Mom Gets Charged Extra $39.35 To Hold Her Baby After Giving Birth
Hospitals do everything in their power to provide the best conditions for a mother giving birth and it’s completely fine that they charge people for these services, but one facility went a step too far. A new mother received a $39.35 hospital bill for “Skin To Skin” service which is just a fancy term for holding your child.
“The nurse let me hold the baby on my wife’s neck/chest. Even borrowed my camera to take a few pictures for us. Everyone involved in the process was great, and we had a positive experience. We just got a chuckle out of seeing that on the bill,” the father said.

"completely fine that they charge people for these services"? I'm so happy for health insurance in Europe, I never experience any bill like that, everything is paid by state or my employer, this is crazy ...
totally!
It's important to read the whole sentence
They forgot to add "Congratulated the wife with the baby while smiling friendly: $21,50" They got a bargain in my opinion.
You forgot the "scream made by baby" surcharge...
I wonder if for this price you can hold only your own baby, or any one available at the hospital. Can I try them all for an extra $ ? :)
Yes. Yes, you can.
XD
I'm sorry, but America is fucked. Seriously, as a society it is just a pitiful excuse.
i'm glad in Canada we didn't received any bill like that
Same here in Argentina, non bill at all. Unless you want some comfort.
Fucking hell! If not for the insurance it would cost them $ 11,000 plus to deliver a baby?? U know what! FUCK YOUR DEMOCRACY and CAPITALISM! I was born in USSR FOR FREE and been very happy since!!!
Well, I grow up in the States from 1950 to 1970. I'm not surprised at all. This is a country where the money comes first, not humanity, that's all. Going to school there I learnt that USSR WAS THE DEVIL'S Deed! Now I've come to realise that the USA is no better with it's so many secret governmental organisations and real health plan for all. Money goes for WARS elsewhere.
And they call this "THE AMERICAN DREAM" ??? Why not "THE AMERICAN NIGHTMARE"???

Sorry about the above. Also, meant no real health plan. Here in Europe, anyone will be taken care with or without health insurance. Everybody gets treated the same way in our public hospitals. Move to Europe where crime rates are lower than in the USA, our food is better, the schools are great, and the cities are out of this world. I'm so happy to be back home. Don't worry I will not be visiting the states or go back to live. To scary!
Wanna know what I paid for childbirth? Nothing. Go Canada!!
No, no, no. Hell no. Now I'm angry. D:<
It's not "fine" that hospitals charge for anything.
Hmm...they've got to charge something or the doctors and nurses wouldn't get paid to do the hard jobs they do.
Only in the US. Everywhere else healthcare is free.
Funny, universal health care does in fact ensure health care professionals get paid while not bilking a new mother out of 10s of thousands.
"Skin to skin SERVICE"? I know hospitals where this is the default obligatory procedure.....
indeed, you need to do this
This is insanely selfish
Unbelievable and Why..??????????
Don't tell them it was a positive experience! Pleasant emotions cost extra.
this is a bit monstruous paying to be healed is a normal thing in USA and it's not completely illogical but this specific thing is really really just not right
She's been billed for 79 C-sections for $3106.28? 79??
'murica!
It's not a freakin' theme park!!! The hospital charged them. They should make it public which hospital did that. It is unethical!
Every hospital does. Some do funny breakdowns, some just put $000 w/o any explanation. Got a $1,200 bill for 15 mins of a doctor's attention.Told them I'll pay if they show itemized charged. They didn't do it. I didn't pay. Few bills later they gave up. Can't understand how the system works.
These charges are negotiable. Get on the phone, tell them you won't pay their Chargemaster rates, and get the whole thing down to 25%.
Congratulations on your newly born baby..
Glad mother & baby doing well...
I'm here from a t-shirt article
Not an extra charge, just a recording of what happened. If there was no skin to skin, the charge would have been added to the line item above.
Except its not an extra charge. Its just recording what happened. If there was no skin to skin, that charge would have been bundled with the line item above it. This is misleading reporting.
That hospital should be sued !!!
Angry now!!!
It's pure fraud!!!!!
lol...you people will be,ieve anything you see on the internet
Well...First of all, the picture is inappropriate. Makes You feel more empathy for mother. It was a C-section, the stomach is still open when they apply the "skin to skin" procedure :) She couldn't hold the baby with venous port(s) in her arms. There is the operation still going on after extracting the baby. There might be severe complications /e.g. bleeding. Don't know the whole story and how the system in US works, maybe the 40 bucks is the compensation for doctors/nurses that she might "hold" the baby in every case, even if there is something serious going on behind the sterile curtains. Just sayin'...Otherwise they are just mean and stupid, they should at least conclude it in Csecton costs and nobody will notice, it looks ridiculous separately.
That's not bad. Can't put a price tag on holding a baby.
Mmm don't they charge for the pro picture service and the oxigen
The family probably hired a professional photographer.
