Dad Takes Family Cat To Pet Groomer And Returns With A Cat That Looks Like Accordion
433Kviews
There probably isn’t anyone on this planet who hasn’t gotten a nightmarish haircut at some point of their lives – it happens to the best of us. But some haircuts are worse than others and that’s what makes them hilarious, especially, if it’s your beloved pet that’s sporting a new look. That’s what happened to Oliver – a handsome boy that recently became a victim of a bad haircut and went viral on the Internet because of it. This Friday, Twitter user Caitlin shared a hilarious story about Oliver’s bizarre new look, which some people compare to that of the accordion. The story quickly went viral and now Oliver the fashionista even has his own Instagram account that you can check out by following the link below.

This is Oliver and he’s flaunting his new look
A Twitter user shared the hilarious snaps of her furry friend in a now-viral thread. Apparently, the bizarre haircut was not an accident.
Recently, Twitter user Caitlin shared a hilarious story about how Oliver got his haircut
She posted a screenshot of her mom’s text along with photos of Oliver with his new look and captioned it “I’m so done with today.”
She posted the screenshot of the text sent by her mom
“I’m gonna effin kill your father!!! He dropped Oliver off for his groom and this is how he came back. Like seriously gonna puke! I’m so maddddd. Waited 2 months for this [appointment] WTF!!! I can’t even look at Oliver… He looks absolutely ridiculous,” the text said.
And took pictures of Oliver’s new haircut

We will leave it up to you to decide whether the haircut is “ridiculous” (as Caitlin’s mom said) or “avant-garde.”
Oliver was taken to the groom by Caitlin’s dad

“My father told them [grooms] to cut him like a tiger to play a joke on my mom,” Caitlin told Bored Panda. “My family loved it, we were all cracking up! My mom, however, was not too happy,” she added.

Before the grooming, Caitlin’s dad said that he “wanted strips like a tiger, do what you can.”
“My family loved it, we were all cracking up! My mom, however, was not too happy”
However, Caitlin added that “she’s starting to come around to it.”
On the left picture, you can see how Oliver looked before the grooming
He was certainly a gorgeous fluffy boy before, but not as avant-garde.
People on Twitter lost it

