I just read about a young woman meeting a guy's family for the first time for a holiday meal and being asked on arrival about drugs and later payment for Thanksgiving dinner at their home.
Being Canadian, I'm appalled at the cheek of these people! That includes her boyfriend, who I hope she split from.
Never have I heard of this "custom " of paying for a residential dinner.
It's a wonder they didn't charge her for the room too!
Why her boyfriend didn't think to enlighten the young woman of this in advance is unknown.
