The National Geographic has always been a showcase for the world's most evocative photography, and its prestigious annual photography contests never fail to attract the most talented professional photographers from around the globe.
The 2016 Travel Photographer Of The Year Competition is no exception, and as you can see from the selection of stunning pictures below, this year's judges have no easy task in choosing the best photos from these amazing entries.
The Grand Prize on offer is a 7-day Polar Bear Safari for two (including airfare) at Churchill Wild-Seal River Heritage Lodge in Manitoba, Canada. But the real prize of the photo contest is simply being named National Geographic's Travel Photographer of the Year. Sadly, in the Omo Valley of Ethiopia, these photos can be achieved daily as the local tribes charge you for photographing them and make themselves up quite outlandishly each day to grab the most tourist attention and thereby garner the most money.

5th Generation SF - now retired and living in a more affordable place. When visitors came, we always took them down Lombard. There are steeper, scarier streets - Filmore. The hills become routine; a stick shift gives you control; have fun. Go to Upper Market and Castro - that is where the lovely "painted ladies" are. SF is a jewel nestled against a Bay - temperate climate, views and lovely neighborhoods.
