My current boss has literally done this to other staff, deliberately tried to underpay them and push them into collecting Centrelink to "make up the rest, so it'll be just like you're getting paid normally!". She's a cow.

Little angels they all seem to be. She wants to pay almost nothing the sitter must provide quality vegan food out of what she earns is not allowed to study is not allowed to watch tv. Jeez lady,, do you think maybe you aren't a little certifiable. Your supposed to prize your children over everything yet you seem to value the mighty dollar more. Where I live it is required to stay the f**k at home when someone in your household has covid. It's called quarantine. Ask a neighbor or someone to do the shopping.

I'm confused!! Did she or did she not ask this person to come cat sit in the initial text??? Then to say her cat doesn't need watched as she is quite used to some routine but turns it around that she was offering a play date for her cat and the sitters cat!!!

Less than two bucks an hour. I'd do it for free for a close friend or relative in a bind, and have, but for a paid gig this is a joke. Look into subsidized daycare.

The only way this could work is if a group of mums got together and all chipped in for one of them to look after everyones kids. I can see taking care of your own kid +3 more for $90 per day, but one-on-one, that's not happening.

$13/hr doesn't seem awful for that in some regions. 'Especially if the sitter was allowed to bring their own kid, too. The degree requirement is classist though for sure.

In the U.S., workers are struggling for a livable wage. Note, that's different than a family wage. (Google it.) We used to have ample jobs that could support a family. No longer. We let wages stagnate. $12/hr may be what the parents are getting paid, but it's ridiculous to value a sitter's time significantly less than that.

10 hr days 5 days a week is 50 hrs. $5-6 per hr of nope.
