Sun is shining, birds are chirping, and the living is easy. We’d like to think of nature this way. But it moves in mysterious ways and it’s called Mother Nature for a reason.

You see, upon a closer look, things are hella odd and creepy out there. Think of it as a horror movie of its own league starring sci-fi-like creatures, unusual anomalies, bizarre plants and animals, and sightings that push you to the brink of saying "I’m out."

Bored Panda has compiled a spine-chilling fresh list for your next nightmare. Get ready for sweaty palms and don’t say I didn’t warn you. Before you are done and safely out of this whole ordeal, there’s part 1, part 2, and part 3 waiting one click away. No NOPEs allowed after this point.

Our planet is populated with both odd and amusing plants and animals. Some of them have been surrounded by myth and misunderstanding, and some we still know little about. David Attenborough’s series “Natural Curiosities” has revealed the remarkable evolutionary traits behind some of the most mystical wonders of the natural world.

Some of the quirky animals include flamingos, who survive in hot volcanic lakes by filtering out microscopic algae; salamanders that can regrow entire limbs; problem-solving crows that design intricate tools; and hippos, who secrete a vivid red mucus that acts as sunscreen.

In an interview with Radio Times, David Attenborough recounted the particularly peculiar case of a greenfly that’s nearly all female. “Inside they are already pregnant. And inside the baby that’s inside the mother there’s another one. So you’ve got three generations all in one animal.” As bizarre as it sounds, that’s a very common insect we don’t really think of much.

One tidbit of information... a relaxed bird foot is curled up, for most birds at least (the fingers of the relaxed human hand aren't completely extended, either, but slightly bent. It's just way more extreme with birds). A bird doesn't have to put any effort into gripping a branch with its feet and therefore doesn't fall off no matter how tired and exhausted. Effort would be REMOVING the feet from the branch. I have no idea what happened here - whether the bird was eaten alive or dead and the body ripped of its feet, or the (dead) body fell off for whatever sick reasons, or some prankster put feet of a dead bird onto a branch... but bird feet gripping when the bird itself can't give the input anymore is not, by itself, surprising.

I think it's just the way their talons work. The natural tension in the tendons keeps them gripping unless the bird exerts an effort to release its grasp. So it probably just died of some natural cause while perching on the branch. The body started to rot, and eventually the deteriorating ankles snapped from the weight, so the body fell and left the feet up there still clinging to the branch.

My thoughts also. Believe it or not death from natural causes, including old age, happens in the wild too. Not all animals die at the hands of humans or other predators.

I've seen this before. It's caused by electricity passing through the birds body. It happens a lot on power lines but has been seen on lightning struck trees

My guess is lightning strike. Killed the bird and caused muscle spasms, hence the locked feet and the carcass rotted and fell away because of the weight. Don't see scorch marks on the tree but they don't always happen.

As I wrote in an own comment, bird feet are usually clenched in their relaxed state, no muscle spasms required. Means they can relax and even sleep on a tree without falling off, and keep their feet neatly tucked away during flight without having to think about it.

He wanted to take the tree to build a nest. The tree was too heavy to lift off with but he didn't want to let go. The bird took off after all, just without his feet.

I doubt that this picture is authentic. More than likely, the perch here is a tree trunk, or upper growth. Note the bottom right, that it is pointing skyward. If it was a limb, how did the photographer climb up the tree to this horizontal perch?

The eagle family was trying to cut off a tree branch, so they made an eagle chain with grand pappy eagle at the head, his talons holding onto the branch. They flew off with his upper torso having not seen that his legs stayed behind. Rumor has it, they still flying northwards..

    Nature Is Scary As Hell

    Nature Is Scary As Hell

The Sandbox Tree also known as the "Dynamite Tree" grows exploding fruits. When fully mature, they explode with a loud bang and fling their hard, flattened seeds at speeds of up to 150 miles per hour and distances of over 60 feet. The shrapnel can seriously injure any person or animal in its path. As bad as this is, the exploding seed pods are only one of the ways that a sandbox tree can inflict harm.
The fruit of the sandbox tree is poisonous, causing vomiting, diarrhea and cramps if ingested. The tree sap is said to cause an angry red rash, and it can blind you if it gets in your eyes. It has been used to make poison darts.

It's waaaaaaaaay older than that, and basing its age off of a calendar based in religion is quite likely to not be scientifically accurate. Please, for the love of all that is correct, stop saying the Earth is younger than we can soundly prove it is