Cats need their hair for thermoregulation. I don't think this was a good idea.
We have to shave the fur from my cat in the summer. It's not as important as you think. Her fur is so long and thick she overheats in the summer and it's obvious she struggles. When we shave her she becomes much more lively and friendly (and looks like a lion lol). It's not like they're wild cats with no way to protect themselves from frostbite, especially in June... I just feel like this need to be said because this post is hilarious and y'all are worrying way to much -_-
I used to get mine shaved for the same reason. She loved it andtheywouldput a ruffled collar on her, which she loved and she hated collars !
Agreed. I have a tortie that has to get groomed too because her fur is so thick and long. She's so much happier with it short in the hotter months.
When we had a pair of longhairs, we'd take them for a shave every June just as the hot weather was starting. They loved it, they'd come back bouncing around and full of energy. If we didn't, they'd spend the whole summer lying on the concrete basement floor in our house, because we didn't have air conditioning.
What about hairless cats? And if your answer is that is from bad breeding practices then so are pretty much all dog and cat breeds
Hairless cats are less adaptable to their environment than most cats. They are more prone to suffering from temperature extremes.
I worked at a dog groomers that occasionally would take in long haired cats for shaving. They are usually done for several reasons. Cat's fur is matted, Cat has flea infestation, cat is shedding long fur everywhere (usually around springtime), or the cat spends most of it's time outdoors (in the south..kitties not only have to deal with 90+ degree temps in the summer, but high amounts of humidity.) We've shaved down a few cats in our time. But we would have offered a second shaving if the wife was infuriated about it.
Most likely this cat is kept indoors at room temp. It should be fine.
Thank you that's what I was going to say. What's wrong with people? There's a reason cat only groomers don't actually exist, they groom themselves.
They do exist, but generally for cars who are too old or weak to groom themselves, and/or have extremely long coats and need an extra shave.
Actually it can also be important for cats who don't groom themselves properly weather young cats that never picked it up, old cats that aren't grooming anymore or overweight cats that can't get everywhere. Cats naturally produce lots of oils it keeps them semi waterproof and their grooming is to help spread that oil so of the cat doesn't groom it can cause skin problems and shedding fur to get stuck so for an indoor cat that is not grooming it is actually important to their health our they can develop horrible skin infections. So no the reason cat only growers don't exist is more because people don't realize that and don't utilize it, cats are very uncooperative and often times the stress of grooming is dangerous if the cat is not sedated (which requires a vet), and most groomers are still allergic to cats can can't take grooming ONLY cats... Just so ya know
It is common for cats with long hair to have it all shaved off occasionally, it removes any knots or even dreadlocks.
This is true, but a long hair breed doesn't have a proper purpose and actually benefits from grooming. On the other hand there is also hairless cats, which were bred that way for humans and they definitely need more ways to stay warm than your average cat.
That was my first thought. Now they have to dress him up, so really not funny at all. This is a topic that generates a huge amount of controversy among pet owners, groomers, veterinarians, and other animal care workers etc. There a good reasons why it should not be done: insulation for the body, protecting them against sunburn and skin cancer, and there are better alternatives to shaving your pet. We have 4 cats, one of them has long hair and it keeps him also cool during hot summers and he knows when he needs shade, so it really isn’t necessary to shave them, just make sure there is extra water and a possibility to go in the shade. Grooming on the other hand is different, some cats need help because their fur gets so tangled.
Animal cruelty in sight, as you said, cats need their hair for thermoregulation... They hail from warm and arid climates...
This is awful, poor cat.
I don't like that this was done on purpose to poor Oliver as a prank.
Oliver probably could not care less -- he's a cat!
I would be p!ssed. It's a living creature not some sort of prop for a joke. Poor kitty.
This is a terrible thing to do. Shaving should only be done when the cats fur is very matted and can't be brushed. Cars have survived thousand of years in warm weather with their fur, doing something like this just for fun is cruel.
We shaved our long haired cat every summer just to help cool her down and she LOVED IT!!! She looked kinda funny, but we loved her and didn't care how she looked, we cared about her comfort. This is in no way cruel.
I agree ....selfish act as a prank...
Poor kitty.
Idiot owner. And I mean the man. He should have cut his own hair this way and go outside. ALso, not only a matter of looks, but cats, like Daria Z mentioned need for to regulate temperature. Some people have less intelligence than a friggin brickwall.
It's true, that's how cats regulate temperature, but in case you haven't noticed, domesticate cats living in a house don't struggle too much from freezing anymore these days. Why you gotta hate?? This isn't as harmful as you think, if at all
Maybe because I dislike abusing living creatures as a mean to prank someone. And also termoregulation doesn't go only for warming up but also for deheating, in case you didn't know.
Cats don't like being laughed at. And he will be!
It's not abuse. Clearly you've never owned a longhaired cat. I have and that summer shave was essential for their enjoyment of the hot weather.
It wasn't the shave, it was the style.

Haha funny you say that, cause I own two maincoons :) Clearly you jump into assumptions really fast.
Okay I see what you're trying to say, but this cat isn't suffering! Like I'm not unknowledgeable about this topic either haha, and you're way over thinking this!! The cat is not being abused. Pick your battles Alusair, this one isn't worth your time.
Yep, I can see that.
Alusair I have a lovely main coon, if he wasn't so relaxed I wouldn't be able to keep most of his knots at bay through daily brushing. But on several occasions he has needed to go to the vet to have knots clippers off, and once needed a trim during a summer heatwave so he didn't suffer. Funny how you also jumped into an assumption so fast.
i kinda hope the cat takes a good swipe, claws extended, at the dad's balls while he's sleeping.
If somebody did this to my cat as a 'joke' I would never speak to them again. :-(

Oh gosh... That's just... Sad. For you.
This "joke" reeks of sadism, towards the cat and especially towards the mom. The father shows absolutely no respect for his wife's feelings. I'd leave him and go live with the cat.

