote the ones that impressed you with their awfulness the most, and share any similar stories in the comment section.
Bored Panda spoke about why some people tend to do pretty much anything for a splash of fame with redditor Blank-Cheque, one of the moderators at the 'Just For Social Media' subreddit. According to them, the internet is a contributing factor in hunting for attention. "I'd say a lot of these people would've done stupid stuff anyway, but the internet gives them extra incentive and lets them share it with others." Scroll down for their other insights.

The same happens each year in the Netherlands when Chinese tourists come to visit the tulip fields. They are like a biblical plague of grasshoppers destroying entire fields. That's why a lot of Dutch plant-breeders have stopped opening their businesses for the public.

If they asked for it on the side, it’s really none of your business why they want it on the side. I’ve been a server, and I’ve never had Instagram, but you can’t be mad at someone for not wanting you to pour their sauce. Picture or not, people like to choose the amount of sauce and placement. People who don’t want condiments on the side are rare exceptions, most people want to pour their own way.

If they ordered the sauce on the side, then they have every right ask for a fresh order made the way they asked for, even if they are going to film themselves putting it on themselves. I'd order pancakes that way too so they aren't soggy with sauce after sitting under the heat lamps for 10 minutes before I get them.

All because of the changes in technology and the commodification of attention. "Seems like there's more fame to go around now, so it's easier for people to become briefly famous. Not sure if there are more people doing it but certainly more are successful."
What's more, the moderator doesn't believe that the people featured on the subreddit are giving up their morals in exchange for attention. Rather, "they may not have had them in the first place."
The ‘Just For Social Media’ online community on Reddit has 97.5k members and, even though they enjoy poking fun at people who are prepared to do pretty much anything for a sackful of silver and their 15 minutes of fame, they have some strict guidelines, too. So no sharing personal information for one, no matter how much you think that person might deserve it.

And trying to argue the environmental point of how bad they are and try to implore people to find alternative methods when people are grieving never ends well.

There was just a lawcase in German media a few days ago pointing back to an invident on new year's eve a year ago. Three women raised (banned) sky lanterns, which ignited a zoo house, killing dozens of apes. And they did it not even for attention, just for own pleasure. My son & I regularly go to the beach & we bring a few grocery bags. We take trash out we find & A LOT of the trash is mylar balloons with the string wrapped around branches/bushes. They should make it illegal here for people to let balloons go into the air as a "remeberance".

Also, some states aren't as careful as others when it comes to foster kids. Especially older ones, babies and toddlers are easy to find homes for. Some systems are so overloaded that "warm body" is the main criteria for foster or adoptive parents

Adoption is not something to take lightly. Kids who are up for adoption have trauma. Not 'might have' trauma. They HAVE trauma, period. Because being seperated from your family is traumatic. Not even to start on possible abuse or neglect. So there are extra challenges for the adopted kids and the parents. To extra further their trauma by giving them up for adoption a second time, blows my mind. Who are these people? They are definitely not parents. Because parents put their children first, empathize with them and do everything in their might to help them heal. Everytime I hear that an adopted LGBT-person is kicked out of their house for being different, my heart breaks. Taking in a child (or a pet for that matter) is for the rest of their life. There might be moments that you don't like them very much. But after you are done hiding in the bathroom with a piece of chocolate, it is your damn task to love them, keep them safe and guide them.

Well said. And as a mother (not adopted children) I get the hiding in the bathroom with a piece of chocolate, well for me it's a bag of chips, lol. My kids are now grown and I no longer wish to do that, but every parent has those moments. And you get through them. I do understand that having a special needs child is particularly challenging, but I have to wonder if they were screened properly to take on this responsibility.

I think people from the USA aren’t aware how bizarre this whole re-homing system is to people from other countries. You could NEVER give a child to a different family here as if it was... a pet you no longer wanted. I cannot understand how a modern developed country can sanction something like that. I feel that social media made it look easy and also made it easier to get widely spread attention and that's what people seem to crave. In doing so, they do the most ignorant things you could never imagine. Auschwitz was devided in three zones: Auschwitz-I, Auschwitz II-Birkenau and Auschwitz III-Monowitz. Birkenau is the part is where the gaschambers hold place and at this picture you see the gate of Auschwitz Birkenau. So @karol you are partly right but it IS Auschwitz!!! Idiots do this in Texas, too. They find magnificent fields of bluebonnets and drag their sorry asses and kids into the middle of the field for a "great picture" and destroy future bluebonnets. Bluebonnet seeds have to dry and "explode" from the "shell" or they rot and no flowers the next year. Not to mention they trample and destroy a painting by nature.

I did a lot of research in an attempt to repair an 'animated' snowglobe that had failed internally. They are filled with a mixture of glycerin and water, with a teeny tiny bit of either alcohol or bleach to prevent microorganisms from growing. The 'snow' is usually PVC. You would definitely have a stomachache, but it wouldn't permanently harm you.

If you ever see this, get in the way of the shot, just pretend like she and the photographer are not even there. It wasn't as bad as this, but I went on a cave tour where the second we'd move into a new room, this woman and her two daughters would race over to the interesting thing and spend most of the time taking pictures. They never even looked at the cave. I just started walking right up next to them, between them, looking over the edge or at the formation or whatever. Just pretended like they were mannequins. Ffs, this is such a sensationalist post...They don't do it with actual harmful objects. I don't understand the appeal of this type of ASMR, but it's one of those 'food that looks like other stuff' videos. They tend to be made of sugar, in various textures. They are either made in the entire shape, or in the original packaging to replace the harmful substances. Otherwise you would see bloody mouths when they eat actual glass, which would be taken down by YT and wouldn't gel with the audience.

Not only is this dangerous because of the high levels of radiation, it is vandalism of a historical site that should be visited only to commemorate the tragedy that occurred there not to take aesthetic photos for social media. Some people are so disrespectful.

Some store's lets customers do it. Those stores does expect you pay for the same package you opened. So as long as stores allowing it and he's paying for those open packages I see no problem.

Sometimes, when I'm at store and thirsty as hell, I'll open one of flasks of water (I'm planning to buy anyway) and drink. Of course I'll pay for it later. I think lots of people do this and I'm really ok with it. But doing it for likes (not even consider not paying for it!) is plain stupid.

Who cares. If someone is buying it, then that’s a dumb law which shouldn’t be followed. The filming of it is making a threat in a way, and that’s why it’s a problem. Because he might not buy them and he might be making people scared thinking they’ll get tampered with products. Which isn’t okay. Laws need to make sense.

I think it's because in the first screenshot she asked who Lily was. She only posted the others once someone probably pointed out she was a fan. Taking one photo at a meet and greet doesn't mean you know someone. Celebrities do that with hundreds of people.

i really hate assholes who think this s**t is funny, im at my limit when i see these type of people i seriously that kid doing a tik tok while his grandpa is dying LIKE ARE YOU SERIOUS RIGHT NOW, OH AND DON´T GET ME STARTED WITH INFLUENCERS WHO ASK FOR FREE STUFF , MAKE A MESS IN PUBLIC THINKING ITS FUNNY, i mean i understand they want attention but WHAT THE HELL doing all of this just for attention, I swear if one of these assholes does a ¨prank ¨ on me im sorry but im going to beat there ass i really want to know if any of these people think of what the consequences are going to be. I mean for real why all of this just for attention, WHY.
