Audience Member Snoozes In A Concert, Hilariously Awakes With A Scream And The Orchestra’s Reaction Is The Best
For many people, classical music is the preferred choice when it’s time to relax, read or sleep. The long, ornate compositions are certainly conducive to sleep in particular, as this woman at a concert by the North State Symphony in California found out with hilarious results.
Performing the piece ‘The Firebird‘ by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky, the orchestra had apparently lulled the woman to sleep during its slower, softer parts. Suddenly however, the piece springs to life with a dramatic flourish of drum and violin, shocking the snoozing women into waking up with a loud yelp which was heard across the concert hall.
The musicians took it all in their stride, not missing a beat. Audience and musicians alike found the incident highly amusing, laughing at the sudden interruption. Something like this would be frowned upon as rude and disrespectful in many concert halls across the world, and while embarrassing for the dozing dame, it was lucky for her that the incident was taken in good humour.
The ethics of falling asleep at a concert are open to discussion, do you think this is disrespectful to the musicians or is it a natural reaction to the soothing nature of the music? Whatever you think, maybe grab a coffee before your next trip to the theatre if you don’t want to get caught out like this woman did.

Share on FacebookIt would be proper to include the name of the conductor in this post. The conductor is pretty much the star of an orchestral concert (along with any soloists). Plus, this one's hot.
If you click on the title at the top of the video (Stravinsky Firebird SCREAM), YouTube will open to the conductor's (Scott Seaton) page ...
Load More Replies...I'm the same when a boring teacher tries to explain even more boring lesson. It's so soothing and relaxing to listen to him/her. I start snoozing, drift of to some sort of dreamy nap... "How far did you get with the task?" -I'm awoken with a start by the teacher, breathing in my shoulder with the clear intension to shorten my life span with at least 5 years.
I student fell asleep in my class, so I yelled "Vagina!" He woke up immediately.
Load More Replies...I think the orchestra's response was perfect - they kept playing. I have fallen asleep at live classical concerts - if the music is that soothing, and you dozed off, I think that is a compliment!
not soooo public, but once i fell asleep in school. i thought/dreamed that i'm falling so i jumped and threw the table over.... the class was laughing and the (history) teacher asked: am i really SOOO boring? .... i was so embarrassed........... if i remember right it was when HP 5 came out, so there were a few sleepless nights..
Military basic training is very grueling and tiring and so many guys would does off during boring lectures. One time this happened and the drill instructor quietly instructed everyone to stand. Then instructed them that when he said ATTENTION real loud for them all to sit back down. He did that and when he said ATTENTION everyone immediately sat down except the dozing soldier who stood up and stuck out like a sore thumb. It was hilarious. Plus he had to do 50 push-ups 🤣
At first I wondered why the hell anyone would fall asleep at a concert. But then I heard the sound of her yelp, and you can definitely tell she’s an elderly woman. Old people are usually tired all the time so it makes sense. Poor thing, but it was still funny. Lol
Not only old people, unfortunately.... Some people just can't control it. It's frustrating. You want to enjoy life, enjoy a good film, enjoy a good concert, learn something new at school, but your eyelids just deep disobeying your commands. And when your eyelids get heavy, baby, they get heavy.
Load More Replies...Went to my scheduled orchestra night and one of the pieces was Hayden's "Surprise Symphony". It was freezing cold outside and I had walked several blocks to get the the hall, which was over heated. Of course I started dozing and when the "Surprise" came, I yelled out "What?" I was sitting front row in an upper balcony and everyone, EVERYONE could see me. The look the conductor gave me nearly killed me. Two weeks later I'm back, and just made it to my seat before the ushers closed the doors. While the conductor was giving the down beat, my overcoat slipped off the rail and gracefully fluttered to the ground. I skipped the remainder of my subscription that year.
i didnt find it very funny because i could barely even hear the person scream and only saw a couple people laughing so but the music was nice
It was a mild yelp, and the entire audience laughed xD listen to it again (if you want) and the conductor smiled