Oh ffs. It's a JOKE!!!! The hair will grow back in a couple weeks!!!
This was cruel. The poor cat had to endure all that cutting. And badly done at that.
I'd shave and Nair dad's head in a creative pattern while he slept...
Excellent idea!
I thought of that, too, but unlike a cat, he can shave his hair off in the am when he looks in the mirror.
Paint orindelible ink. Across the back of his head, "I'm an idiot!"
How is that in ANY WAY "tiger-like"? I'd be furious too. Granted, it's just fur and will grow back, but still. WTF, asshole? That's like taking a 3 yr. old for a perm - "Oh, calm down Karen, it'll grow back".
That does not come even close to looking like a tiger. He should had said a lions cut. Oliver looks like a accordion.
Some people do not deserve pets.
The cat actually looks really comfortable, he seems to be taking it just fine.
I totally agree, apparently this site now lumps cat haircuts as animal cruelty lol... I'm literally on my way to wildlife ecology and at least with big cats I understand this isn't serious in any way.
It's fine if that's what you wanted, but when you don't? I'd've been furious, too. Sure, it's funny to you; it's not YOUR cat!
I would have been so pissed! I’m with mom on this one!

Mom needs to learn how to take a joke!!
don't even understand why people cut their cats hair anyway... as long as you comb the fur when needed.
Bc it helps cool it them down. They love it. Our kitty we so happy to be shaved in the summer!! She was happy to get the long hair off and felt free. She would rub all over the floor and purr and knead...and was so affectionate. Loved when you rubbed her new short haired back!!
We couldn't groom our long-haired cat. He wouldn't allow it, and sedating him was out of the question. By summer, his coat was a mass of matted clumps - and yes we did try to comb them out, gently.
I was given an elderly cat to give her palliative care in her old age. She could not walk. .... The vet sedated her, and shaved her belly. She could walk then. But the entire process of going to the vet was traumatic. So I learned how to train her to allow me to shave her belly. ( It was very difficult for me to keep pushing her limits. )...... I feel sad for a cat that has to be taken to strangers .
edit: sorry, * traumatic for her to go in the car, go to strange people. etc.
Shave a cat, either the cat is sick or the owner is sick
Disgustingly cruel, the wee cat didn't just sit still for this to happen to him. Downright crue, owner should be reported and especially the 'groomer' , Certainly shouldn't be allowed to go near any animals.
I can see a divorce coming up if that was my cat I'd kill him, the husband, not the cat !!
Poor Oliver, hahaha! I would be pissed if my girl was look like that lol since is summer time I let it pass lol
I had to shave my Main Coon in the summer. He had the worst hair balls daily & was miserable. One summer hit and he started looking forward to his shave. Afterwords he felt & acted free. Lol I only shaved him via summer I loved his fluff. But I don't believe shaving a cat is bad. I wouldn't do it in the winter obviously. There's those hair less cats, and they make it through life. Plus I've seen worse things. People who neglect flea meds and the cat ends up with worms so its tossed outside & left there. Which happens a lot. So when people say its a bad thing for me to shave Valentine, I'm like.... Ok. Lol. Yeah, No. You don't know what your talking about. He was much more happy.
I had to shave my main coon in the summer only. Everything but head, legs & tail. He got too hot and puked the worst hair balls daily. He was miserable so I started shaving him. Got to the point every summer he actually looked forward to it & felt/ acted better. Now people saying shaving a cat is bad? I don't believe it. What about those natural hairless cats? Lol I wouldn't shave a cat in the winter I like them furry. There's worse things you can do to a cat.
The good thing about fur is it grows back. Someday Oliver will look the way he should.
What kind of sick bastards would do this to an animal? The 'groomer' lose his/her licence and never be allowed to practice ever, and the dad should lose even more.
The family could cut the hair in the same way as to make all the family members happy. And we will see as he will feel with that.
They could give a similar kind of hair cut to their dad and see how he feels with that. As he said, only for a joke, now with him.
"Stripes like a tiger" ?? No, dad clearly said please, PLEASE make this cat look as absurd as possible
I am not fond of it, but, hey, hair grows. And the cat may love it.
From the cat's point of view, this is probably a great haircut. He gets to stay cool in hot weather but still has a bit of fur. For those who are horrified at the idea of shaving a longhaired cat, it's a necessity sometimes. The two that I had used to suffer in summer time before we started doing that. Cats with very long thick wooly coats (I think they were part Persian) don't often exist in nature and where they do exist they don't live long enough to get too stiff and arthritic to groom themselves properly. Our two used to mat up even with daily grooming.
Aww!! Poor kitty is probably confused lol. I would never do this to my cat, it just doesn’t feel good to trick them this way. But I don’t think it’s cruel. The cat is fine. Probably just wonders why everyone keeps giggling and thinks they look stupid. Cute cat no matter what. The mom shouldn’t be so mean. That cat is cute, it shouldn’t make her want to puke!

How is the cat confused? I'm doubting she is admiring herself in the mirror.
If someone did this to my cat theyd get 👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊
Poor kity
Kitty*
Some of these photos make the cat look like he is an illuminated lantern....the white underfur looks lit from within. Maybe cat's inner soul is exposed???
Poor cat. He looks like he's debating whether to use knives or a gun to kill the guy.
Poor kitty!
Seriously... What. Happened.
I think he looks like a Dr Seuss character, lol. If Oliver is upset about it, he knows where Dads pillow is, I'm sure.
Shaving a cat isn't really beneficial, they're great at regulating temperature, which is also what their fur is for. That said, getting them groomed is really important in the first place, not just a summer shave and be done with it. Dogs on the other hand - it can really mess them up if they have double coats.
Poor baby, It's interesting that his fur is light grey but Oliver's face is darker. Still, give him a hug from me. That's what he really needs look at his stares at you. He's saying "Ma my fur will grow back and this is the last hair cut".
I feel bad for the poor cat, it was beautiful before
Maybe a stupid question, i have had cats around me my whole life, i volunteer in animal shelters with many cats, i like to think i know cats fairly well, SINCE WHEN DO WE TAKE CATS TO THE GROOMERS?????, stupid people.
Oliver looked beautiful before they shaved his hair. Why? Just why?
I’m actually surprised that they have their cat professionally groomed. Most cats won’t tolerate being at a groomer. Usually there are too many dogs, noises and/or commotion that freaks them out. We once needed to have one of our cats groomed professionally (he got into something and his coat was a mess and more than we could handle)—the poor guy was traumatized for days after. The groomers even mentioned that they try to avoid grooming cats since they wig out easily.
Poor cat, humans are sometimes stupid.
I don't think any of us can or should judge the situation. We don't know the family dynamic. Maybe they are all pranksters. It seems the kids thought it was funny. We all "torture" our pets. If a little girl paints the nails of her dog, is that "abuse?" What about a Christmas jacket? Snipping ears, or forcing to fight. THAT'S abuse.
I use a furminator. No trimmer needed. And it doesn't change their looks.
Fluffy cats need to be shaved in the summer, any groomer worth their salt knows this, that being said, I would demand a refund and look for a different groomer!
Why change groomers? They did the fur the way they were asked to do the cut. They also should not refund the money for the same reason. They might redo the cut for free as a courtesy, but don't have to. I've considered having my long-haired cats shaved for the summer but haven't done it because it's only really hot for a couple weeks a year here. I don't have air conditioning for the same reason.
As a groomer myself who has shaved all kinds of designs into the coats of both cats and also dogs, I have to wonder about the nonsensical appearance of this clip...the spacing isnt even and the ridges of hair are uneven and haphazzard...I'm wondering what this groomer was thinking, the whole clip looks like it was an afterthought and not theorized and planned out...after all...a family has to live with the grow out on this.
Looks like Accordian?
Does the cat care? No. Will it grow back? Yes. Would I be angry if my husband did this to one of our cats? Once upon a time, yes. Now? Amused but mildly annoyed and I would be taking the cat to the groomers ASAP to get it properly shaved down. Different groomer if the first one would not do it the next day. And the husband would never again be trusted taking the cats anywhere, which may have been his original intent.
Yeah, THAT LOOKS JUST LIKE A TIGER.
At least this look doesnt come from your 4yr old wrapping the cat with duct tape and then pulling it off. I think he looks adorable. Its just fur, it grows back.
Oliver needs to be picked up and snuggled.
A few rainbow color accents and Oliver could be mascot in a punk band. But, hey, it's done. Lighten up. The fur will grow back so soft and fresh.
Interesting. I never would have thought of that.
Adorable. That was a talented cat stylist.
That is HILARIOUS
He'll probably take the cat back tomorrow to get the rest of his fur shaved off. He just did it for a joke, lighten up everybody.
Yest most animals need their fur but that's hilarious, some of you really need to lighten up! 😂
Oh my gosh right?? Seriously fur grows back and this black cat probably will enjoy not overheating this summer now!!
Exactly!

Exactly!

I gotta love all the PETA members downvoting the "domestic indoor cats don't need their fur nearly as much so chill out it's just funny" comments.

Cats really don't deserve much better. They did Olly a favor!
